Excellent service and very professional. Amongst other things, at my last appointment John Rose picked up that I had a cataract developing and contacted my doctor straight away asking for a referral to the NHS eye clinic, giving the doctor helpful and necessary details. It was only three months between my appointment and the cataract operation. Quite remarkable - not least because of the assistance given by John Rose.

I begin with a little background, I developed spinal stenosis between L4/L5 in October 2025. This is a condition which puts pressure on the nerves serving both my legs. As a result I am in constant pain and suffer weakness in both legs. There is a surgical solution and I am on the waiting list for surgery, it seems unlikely that this will happen before January 2027.

It was in this condition that I attended a routine eye examination at John Rose Eye Care in Kingston upon Thames. Thankfully there was no change in my eyesight and my eyes were declared to be in good order, at least one blessing! John Rose Eye Care has a Photobiomodulation ‘bed’ and, in view of my chronic pain condition I was offered a complementary programme of 10 sessions in the “red bed” to help me to manage the condition. I very gratefully accepted the offer!

I started the programme with two sessions in the first week. Then followed with one session per week until all 10 had been used.

The bed is similar to a sun bed in structure (although I have never used one of them!) and emits rays of red light to the whole of the body. It is carefully sanitised and situated in an air conditioned private room. The sessions ran for 15 minutes. I have to say that I found it difficult to get into and out of the bed in view of my back condition, but I managed it without too much of a problem.

I was advised that it was not essential to close the bed completely, which helps to alleviate any claustrophobic feelings, although the eye mask completely filters all light, which also helps. I decided to listen to an audiobook during the sessions which made the time go past very quickly.

After the first three sessions I noticed a marked improvement in my pain control. In particular I found that the variability in the pain was lessened. Prior to this programme I found it impossible to know whether I would be suffering from unbearable pain or very little pain from hour to hour. With the benefit of the red bed this was reduced to a level of pain that did not fluctuate so much and was much easier to control using prescribed pain killers.

Other benefits included an improved sleep pattern and a slight improvement in general movement.

Overall it was a very positive experience, I could not expect the red light therapy to cure the condition but the benefit to my pain control and my improved sleep was invaluable. I am very grateful to John Rose for his generous offer of these therapy sessions and to his lovely staff for their care and attention to me when I attended the sessions.

I wanted to share my experience after completing 10 sessions of red light therapy (photobiomodulation). I’ve definitely noticed a difference, my skin feels smoother, looks more radiant, and I’ve even been getting compliments.

I train consistently, doing BodyPump with heavy weights from Sunday to Wednesday back-to-back, and again on Friday. Normally, by day three my body would feel quite sore, but having the red light therapy sessions in between has made a huge difference to my recovery. I genuinely feel like I have a new lease of life, I can do more and move with much greater ease.

I’m a big fan of the red light therapy. It’s been an excellent addition to my fitness routine and provides real relief and support.

I went to John Rose a few years ago and was very pleased with the consultation and the resulting glasses. For no particular reason I went somewhere else a couple of years ago and was disappointed with a lack of continuity, several different people taking the measurements and little sense of a joined up service. All is well now, difficult case with significant damage following a car accident years ago, all properly cared for in detail. Confidence restored.

The practice goes out of its way to stay up to date with the latest technology and the advice and assistance is first class.

Amazing experience, educational - I had no idea about eyes, 👀 brain and vision ; along with nutrition and so much more, scanned, imaged and AMD checked. So important to check your vision as it’s related to so many things. I have the best new office and varifocal glasses and prescription sunglasses 😎
