A great dining experience

Once you enter the grounds of Hoar Cross Hall, the view of the Hotel just takes your breath away.
My party were there for a Christmas dinner event and we were not disappointed in any way.
From the moment entering the hotel until leaving, we were made to feel like vip's.
Champagne on arrival in the Joynes suite and a very Christmasy feel in the suite.
The food was excellent, good portions and well presented and very very tasty.
The DJ kept everyone entertained until late.
We have to mention Christian who worked behind the bar for going above and beyond when we ordered espresso martini cocktails. There was a shortage of glasses and after messaging another bar, took it upon himself to obtain said cocktail glasses from the long gallery bar on the other side of the hotel. Thank you Christian and all the staff that made our evening very special indeed.

We will be back very soon.

Divine luxury

This is simply one of the best spar places I have ever been to. Everything in the public and private areas are just beautifully ornate and the facilities in the spar area are outstanding. I just felt at absolute peace here. I just wish we could have stayed longer. The back massage was divine. It is expensive but it is very much worth it compared to other spars with far less facilities. I cant wait for my next visit.

Serenity Spa Day

Went for a spa day with my sister, had a lovely day, would definitely go back again as the facilities were great! However, there are several things i would recommned they either change or for anyone else visiting, to be prepared for. Firstly, the food was a let down due to them changing the menu last minute, the beetroot and feta salad was just that, just a few bits of beetroot and feta in a bowl, nothing wow about it at all! We purposely booked for the menu advertised online. The older menu was far more suitable for the time of year and seemed to go with the expense of the venue far more. The drinks were lovely although overpriced, £16 for one drink is abit too much! The 60 minute back and head massage did not feel like 60 minutes at all as alot of talking and preparing was being done during that time. I had a 10 minute back massage and a 15 minute head massage where did the rest of the time go... i would however highly recommend their hairdresser Debbie, best hair dresser i have been to in years, 10 star review and my sisters nail technician was amazing too. So 2 out of the 3 things i was looking forward to the most were somewhat disappointing. Saying that i would go back again as it's a lovely place, the staff did go above and beyond and the atmosphere is perfect for escaping the madness of daily life.

One of the best spas that we have visited!

Me and my sister have just come back from a two day spa break and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was fabulous as was the service given ( Harry was very professional and had such a rapport with the customers )
The treatments were amazing as was the after care information. Everything we booked ran on time .
We had plenty to keep us chilled out although it was exceptionally busy we did get to use most thing's
Our only nit pick was the tv in the room that constantly buffed but we did not use it much .From entering the reception to leaving, we were treated very well and everyone was so helpful with any of our questions , thanks to Michael who had such a can do attitude.
We loved the spa terrace and the aromatherapy room. We will definitely return 👍⭐️

Ian is like the real life Jarvis from Iron Man

3.3?! bruh. Maybe a nesting place for all of the Karens to have a moan. Maybe the membership isn't the best, but the spa! You have to go.

The actual manor house is really cool and the grounds are impressive. Food was tasty, but if you’re not a 'fancy smidge of puree across your plate’ kinda person and more of a chicken nugget and chips person like my girlfriend, then it’s probably not for you.

Anywho, if you’re reading this I'm sure you’re probably bored and want me to cut to the chase, so:

Pros:

- I’d say the spa facilities were upper end. You can tell a lot of it has been freshly refurbed.
- Food slapped (was tasty).
- The team were incredibly friendly (make sure you’re served by Ian at the desk (the guy with the solid beard and long eyelashes).
- Rooms were unreal. Maybe I’m saying that because we got an upgrade and had a hot tub on the balcony lol.
- Amenities were top tier. They had a dyson hair dryer in the room for example.

