Bamburgh Castle Inn, Seahouses. Very pleasant staff and decor with some sea views. Average to good main course served quickly and up to 9pm (which is good these days). But you lost your 5th star for a... Leggi di più

Major Concerns!
The Midland Morecambe. I booked a suite for 2 nights as my husband has life limiting illness so wanted to make it a special stay...where do I start? What would you expect in a suite? Luxury? Air con....bottled Water..Wine glasses...bath robes...slippers...a safe? NONE OF THESE. One of the sliding doors would not lock so without a safe we could not leave anything of value in the room. As the room was all glass fronted and side, the temperature was unbelievable. The bathroom had a huge circular bath with an overhead shower which took 2 members of staff to work out how to work it. The bath was plastic so stood taking a shower was unsafe as it was not solid, so my husband could not use it. The bathroom door did not close flush so privacy was a no no. However, my MAJOR concern was the balcony. It was huge but no part of it appeared safe so my husband could not go outside which was the whole point of booking this suite. This is a major health and safety concern. The suite should not be available until this has been made safe. The decking was literally like walking on sponge, unlevel and dangerous. The jacuzzi was obviously out of use and looked very run down and filthy. Inside.....dirty stained walls. Damaged furniture, very very basic, worn and tired. I instantly brought my concerns up with reception, they showed me the only available room which was not adequate so she told me the assistant manager would speak to me. Joel was very professional, kind and understanding. If it wasn't for him I would have packed up and gone home. Joel did not seem surprised with my concerns so obviously he is aware of the sad decline of a once beautiful hotel which we have visited many times over the years. Such a shame it is allowed to advertise how it used to be. The website really needs to be honest in it's description and photographs. It looks like a dilapidated building dirty and grey. Breakfast room was sad and a little embarrassing. The cups were stained as was the seating. I wish I could upload my photos which are totally different to what the Midland advertise. The Inn Collection which now own the hotel should be ashamed and need to address all the concerns pointed out by many customers esp on Trust pilot. I would not recommend The Midland, please do not waste your money as it will be a huge disappointment. We were offered a large refund but it did not make our stay any better. An iconic building no longer stands out. They can not ignore Major concerns especially relating to health and safety issues. I have tried to contact the Inn Collection directly but very difficult to navigate and as people have pointed out in other bad reviews, they do not bother to respond anyway! Disgraceful!
Booked one room, charged for TWO !!!
Booked one room - CHARGED FOR TWO !!
Kings Head hotel, Newton under Roseberry, Yorkshire.
We were a couple booked in for a one night stay and paid on arrival for our room (25th April 2025)
When checking out the next morning I was told there was a second room to pay for and my card was charged again.
I was surprised and objected to this charge but the hotel receptionist said they could not issue a refund.
I contacted Booking.com who were also unable to help.
A second duplicate room had apparently been charged to my card without my knowledge.
The hotel manager was rude and unhelpful.
The restaurant was also very poor - we won't be staying here again!!
Dog friendly hotel
Had a two day stay at the dog friendly Swan hotel Grasmere. The room was nice and clean. The staff were all fantastic. The food for both breakfast and dinner was excellent. Would stay again
Booked Swallow Falls for our 55th…
Booked Swallow Falls for our 55th wedding anniversary 4 week ago. Paid in advance. 3 days to our holiday, Inn Collection Group cancelled the booking due to “unforeseen circumstances”. Never forget our 55th Wedding Anniversary for the wrong reasons.
Interesting that Inn Collection Group do not respond to TrustPilot reviews.
The ullswater inn has recently reopened…
The ullswater inn has recently reopened and in a stunning location. The staff are run ragged and the service has gone downhill. You are approaching high season , get a grip of the staffing issues . I use this hotel all year round , not for long
The Stables (Whitby) and Seaton Lane Inn are our favourites!
I have stayed at a handfull of Inn Collection hotels during 2024. In the summer, I took advantage of their Walk-Inn deal, staying 2 nights at the Bassenthwaite Inn, where we received a warm welcome (myself, my husband and our greyhound) and a comfortable room on the ground floor overlooking their well kept gardens. The food was alright there (although I wasn't keen on the beef bun we ordered one night which was a slab of tough beef in a dry bun rather than the pulled brisket in gravy that most places I've been to offer when advertising hot beef buns).
The three of us also visited the Lindisfarne Inn for an overnight stay later in the year where our greyhound was treated like a superstar. The staff were really pleasant. The room here was in, what I would describe as, motel type accommodation, separate to the main bar/restaurant. We were on the ground floor. The room was spacious enough with a sofa, large bed and usual facilities. This room was not as opulent as other Inn Collection rooms but still comfortable. The food was tasty and a nice selection of drinks.
The Ripon Inn, although a lovely spacious building in its own grounds with HUGE rooms and nicely decorated for Christmas was let down greatly by the reception staff who simply decided to ignore me and served people who came in after me while I was waiting by reception. It was more of a dog tolerant hotel than a dog friendly hotel. Not all items advertised on the menu were available either. I was particularly upset about this place as it was a treat for my Mam's birthday and I was expecting the same experience ( or similar) to what I'd had in other Inn Collection hotels.
