Sold my car without permission

Sold my car without permission

Email received last week from Jack Jnr confirming my vehicle was sold to one of their mechanics. I have no permission for the sale and reviewed no payment. I have the log book and spare key.

Also left this on Google reviews and it has been removed. I have appealed that decision.

Further to the below comment from Jack articulating that they did not sell a car without permission. The following is a cut and paste from his email:

‘In relation to your vehicle, my understanding is that a scrap value was agreed based on the condition and value of the car at the time, and the plan was for the vehicle to be scrapped. However, a mechanic offered to purchase the vehicle at that agreed scrap value and chose to repair it independently, entirely at their own cost and risk.’

No payment was given to me for scrap for this vehicle. I have received no money for my car. I was told it was scrapped because they could not find an engine. I was then contacted and asked for the spare key because they had sold it to one of their mechanics who had fixed it. I did not give permission for it to be sold to the mechanic so someone received money for my car. I still have the log book and the spare key. At the time I could not afford civil action.

I have been contacted in response to this review by Jack Junior on the email address provided in his response below. He confirmed via email that his company told me my vehicle had been scrapped and then sold it to one of their mechanics. I was offered £500 as a goodwill gesture. Ask yourself if you believe that to be fair in these circumstances. At the time I had a young family and could not afford a civil case.

I have waited a number of years to submit this review. I bought a car from here with a 5 year warranty. From the start it had an engine noise (rattling). I returned it 3 times to be fixed as it was under warranty. I then had a long trip and the engine failed. The warranty would not pay out stating that I’d driven it to destruction. I appealed stating I had returned it to the dealer to be fixed three times. I was informed an engine would be sourced for me to replace it and I would have to pay for the engine and repair by this dealer. Then informed that and engine couldn’t be found and the car would be scrapped. I was offered £500 off the price of another car (so would have to pay thousands) which I didn’t take for obvious reasons. I was given a courtesy car for some time until the decision to scrap was made.
Next thing I heard was a call from the dealer to ask for the spare key as an engine had been fitted and one of mechanics was driving it.
I articulated it that I believed it was scrapped and it belonged to me. I still have the log book and spare key as I refused to give it to them as had told me the car could not be repaired. It was not right that it had been repaired and kept by them. I never transferred the vehicleI and I haven’t been in a position to leave this review until now due to personal reasons.
I believe the reviews on here and that for the most part fair practice is adopted and they came highly recommended to me. This incident left me out of pocket at the time with a very young family, having to purchase another car.
Just ensure you push the warranty when there’s an issue with the car that you buy. The fault was never fixed and then I was blamed by the warranty company. What happened afterwards was not ok.

Amazing overall experience

Purchased a car from Adam at Jack Reid Cars. Saw the post on social media and contacted Adam who arranged for me to call for a test drive. From start to finish all the staff members couldnt be more friendly and helpful making the whole purchase experience easy and stress free. Highly recommend these guys if you are looking a new car.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID AT ALL COSTS , unless you're a trained professional mechanic. Bought a car here that was damage repair without telling me and claimed it was never in an accident prior to them receiving it (it obviously wasn't reported or on record but Jack Reid were responsible for physically checking the car to ensure it was fit for resale, which it WASN'T). So much stress and denying of responsibility that they missed it. Problems only started arising when the car when out of warranty so Jack Reid washed all hands of me. Full investigation with finance company for them to turn round and accuse me of damaging the car and having it repaired. No niceness or compassion from this company, they got my money and that's all they cared about. The investigator said the repair was a first class one and it would take a very trained eye to spot ,I suggest Jack Reid cars get better trained employees to check cars for resale and adopt a more compassionate approach with people. Still salty about the whole thing!