Cons:

- Didn’t have chicken nuggets and chips on the fancy menu.
- The spa was kinda busier than expected. Maybe because of the members, but we went on a completely random Wednesday in November so can only imagine what it’s like on a Saturday. It’d be like sardines all sitting in the hot tub.
- There were parts of the spa that were closed on the day and we were only notified a couple of days before. If I’m spending 600 quid on an overnight spa stay and some of the facilities are closed for refurb, I’d expect that to be known in advance so I should have been told in advance. On top of that, if you’ve spent so much money and can’t use all of the facilities, it wouldn’t go a miss to get a free glass of wine or something at dinner as a gesture of good will, just incase THE only reason you travelled 2 hours for a spa trip was to sit on the swinging pods in the sanctum.
- There were a few things in the room that we wouldn’t have been happy with if we’d paid for that room. I think the room we were in is like 1200 a night and there were a few cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. The hot tubs lights didn’t work either.
- My partner expressed the desire to have a body length mirror so you can look at your outfit which I didn't think was a bad shout.

Summary:

Expensive, but worth it. Do it.

Special shout out to Ian. I’m fortunate enough to have been to some of the nicest hotels around the world and occasionally you come across someone who just has it. If you go somewhere like the four seasons, people are trained to the highest level. Everything is done for you, everyone smiles to point of their face breaking and everyone is incredibly polite, calling you sir or what have you. It’s nice but it’s not special. It’s just whats expected at these kinds of places.

I don’t even know exactly what it was, but Ian has just got IT. He has an incredible energy, is extremely likeable and just an all round legend. He reflects very well on your brand and he should be cherished. I think you can train people however you like, but some things cannot be ‘trained.’ Whatever that is, Ian has an abundance of it.

The wine man was also great crack and knew his stuff. He was talking to us about grapes, acidity and other interesting wine facts as I sat there and got slowly incinerated.

Membership disappointing Customer Service

My husband and I have been members at Hoar Cross Hall for a year and a half. A few days ago we received a letter saying our membership had now gone up from £149pm to £210pm!!!!!! Shocked is the word I will use on here to be polite. This is per person too there are no discounts for joint membership or husband wife membership which you get in mostly all establishments we have ever joined. We were going to add our daughter as she has turned 16 as a member before the increase but the increase totaled together would have paid for her membership give a bit. When we viewed the establishment we were told of all the wonderful things they were adding and all the areas they were doing up. Great we thought, that sounds lovely. The thing they didn't mention is that it would be members who would be fitting the bill for the renovations a year and a half down the line. Now my gripes of being a member, never a parking space having to park somewhere anywhere just to be able to use the Spa, staff sometimes hanging around talking will see you waiting at the counter but will continue their conversation. Salon, so expensive and can never get through to anyone if you phone to try and book an appointment. Henry's well that's at a snails pace, more than 15min wait to even get served if you are lucky and omg they take forever. Tried to get a gym program it took the girl four weeks and then it was just bits that looked like they had been printed off the internet. Food is ridiculously expensive and drinks. Even with members discount they really do squeeze you for every penny. Now I over looked these things as I did like the Spa, but the whole customer experience is lacking. I build departments from scratch for big companies and guide them on customer service excellence. This is how a company survives long term no matter how fancy you are!! Hoar Cross you are lacking in this department. Upon my husband and I both noting our disgust at the price increase, which during this economic climate is a huge mistake, we never received an apology or we are sorry you are leaving us or lets see if we can work something out for the inconvenience especially during the renovations. Not a thing. Even the confirmation email confirming our cancellation did they offer anything remotely apologetic. You may have beautiful looking facilities but your customer service is absolutely shocking and to increase membership my nearly 50% and counting a on waiting list to take the place of the people you lose is absolutely awful. Members are you staple and should be looked after not screwed over. Do better Hoar Cross Hall. You really need to up your game for looking after your clients.

