This was the single worst online learning experience we have ever had with any school. I had used K12 before for middle school (for another student) and it was good, unfortunately the high school leaves a lot to be desired. I very much agree with the other reviews in that your school is NOT friendly for the neurodivergent students. Which is interesting because my other student had a 504 and a plan at the middle school K12 and it was good. We have moved between states and I was recommended K12 by our doctor. My student is in the middle of diagnosing and we haven’t needed school assistance because he is high functioning, he is just very quiet. I do not think he needs a 504. We also had an amazing experience at Connections Academy in the state we lived previously and they worked with him in his quietness so he did not get overwhelmed. I think if we continued here he would need a 504 so the teachers would just know, not because he needs assistance in testing. We were not informed of the camera and microphones policy beforehand. Instead we were told it’s loosely based on the school and teacher, which was ok. However, on my students first day he was having trouble getting his camera on and he was called out by name in front of the class about it and the teacher referred to it as an altercation? He was visibly shaken. Another teacher said they would be reported and disciplined if they did not use their camera. Yet another teacher said they didn’t care. That is a huge gap in policy. The school should really stress that policy gap ahead of time because for a neurodivergent person that can be devastating when told to you in such a contradictory way on the first day. When you have ADHD (I also have it) you can also get fixated on disorganization and it can be overwhelming. That being said, the dashboard was not user friendly at all. Nothing was prepared on the first day. We had no class schedule. There was a feedback column full of classes he did not have with wrong dates. Luckily, the English teacher was organized and we were able to figure out that there are 3 different schedules and we were on a homeroom schedule? However, the homeroom teacher messed up his schedule and he had the homeroom teachers class twice. Instead of informing on what to do, the teacher told him to “bounce” on over to the other class? He had no idea how to do that. I had to pull the courses to see which class it was and there was no way to access it? Unfortunately, we are now stuck at the school because the other online school is at capacity and we have been waitlisted. I am not looking forward to the teaching experience because I am scared for my child.

Our experience with TNVA was, without question, the most disappointing educational experience our family has ever had.
My child has clear neurodivergent needs, yet instead of receiving understanding, support, or appropriate accommodations, we repeatedly encountered judgment, resistance, and what felt like punishment for behaviors directly related to her disability. Rather than partnering with us to help her succeed, staff often made us feel like we were being reprimanded simply for advocating for the services and support she needed.
What was most heartbreaking was watching my daughter become increasingly disengaged and isolated. Rather than helping rebuild her confidence, I felt that the response to her struggles only reinforced them. After advocating for her needs, it seemed she was treated differently, and she became even more withdrawn from class participation. As a parent, it was devastating to watch her lose confidence in herself and in school.
Because this is a virtual school, classes were recorded. Knowing those interactions were captured makes my experience even more troubling. In my view, some of the teacher's comments and responses toward students came across as dismissive, passive-aggressive, and, at times, humiliating. I was shocked that communication I perceived as belittling occurred in a recorded classroom setting. It left me wondering how students who are less able to advocate for themselves—or whose parents are unable to observe classroom interactions—are treated.
The classroom environment did not reflect the principles of equity, inclusion, or compassion that every child deserves. Instead of recognizing that children learn and behave differently, there seemed to be an expectation of rigid conformity. My experience left me with the impression that there was little understanding of ADHD or other forms of neurodivergence. Behaviors commonly associated with ADHD were often treated as disciplinary issues rather than opportunities for support, redirection, or accommodation.
Our interactions with the administration and special education department were equally disheartening. Rather than feeling supported through the special education process, we experienced repeated delays, excuses, and barriers when requesting evaluations and services. Communication frequently left us feeling dismissed instead of heard. At times, it seemed the message was that if a child could not fit into the school's inflexible expectations—including strict schedules and standardized behavioral expectations—then perhaps this simply was not the right school for her.
No parent should feel like an adversary for advocating for their child. We expected collaboration, guidance, and a genuine commitment to helping our daughter succeed. Instead, we often felt blamed, criticized, and left to navigate challenges on our own.
Our family has participated in virtual education since before COVID-19 and has experience with online public schools in multiple states. We have never encountered anything remotely comparable. Those schools demonstrated that virtual education can be flexible, supportive, and responsive to students with diverse learning needs. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at TNVA.
Looking back, enrolling my daughter at TNVA was one of the greatest setbacks to her education. Every child deserves educators who seek first to understand, who approach differences with empathy instead of judgment, and who view neurodivergent students as capable learners worthy of support—not as inconveniences. Sadly, that was not the experience our family had, and I cannot recommend TNVA to families whose children have ADHD, autism, or other special educational needs.

TNVA has been a blessing! Our kids had nothing but one set back after the other while being in traditional public schools. On top of curricular difficulties with little to no school support, our kids stayed sick constantly to the point of truancy even though it beyond any of our control. For the first time both of our kids made straight A's and had perfect attendance their first semester being at TNVA! The teachers and staff are phenomenal and do everything possible to help your child succeed with love and support! We couldn't be more happier with TNVA and we are continuing their education going forward with TNVA going forward! We highly recommend TNVA for their excellence, support, and staff!

K12 works for my grandson. He suffers severe separation anxiety. For being able to do school at home with me is a perfect solution. I like knowing exactly what is going on in his studies.

The flexible hours and wonderful teachers and all the hard work the teachers put into helping the kids if they are having trouble is some of the reasons we like TNVA.

The teachers are kind and helpful. TNVA treats each student with appreciation and respect. This school encourages and praises their students. Unlike, brick and mortar schools, TNVA understands they are educating young impressionable human beings, and they are not just a number.
