We used Michael usher as a broker as first time buyers for our mortgage. They are a very efficient and friendly service and I would definitely recommend to any friends and family. The response were always timely and helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. We were able to do all communications over the phone / email which was handy for us.

This year we were faced with the situation where we were potentially being made homeless. Having been a renter for the last 18 years, we got the news that our landlord was selling the property. Unfortunately, he didn’t give us a lot of notice which meant that we were in panic stations for the whole duration of the summer of 2025. I’m 45 years old and I never thought that the option of owning a house would be something which would still be available to me. I was convinced that lenders would not consider me due to my age; plus our family situation is that I have a daughter who is ill and often bed ridden; and a wife that has health challenges of her own who is her registered carer. We spoke to a few mortgage advisor and the news was bleak; there was no way that we could afford to buy a house in the area that we lived in so we had to look further a field but even then our budget was very very limited. We tried other mortgage advisors; but found them unwilling to consider other options and other avenues of income. I eventually spoke to Michael Usher mortgage services on the phone in desperation, almost in tears to be honest and they were very helpful unjudgemental and listened and actually understood our situation and worked with us to give us the best outcome. We were able to secure a mortgage a good 30% higher over other mortgage advisers and we were able to get something in principle which provided us with the option to start looking for properties. Of course working is very expensive so we had to move further a field and we decided to settle for Shrewsbury. It is without doubt that if it wasn’t for Jo; our purchasing options would’ve been very, very limited. We were able to secure the house of our dreams way beyond our expectations. A four bedroom cottage with three bathrooms. The house needs some work, but that’s okay. We are now homeowners again haven’t been out of the housing ladder for nearly 20 years. I have nothing but gratitude for Jo and the whole company they are the most professional the nicest bunch of people you’ll ever meet. Be honest with them tell them your predicament don’t be proud. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We will continue to use Michael Usher moving forward when it comes to renewing our mortgage. We were able to secure a mainstream mortgage with NatWest at a very competitive rate. Again all thanks to Michael Usher. Cannot praise them enough. It’s very rare to find a company that performs so well and is so good to deal with these days.

Joanne was great with helping us through the entire process. We had some complications with our property out of the control of us or Joanne, but she went the extra mile to help get things resolved with the lenders and get us back on track. Couldn’t thank her and the team enough, and Joanne even went out of her way to contact us with important updates in her own personal time which we really appreciated

My mortgage application was not the easiest at all due to the situation I was in. Jo helped me every step of the way and secured me a mortgage, which I didn't think was a possibility at one point!
She has kept in touch and is now helping me with insurance. Super friendly team and always on hand for advice. Thank you 😊