To be honest I've given up ever having…

To be honest I've given up ever having a membership at this place.
Recently told can get a membership, completed paperwork. Advised I could pop down quickly to make payment (large payment) of JF and monthly. Advised couldn't have access until paperwork processed by head office (told Thursday) however it would be done within 24 hrs, head office would be in touch for me to make payment, it would be end of Friday latest. Heard nothing Friday so chased up. Was just advised 'head office ' will be in touch. Were they? No they were not.
You'd think the place didn't want to take my money or take on a member. Honestly.
Given up on trying to bother and won't be applying again.
Parents are members and are due for renewal and I will be advising them when they return from holiday as they were in two minds about renewing. Not impressed. Shame as place is gorgeous but the actual organisation and that side is poor.
Normally this would perhaps warrant a 2 star rating rather than a 1 but unfortunately I had a negative experience in March this year - also membership related (no response to queries about membership )so I've had no choice but to give the lowest rating sadly, it seems to be a pattern of behaviour rather than a one off you may just be annoyed by and forgive.

Hoar Cross Hall is so beautiful

Hoar cross Hall is so beautiful. The experiences are fantastic. But…be prepared for the rip off prices! We booked an evening package 7pm till 10pm which included the use of the spa and a meal, now that is just a main meal, if you want fries it’s £4 extra, desserts, extra. Don’t get me started on the price of the drinks! £21.00 for a double gin and tonic 😱 we booked our slot in the restaurant first to enable us to get plenty of time in the spa. It took 20 mins to receive our drinks followed by another 10 mins to get our food which we had pre ordered. paying the bill for 10 people really confused them as they had to knock off the desserts we thought were part of the package. So lost quite a bit of quality time in the spa. Don’t forget your flip flops like I did as the spa will quite happily sell you a nasty pair of grey ones for almost £7:00. Disappointed 😔

Not a friendly hotel manager on arrival

I went to Hoar cross hall for a girls break, which we have been a few times before and i have also worked in the spa many years ago myself, where we were used to very high standards. We were greeted by friendly receptionists and then a very unfriendly manager who i believe was called Jess. She made us all feel uncomfortable and deflated about our girly trip. However, we got through this and had an amazing time, lovely room, lovely treatments and lovely stay. UNTIL check out and she appeared again. Not to us but not very nice to the reception staff which once again made everyone waiting to check out very uncomfortable. Unfortunately i’ve had to give lower stars because of one person but i’m hoping reviews like this will make her see that she is lowering the standard of this beautiful place and will change her ways and be kinder to her staff.

Excellent facilities

We held a baby shower at the Hall and the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble . I also had a treatment in the Spa and wanted to say a big thankyou to my therapist for the day - Katie Dukanovic, who was very friendly and amazing at her job ! Would highly recommend the venue and facilities.

Great experience

My wife and I recently returned from a two night stay, a family gift for my wife’s 70th birthday. We had a wonderful time from start to finish; everything ran smoothly (as planned) from treatment times to dining times and friendly staff were always on hand to help. My treatments were outstanding - thank you Shannon and Eleanor and dining hall service was great - special thanks to Max (W). We made use of all the well presented facilities, not to mention the delicious food and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Thanks to you all