The Stables in Whitby, however, never failed to impress. On the outskirts of Whitby with a beautiful view, the room that my Aunt and I stayed in was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful and the food!...Oh my word!! I was so impressed with this place that I've booked again with my husband and dog.
And, one of our families favourites, the Seaton Lane Inn close to Seaham, County Durham. This one and The Stables actually each get a 5* from us. We've been on several occasions, the staff are always so lovely and the rooms nice and cosy and the food is tasty. I particularly love breakfasts here with the best tasting filter coffee, and such a relaxed atmosphere.
I look forward to returning to some of these hotels as well as trying out some new ones in the collection.
We recommend the £99 winter deal. It's great value for money.
Awful Company
I have stayed at various hotels run by this group and would advise only to use them if there is absolutely no alternative
1 Harrogate. We paid for a suite (silly me) and was given a room , while large, needed a good clean and gave an outstanding view of a….traffic jam outside the window. It was very noisy at night. It was a Sunday and so there seemed to be no-one in charge eg empty plates in the empty room next door were left untouched for hours. The quality of the food at breakfast was appalling so bad my wife refused to eat anything. I did and cold, congealed beans are not a good way to start the day. All the food was at best warm. Their car park is a very sick joke and I do not just mean the price.
2 Northallerton We booked in for two days and was allocated a small grotty dingy room right by the lift so was noisy all night.
3 Alnwick The hotel is of the ugly modern variety. When we arrived the staff were more interested in talking to the patrons in the bar than helping us check in. Again very noisy as next to A1 ( a thing they do not mention in the marketing).
4 York I booked to stay here as I needed to get an early train to Edinburgh the next day. Unfortunately, the day before LNER cancelled all trains north due to the arrival of Storm Éowain. I phoned the hotel and they refused to let me change my date of arrival. I asked the same of Ibis in Edinburgh and they changed the booking immediately with no problems.
While writing this sad tale I asked myself “If they are so bad, why do you keep going back?”. The only answer is hat I have fallen for their local inns by local local people nonsense. In reality they ate a relatively large hotel group who have no real interest in the quality of your stay and are completely inflexible in the application of their rules. I have told then of the various problems we encountered but they did not bother to reply. In addition I would say that their food is at best mediocre (Brakes ready meals?) and they don't cater for vegetarians or coeliacs.
I will not be booking with them again and neither should you
The Black Swan is appalling…
Just stayed at The Black Swan in Helmsley.
They asked for a review, and I note it has not been published.
1. Unclean room - had to change.
2. Food is terrible, better food at Wetherspoons
3. Not worth the money - £299 for a two night stay
4. Staff lovely but disorganised. Asked 4 times to order food even when we had finished...
THE STABLES WHITBY..

Do not book direct
Do not book direct
Do not book directly with the inn collection - they claim it’s the best price and a loyalty discount offered but this is not the case and by booking directly you lose all rights to cancel.
Poor customer service - ignored after first reply
Lindisfarne Inn
Stayed at the Linisfarne Inn for the third time. Stayed three nights. Food excellent, staff excellent, Rooms excellent.
My wife and i stayed at The Water…
My wife and i stayed at The Waterhead Inn in Ambleside, Lake District from 29thJuly until 2nd August 2024. While there my wifes car got a flat tyre no problem except her car does not come with a spare tyre, But a very nice Gentleman called Richard came to her rescue, i can not remember if he was the Manager or Deputy Manager but he blew up the tyre for her and gave her the address and instructions of a garage that does tyre repairs in Windermere, even offered to follow her to the garage but my wife is with the AA so they took the car, but all Richard would except was a cup of coffee now i call that going above and beyond his job title will definitely stay there again
Harrogate Inn recommended
Booked two nights in this hotel two weeks apart as a stop off travelling from the north of Scotland to the south of England. Booked it whilst it was a four star hotel but on the day I was there it was downgraded to a three star hotel.
Location is excellent, close to Harrogate town centre, parking is an issue if you arrive after 3pm. Lucky the first time & found a space (£10 overnight) but no spaces the second time but free parking is available up the street if you’re willing to walk.
Staff are great, helpful & polite, checking in can be done the day before to save time. We booked dog friendly rooms & got two comfy rooms with table, chair & workspace if required. Decent size bathroom with decent shower etc. You pay £15 extra for the dog he got a bowl, blanket & dog treats - shame the best before date of the biscuits was the month before but the thought counts.
Only gripes with the room is the external noise from heating / air con during the night. If you are a light sleeper you’ll need to request a room in another part of the hotel. Also, tea, coffee & snacks are available in the room but no water.
The dog friendly bar for meals, the decor looks fantastic, staff are helpful, menu varied, food delicious albeit a bit pricey.
Breakfast was included in the price & excellent, tasty, a large variety of food & morning staff polite & helpful.
Summarise, great location, great staff, great dining experience, only gripes, parking, noise outside the room & lack of water in room. Still recommend it.
