Hi Ransford, many thanks for the review, it's much appreciated! I'm pleased you've been able to find all the information you were after. Kind regards, Lewis
Great, intuitive tool
We were faced with choosing schools for three children across different age groups, and with different parts of the country in mind. This site, with its clickable map and wealth of information, was so helpful in visualising our task and in quickly accessing key facts and figures. The menu functions allowed us to rule certain kinds of school in and out, and have that reflected in the map, which was also a great feature. We now have the schools sorted (at last...), so thanks Locrating!

The website is great to understand the…
The website is great to understand the performances of the school, however the catchment area seems a bit out of sync.
For example Tyntesfield Primary and Park Road Academy schools in Altrincham, Manchester, show the street Woodcote Road, Altrincham, WA14 to be in catchment, however on the trafford website, this address is not included in the catchment areas for these schools.
However for Broadheath Primary school, I am finding the opposite.

Hi Hussain,
Thanks for your review. For Tyntesfield Primary and Park Road Academy schools in Altrincham we show the official last distance offered for the last two years taken from the Trafford Council website. We also show a history of where existing pupils live taken from the school census (what we call our catchment area indicators).
I can see that these schools have what are often called preferential or priority areas where applicants in these areas get priority over other applicants. On their site they call these areas their "catchment areas". Note that you don't have to live in these area to be offered a place, they are simply preferential areas, ensuring the school focuses primarily on local children.
Unfortunately the terminology is confusing as different schools use different wording for these areas; some say catchment area, others say preferential or priority area. But we do not show priority areas on Locrating. The work required to take these off school websites and plot them on the map is simply too enormous a task for us to undertake; we would need to manually check tens of thousands of websites. Hence we rely on showing last distance offered and where existing pupils live, which I would argue is more useful than the school's priority area anyway because these relate to actual offers made.
Hence when you compare the schools' catchment/priority/preferential areas from their websites with what we show (last distance offered and where existing pupils live) they are not going to match up as they are different things. But that does not mean that what we show is "out of sync". What we show comes from official sources and is accurate, but you do need to understand what it is that is being shown.
We always advise that users check school admissions policies very carefully for exactly this reason; so the fact you have found these priority areas is good as it means you can make an informed decision.
I hope that helps.
Kind regards,
Lewis
Home mover for better schools
Very uselful when you look for a new property.
By searching for a good school, it gives you majority of the properties around the school, and whether the property is within the catchment area.
Something you can do on your own, but for a small price you are paying locrating, it saves you so much more time.
The site also provides so much more information about the schools, summarised into easy to understand sections and charts to help you make one of your most important decision in your life.

I'm so glad I purchased monthly membership with Locrating when we relocated back to the UK after 5 years abroad. It proved invaluable with our home purchasing decisions, especially the school information which was really important to us and so easy to decipher using locrating. This is an excellent app which gives very clear concise information and it saved us hours of research. I paid month by month and once we didn't need the app any more was easy to cancel. Thank you Locrating!

A very good resource
This is a really excellent resource, which I came across by accident. I found myself going back to it again and again, to explore different aspects of the schools in which I was interested. With the really good maps of catchment areas, and the detailed information on the progression of children from primary schools to secondary, and then on to higher education, it is possible to build up a very useful picture of the schools in an area.
It is certainly the case that this site has saved us a great deal of time and has helped us to reach a much better decision.
I had a couple of questions which I asked the site owners about. Lewis replied very quickly, and put a great deal of work into detailed and very helpful replies - thank you!

Invaluable resource
During these strange Covid times where you can't visit schools, Locrating has been an invaluable resource for us whilst researching our move. I especially like the feature where you can see which secondary schools primary school children end up going to. Thank you!

Hi Kelvin, Thanks for your review. I'm sorry you are finding the site slow, it's not a complaint we've had before, but we are a UK based site and perhaps there is some latency when accessing it from Hong Kong; I can certainly look into this further. We're always open to suggestions regarding new data and features. I've sent you an email directly regarding adding security ratings and CDRC info to the site. Kind regards, Lewis

Hi Phoebe, I'm sorry you're having issues with the site; it does require a constant internet connection to work, as it is loading data from our servers. If your mobile internet drops for example, you will receive a "cannot connect to server" error message. I have sent you an email just now asking for more details on the issue you are seeing so I can look into it for you. Kind regards, Lewis
04/03/2021 - Unfortunately, I've had no response to my mail. Without knowing the actual error message, I cannot look into this further. My assumption is that the issue is down to dropped internet connections.

Amazing Service
Locrating provide an invaluable service and exceptional customer care. Recently we noticed that the school that we are interested in had a slightly different location to what we expected. Locrating looked into the problem for us immediately, explained what this meant and the implications and made the adjustment to the location on the same day!

Thanks for the review Giles, it's greatly appreciated! I'm really pleased you're finding the site useful and many thanks for letting us know about a school which was showing in the wrong place (for the benefit of readers of this review, the gov.uk site has the school in the wrong place, which is where we obtained the location from, but we have now moved the school to be in the correct location on our map). Kind regards, Lewis
Fantastic platform
Fantastic platform, the go-to place for all parents who are serious about finding the best school for their kids. Super quick and sincere responses from support, not only my question was fully-answered, the owner also shared her personal view (as a parent herself) which is very insightful (and full of personal touch). Much appreciated and keep doing the great job.

Since 2016
I discovered 'Locrating' in 2016 in stage when I was comparing secondary school performances and I was collecting information for my older son.
Locrating.com web site was then the best internet site for schools and now it is even better.
Now 2020 , I still use Locrating.com to collect information for Sixth Forms.
All the best for the team and keep improving your work !