Really bad experience

Booked an overnight stay on the 19th of July. Overall looked lovely on arrival, no offer to help with bags and quite a walk from the car park up to the front desk, disabled access I would ring ahead as I saw someone in a wheelchair looking lost for quite some time until they showed her the way to go. The grounds are beautiful and overall design is breath taking. The inside spa itself was ok but very over crowded. The aqua room was half finished with a Jacuzzi closed and no warning of this or compensation. The tiles are all coming off the floor in the aqua room and it feels horrible under your feet. The first night we had a dinner at 9:30pm, began with serving us raw steak when ordering medium rare. Then waiting an hour for a coffee in the morning to be told they don’t actually sell the one they had already allowed us to pay for. Baring in mind during this time we are waiting for a coffee so we are unable to move around exploring the spa because we had ordered it to a table and were expecting it any minute considering it was two coffees. The young lad was the ONLY waiter on the terrace. Shocking considering it was a Saturday and lovely weather. The beds and chairs all had signs on warning not to put your towels or robes down and leave the bed unattended because it would be moved. Despite others reporting people doing this all day all over the spa it continued. Breakfast was scheduled for us at 10:30, we’re told by 10:40 it was closing, 10 minutes to eat is an absolute joke! Then we had lunch at 2:45 and arrived 5 minutes before, no warning of delays. Waited then 30 minutes and no one has bothered to even let us know what’s happening so we could enjoy the pool a bit longer. My partner had a treatment at 3:30 that he would now miss. He complained to the front desk and they moved his treatment to 5, we were leaving at 6 so not ideal and more of our paid for time waisted with no apology or compensation provided. Then seated at dinner by 3:30, had to wait another 20 minutes for some water. Our original waiter never even returned to us after telling us he would look after us for the evening. Everyone around us was being offered jugs of water and it felt very odd. The only positive was the young lad who served us when our waiter left us, the young lad that did look after us however even mentioned to someone he wasn’t sure how to take a bill and this suggested he was new, yet he was able to be kind. The whole place is full of teenage staff that don’t know true customer service. The manager Jessica was lovely and apologised at the time breifly however has not been in contact. I also told them about the issue with the showers in the spa changing rooms, the resolution I was provided was to turn on all the showers. Not very sustainable if you ask me and seems so daft. Spent a lot of money for cold showers that need all of them running for access warm water seems very strange. I think going during the week if you have to go would be the best option but I’m not sure it would change the service and avoid hot days as there is no air con in the rooms and only one small fan provided. Overall not great and we left on Saturday very stressed out. We have not had a call or email to an acknowledge us, not had an offer of compensation for our time lost waiting around and sadly we’ve not even received a formal apology which costs someone nothing!

Great Spa Day

We had a brilliant Spa Day today , made so much better by the Spa Deck which is not officially open, but being open today for a taster day to visitors .

This Deck is superb , there are ongoing works still going on and we could see this us going to be impressive , but this did not interfere with our time spent up there.
The jacuzzi’s are great , as is the sauna and the bar staff are attentive . Great loungers up there and the area around has plenty of chairs and loungers to lie on.

We were impressed today how often the water in all pools / jacuzzi are checked.

We had a fabulous 3 course lunch

We had both booked in for a late treatment booking of a 45 min facial , my therapist PAULINE collected me a couple of mins before my due time , showed me to the therapy room and made me feel very comfortable. I had my full treatment and it was fabulous for me - thank you Pauline from the lady from WB !!!

We also have to thank HARRIET , who sorted out a problem for us very quickly & professionally,

There are upgrading works going on in and around the spa area, but nothing that interfered with us having a great day

Would we go again ? Yes of course we would !

If you are anticipating luxury - think again...

This hotel does not deserve 3 stars BUT if I am reading reviews - I tend to seek out 3 star reviews...
What a waste of such a wonderful building and grounds - and our money! Our son was getting married in Hanbury Wedding Barns - so we booked a beautiful, luxurious getaway close to the venue - or so we thought!!!

PROS:
Hotel appearance FABULOUS!
Hotel Grounds FABULOUS!
Food - Lunch and Evening meals Very Good!
Food - Breakfast STANDARD
Staff - VERY pleasant
Welcome glass of prosecco

CONS:
1. EXTENSIVE renovations - VERY NOISY
We were not informed about this - at anytime during our booking. We were informed that we may have a disturbed night's sleep caused by noise from the function room. But no-one mentioned the onsite building renovation and noise!

2. POOR levels of cleanliness and maintenance in Rooms and Suites. Yes we sampled both during our short and unpleasant stay.

3. No assistance with baggage to rooms / car etc.

4. PURELY PERSONAL - I do not appreciate eating my meals surrounded by people in bathrobes (especially breakfast). Luxury Spas often provide guests with designated dining and bar facilities to use when robed, and don't foist them on other paying guests. We actually decided not to eat our prepaid lunch in the Ballroom on the second day - because of this.

6. The poor state of our rooms, meant I was reticent to use the Spa Facilities!

Our FIRST room - overlooked the construction site. I took a video from our open window to evidence noise level (unfortunately I am unable to upload videos / photos to this site - but I have them - and I provided HcH with them during my stay). Temperatures were high, and as there was no Aircon, windows NEEDED to be open. I asked my husband to visit Reception and request a move - he was reluctant because he was under the impression that the workmen would finish shortly after 5:00 pm and not return for the weekend! How wrong he was! Reception acknowledged that the noise level was too high and moved us.

