Ordered a barn kit that cost $24,000
Ordered a barn kit that cost $24,000, was short $1800 worth of pieces. Called Menards and told them about it. Their response was not their problem. They would not do anything to help the situation.
Most of the lumber was twisted, crooked, and looked like crap they just had left over in the yard.
No matter what they tell you they will…
No matter what they tell you they will do something different!
Take no responsibility.
And try to make it your fault
Menards 11% rebate is a joke
Menards 11% rebate is a joke! I spent more money on stamps mailing in my rebate form and receipts than I’ve got back from Menards. I’ve spent several thousands of dollars this year so far (2026) and have yet to get a dime back in rebates. I switched from Lowe’s to Menards just for rebates, now I’m going back to Lowe’s for future needs because they offer no rebates thus they won’t break promises. Not sure what happened to Menards 11% off but last year, rebates came back after 2 weeks from mail in date! Prices between lowes and menards are competitively the same. Menards forgot about loyal customers and are just a greedy corporation now! False advertising at its best!
We have been going to the Olathe, KS MEANRDS
We have been going to the Olathe, KS location since they opened. We had made it our new home improvement store, over HD which is only 1.4mi from our house. Menards is 7mi.
Everything was going fine, until we were charged for 2 bags of $14 grout. Brough my receipt in, and he said a manager would have to check the camera for this day and make sure I am NOT LYING! Yes because two gray haired seniors over 65, need to steal a $14 bag of grout! We have spent approx $10k at Menards in the last 2 years remodeling a house. Yet they can't take our word for a $14 bag of grout. The rebate deal has always been a hastle. I am willing to pay a little more and go back to HD, and not be hassled of situations like this! My time left on this planet is short, and I don't need to be hassled, speaked to rudely, and have to wait nearly 30 minutes to look us up on the register for the date and time of the sale, to prove positive that I am telling the truth. This is beyond anything I am willing to accept from a retailer. GOOD BYE MENARDS!
The company is a relic
I would say the reason they do not have a Google page spells out how out of touch the mgmt really is. Here is a list of issues from simply 2 purchases:
1. 2nd purchase was not in stock. They sold it to me, took my money, but didn't actually have it. It took over month and several calls to get the refund. In their mind I was going to wait for the stock to appear on their clock, not my job.
2. A receipt for a previous order did not arrive. I called in for a copy and they said I needed to appear in person with the card used at a kiosk in their store to obtain it.
Menards is a relic.
No Longer Allowed To Order Online (UPDATED)
If I could, I would rate at 0 (zero)!
In the past have ordered hundreds (over a thousand?) dollars worth of their model train items. Yes, they do sell O gauge and HO gauge model train items.
However, without warning, I was banned from ordering online. No reason given; just banned.
I've reached out to their customer NO-service and nothing; no responses; just crickets.
UPDATE (March 19, 2026):
Called the Williston ND store to place an order for an item. They were very helpful and got the order placed.
Shortly thereafter I received an e-mail from the Williston store general(?) manager stating the order was cancelled, but he re-orded the item.
I have received the item so I'm raising my vote from 0 stars to 4.
Menards is Not Recommendable
Menards is not recommendable. Read the reviews. Count the stars. Sorry... count the star. Singular.
I cannot fully express how much stress and worry this corporation has caused me and my family. Let me tell you a brief story.
We rented a truck from Menards. Our current fully owned truck has some transmission issues and broke down on a dirt road on the way home and we needed a quick way to tow it home without paying an arm and a leg. They took a deposit of $300 with a promise to refund $5o plus fees for milage and time and potential damages. We paid the deposit.
We drove it to our stranded truck, barely making it down the dirt road to it. The road was pretty muddy and the Menards trucks are NOT 4x4. They are rear wheel drive only. We attempted a tow using a tow rope (highly recommend a good tow rope, btw, they are mechanically gentle because they have a small bit of stretch and the rope material isn't able to directly damage any metallic surfaces. Just don't buy it from Menards). There was a hill that the Menards truck simply couldn't go up, whether towing anything or not, so we gave up and began driving it back. It got stuck a couple times but we were able to wiggle it out back-and-forth style. We got the truck back Menards the same day.
Upon delivering a muddier, but otherwise unbothered truck back to Menards we went in to finish the paperwork. They sent an employee out with a clipboard to examine the truck. We waited for an extended length of time. Around 10-15 minutes. It was pretty awkward, but none of the employees were directly unpleasant to deal with. Judging from other reviews, your milage on that point may vary ;)
The inspector came back with the clipboard and signed off on the transaction and we were reimbursed around $120 out of the $300. This was less that we hoped and expected, but we paid it with no complaints.
A full week later, we recieve a letter in the mail from Menards noting to us that they have since found damages on the truck and required that we pay back the full reimbursment. They did not specify the type of damage that appeared, nor did they tell us when they found it and how long they had it sitting in their public parking lot before they noticed it. Note that this is after the inspector signed off and the deal was done. We did not expect to recieve any further communication on the subject. After all, any damage that appeared after it was signed off as good and undamaged upon delivery and while it was in their possession cannot be attributed to us. However, against our better judgement, we decided to act in good faith and pay them back. Admittedly, their letter was worded very threateningly. However, this seemed to be the wrong choice.
