I was very happy to find a reasonable online tax prep service this year. I filed extensions in April with no issues, and just finished both federal and state; paid $9.95 for the State and 0 for federal, even though I was just over the income limit. I had major headaches last year with TS and I paid $74.95! The year before, with another company, TA, it was bait and switch, and at the end, paid $124.95 (negotiated down from $149.95) because I had $500 on a Schedule C. None of these companies were great with the state form, I had to know that a pension and interest on Savings bonds weren't taxable and adjust it. The directions for e-filing were very clear here at OLT. Ideally, we should have a free e-filing from the IRS. I would definitely use them next year.

SCAM. I wanted the free edition. Near the end you click something and it adds the $7.95 charge for premium. You can then never change it back to free. The back button doesn't work. This is bait and switch, a 100% scam. Make sure you print before hitting the scam, so you can paper file.

As another user, Olivia, reported, when you file your return you are offered the option of filing for free or paying $7.75 for Premium. If you check "free", at the end of the process you are forced to pay $7.75 and you cannot go back and change it anywhere on their site. This is simply fraud.

Not clear during return prep that after entering bank account info for payment you aren't finished. On 21 April I logged into my bank account to find it hadn't paid. Went to OLT and went through another 6 or so pages and hope I finally got it filed. No message reminding me to file, no email asking if there was a problem. Just silence from OLT. I won't use them again. Now I'm going to be fined by IRS and state.

Filed my federal and my state for about 16 bucks.
Receiving a huge refund and saved about $150 by not using the 'big name' tax filing software.

The platform is easy enough to use. I have used it a few years now and never had any issues. The reason for my 3 star review is, I dislike the fact that although I chose the free version/state $9.95, I was charged for the federal/state version which was $15 ($7.95) for each. I tried multiple times to go back to the previous page and make sure the free version/state $9.95 option was selected, but I never received that page again. It kept skipping to the payment screen. That is super frustrating and concerning. Either it is an IT issue or someone implemented on purpose to not give the option to switch it before paying.

How can anybody give this company more than one star it doesn't answer the phone the taxes are done probably wrong I'm glad I found out it's a piece of crap do not go with this company it should be out of business their thieves they don't answer their phones they don't get you extensions it's a worthless pile of garbage and the government should not pay them a penny I'm so tired of crap companies 9 out of 10 are crap in America this crappy corporate military state

They don't have any option to go directly to forms. I can't find anywhere to designate a person to discuss my IL return w/Illinois Dept. of Revenue. When I emailed for help, the woman told me to go into my IL return & revisit it. I went through EVERY screen & there is no option to do so. I had the same issue w/federal, but they were able to direct me. It was way down at the bottom of one of the screens. There should be a way to search for forms or entry pages for every item on the return. The BS answer I got from their help will likely cause me to use something else next yr, even though I've used OLT for several yrs now. They also don't ask me for feedback ever.

I tried it last year when I qualified for both free federal and state tax return. This year, I no longer did but stuck with it due to its cheap state tax return filing fee. However, it only said I get about $800 in state tax refund. I redid my tax return with TaxAct and got about $900 instead.

I signed up, and then it asked me if I wanted to verify and I selected yes. It was supposed to text me a code. I never received it. I tried multiple times. So that tells me this is crap software and is just a recipe for a headache.

Just got my taxes done 1–18-23, I file a simple W2 and thats all. And this is my second year using OLT and I’ve had NO issues and will use them again. I’ve been fileing my own taxes for about 15 years and have used about every online tax service. OLT is now the cheapest and it’s easy.

I usually use a CPA to do our taxes, but this year I needed to take over my 94 y/o father-in-laws tax prep. His tax prep needs seemed to be fairly simple, so I volunteered to take it on.

While searching online for a software package to use, I found the IRS Fee File website. The IRS Free File site eventually led me to several online services; one of which was OnLine Taxes. I decided to give them a try.

Much to my surprise, the process was very organized, logical, easy to understand, efficient, and accurate. Also, I was able to go back to 2020 and complete both federal and state forms for the previous year that he failed to file.

As long as you have the patience and focus to work through the step-by-step process that OLT lays out, you should find the experience very user friendly.

I qualify for their free Federal filing requirements and have been using them for the past three years. I report capital gains in stocks and options so my tax return isn't exactly simple. Yet, I have found every form I need online.

Last week I had occasion to look for a rather odd form - Form 1116 for foreign tax credit. Although I harbored little hope that OLT would have it, I inquired by email. OLT responded to my query within hours. And lo and behold, they DO actually have the form online.

Not only do they have a comprehensive offering, they also respond promptly and professionally to free filers!

Highly recommended.