ROOM 2! - Further away from construction work and came with its own outside patio / balcony dining area. The room was SPLATTERED in stains - including the headboard / lampshade / cushions / bathroom tiles and mirror. The divan bed had a hole in it / bathroom tiles were cracked / shower screen broken / radiator broken! TOILET SEAT STAINED!!!!!!! Outside patio was covered in weeds / grime and dirt. I showed photographs to Mia Dobbie (Manager) she was very pleasant, shocked and apologetic (as was I - for some reason - because I am from Ireland - we feel the need to apologise about everything). I kept telling her that I was sooo sorry about complaining!!!! LOL! Mia apologised and offered to help us move to Room number 3. She also removed our late check out fee of £20 and 10% of RR due to issues raised (in total £53.75 was removed from our check-out bill leaving a remaining £125 to be paid by us on departure).

Room 3! The UNSWEET SUITE! After travelling all day - and not able to even shower before our evening meal - I hadn't the strength to address the issues thrown up by our third room. It was quieter than the other two. But as my photos show - dirt / dust / cobwebs abounded! There was insufficient lighting / curtains hanging off the rail and general poor levels of maintenance observed throughout.

Our youngest Son - joined us for the evening meal 28th June 2024. He had decided to travel over with us and stay nearby in the GOLDEN CUP. Over the evening meal - we laughed and discussed our different accommodation experiences! The Golden Cup provided Jac with a complimentary beer and fed him (either chicken and chips or burger and chips). The food was not included in his package which was Bed & Breakfast only - they just wanted him to enjoy his experience. According to Jac (who helped us move from Room 2 to Room 3) his room was bigger, cleaner and much nicer. Jac paid £80 per night as opposed to our almost £500 per night!

AFTER our visit I received a Guest Survey to complete. I completed it with diligence - and explained that I had provided and kept photos regarding all issues raised. The survey asked for ways in which HcHl could improve their services / standards etc. I wrote in each of those boxes that I did have ideas in which improvements could be made and that IF THEY GENUINELY WANTED TO KNOW how improvements could be made and if they were GENUINELY INTERESTED in my feedback. To contact me directly. AH well... as you can imagine they were not genuinely interested. I received a generic, regrettable response. So I am now uploading this to inform other guests, who are looking for a genuinely high calibre experience from being disappointed. What a waste of such a wonderful building and grounds! Please HcH invest in your staff and enable them to raise the standards you have abandoned. I await your disingenuous, generic response with disappointment.

Food poisoning- twilight spa experience

So I went to the spa for my mothers birthday on may 16th and the spa was nice and we really enjoyed the facilities available however one of the Jacuzzis wasn't working.

We chose twilight spa experience so we had dinner too and I ordered the salmon meal. I'm not sure what the exact name was. However, upon receiving the food you could tell the food had been heated up in the microwave as it was lukewarm. Also the portions were tiny, I don't eat much but it was only a small fillet of salmon and some little garnish vegetables. So I finished my food and went back to the spa then left as the place was closing.

The next day I wake up with horrible symptoms of food poisoning. I had diarrhoea, nausea, stomach aches and was light headed. I got food poisoning from the salmon. I contacted the support team the same day (17th of may) and they said they would look into it and that it would take 2-4 weeks. It is now July the 5th.

I did not want to write a bad review as I never write bad reviews but the fact that I attempted to resolve the issue without writing a negative review and I've been ignored is ridiculous. I am writing this review to warn people that the food isn't safe and that if you do get food poisoning, they will ignore you. The support team is useless.

It's sad to see that such a nice hotel & spa have such terrible food safety. Reheating salmon in the microwave is unsafe and I had to face the consequences of that. Furthermore, l had to miss my cousins birthday (may 17th).
