My experience with this therapist ended in a way that I found unprofessional, abrupt, and emotionally unsettling.

During therapy, there were occasions when sessions were interrupted because she opened the door for deliveries, and there were also issues with lateness. When I raised these concerns, I did not feel they were taken seriously. I was particularly troubled by the response that she would likely be late again, rather than receiving reassurance that the issue would be addressed.

The therapy also changed from in-person sessions to online sessions because of her own circumstances. I did not feel this change was centred around what worked best for me as the client, and over time I felt that too much attention was being placed on her own needs rather than on maintaining a consistent and supportive therapeutic environment.

Following the conversation in which I challenged the lateness and interruptions, she informed me that she was ending therapy with me. From my perspective, the timing made the ending feel reactive and abrupt. I did not feel that the therapeutic relationship was brought to a close in a careful, supportive, or properly explained way.

I was later given the names of other therapists, which I initially understood to be referrals. It was subsequently clarified that these were not personalised recommendations based on knowledge of me or of the therapists’ suitability for my needs. They were simply practitioners within a professional network who were available for enquiries. I believe this should have been clearly described as signposting from the beginning, rather than presented in a way that could be understood as a genuine referral.

Based on my personal experience, I felt that concerns about punctuality and interruptions were dismissed, changes to the format of therapy were driven primarily by the therapist’s circumstances, the ending was handled poorly, and the support offered for finding a new therapist was less meaningful than it first appeared.