We have now received several more letters from them demanding even more money, on the order of thousands of dollars. We have paid the rental fees out of the deposit, which included fees for minor damages on the rear bumper. Still not sure where exactly those could have possibly come from, but anyway... We also paid back the rest of the deposit when they requested it a week afterwards, which already felt fishy. And now, we are sent letters saying we promised to pay for any and all damages found (no we didn't) and are demanding over $1000 in unnoted and unexplained damages and demanding that we pay it all by a given deadline under threat of legal action. We just recieved the latest letter today.
I can only think that perhaps they're trying to weasel more money out of us through the misconstrued presence of some sort of verbal agreement said by usin passing while finilazing the transaction. Anyway yeah, very much not fun. I cannot recommend doing any sort of business with Menards. I should have read the reviews myself before allowing us to even consider renting anything from them. And no, for all the stress and worry they have caused with their repeated threats in their otherwise overly vague letters, we don't plan on giving them another cent for the rest of our foreseeable future. And this sentiment will be spread to everyone we know and to our children and their children and we will teach them to spread it to everyone they know as well until such time as it is made right.
They can make it right by apologizing for any stress and trouble they caused us and refunding the part of the deposit that was originally the reimbursment, adjusted for inflation, of course. My breath will not be held for the interim.
Treat people like shit and steal your money …
They screwed me out of $400 and treated me like shit. Bought a snowblower and the first time I used it, it died after 4 feet. Called mfg and they directed me to Menards. I purchased through the website and with a finance company so I didn’t have original receipt. They said without that there’s nothing they will do and the lady “helping” me kept heavily sighing and talking to me like she was in a hurry…..it’s 8:00 in the morning! I will NEVER do business with them again
Warranty issues
My whirlpool dryer after 10 months wouldn't heat...have 5 year protection program that I paid over 200 bucks for and now getting run around...why sell contracts if you don't plan to honor them
.
Pricey
There inventory for China and or other cheaply made merchandise exceeds e v en price gouging. For instance...40$ claw hammer, 20 $ cresent wrench, etal. And various cheaply made items.
I bought a large carport for $7000 at…
I bought a large carport for $7000 at Menards and less that 2 years the paint is peeling. It is suppose to have a 40 year warranty on paint. They told me I have to talk to a company Midwest Manufacturing that does the metal. They told me it's my fault, that it was stored wrong ( which is wrong). They never called ,all they do is mail letters, same as Menards, no personal contact. Now for the big scam, Midwest Manufacturing was started by John Menard, they have all kinds of products, doors ,decking ,metal etc. So Menards tells you they can't help because you have to go to the manufacture, meanwhile they are the manufacturer. pretty slick
This is the first and last time I will…
This is the first and last time I will ever leave a review.
Our experience with Menards was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. The product quality was unacceptable, and the customer service was even worse.
Due entirely to Menards’ incompetence, we lost $600. The doors themselves cost $1,700, yet despite that price, we received nothing but mistakes, delays, and disrespect. When my husband spoke with the general manager, Mr. Johnson, he demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, refused to take responsibility, and had the audacity to blame us for his own negligence instead of addressing the problem.
We placed a special order for doors. Twice, Menards delivered doors in the wrong size. The second delivery was beyond unacceptable — the doors were filthy, damaged, and appeared to be previously used. This is not a mistake; this is a complete failure of basic quality control.
Menards wasted our time, caused us financial loss, and then attempted to shift the blame onto the customer. If you value basic competence and accountability, stay away from Menards.
Paid deposit for pickup and we call…
Paid deposit for pickup and we call them up to cancel they said no refunds. They will try to keep you there . Talk to guy and he said you can cancel and get full refund. Now he saying he didn't say it. Please for God sake doing use they business.
Missing parts with no issue solving.
Bought a dining set from Menards and after almost having it put together found out I was missing parts. Menards response was their vendor discontinued the item so they could not help us with getting the parts from their vendor. (Walker Edison) After numerous emails and phone calls from Menards we have a dining set with two chairs instead of four. I would strongly recommend not to purchase Walker Edison from Menards or anywhere else. I am surprised Menards still carries W E products.
Great for Home Improvement Projects
This is a great store for home improvement projects, however, sometimes the products can be overpriced. They offer a great rebate program and have sales often.
Brian made our Menards experience…
Brian made our Menards experience wonderful! It was very cold out and I am pregnant with my elderly mother. He loaded and strapped our lumbar order down for us and was very kind to us.
Returns
We spend thousands at this scrappy store remodeling so we return stuff that didnt work figured putting it on store credit instead of a bunch of receipt lookups. We used $200 in store credit and $419 debit they will continue to put returns on store credit not some on original debit. They charged me twice for a item I used the store credit plus $169 and they went and put the $23 from being charged twice on store credit again. I think i will shop at Lowes from now on.
Big fan of Menards
I shop at Menards all the time for my work as a local contractor. My local Menards in eastern Indiana has great employees who are very helpful. Prices seem reasonable according to the market and I love catching a sale and stacking it on their 11% rebate.
The 11% rebate seems like a total scam
The 11% rebate seems like a total scam. I have filled out the forms correctly and sent them in on time, but have not heard back after two calls. I'm really disappointed in this company as I regularly shop there. It is just really disappointing.
