It was easy to pick up and drop off the car. II

Easy and quick. I came into town that day for a funeral and was able to get to my rental car and return it without any issues that could’ve interfered with my plans.

Car return was confusing. I ended up leaving it in the line. Wasn't sure it that was the process, and was uneasy just leaving it there it without a formal person checking on it. It appeared that only one person was checking in and moving the cars. Also, staff wasn't sure of what the $200 deposit was for.

I reserved a full-size car, but when I arrived, they had a Kia Niro assigned to me. I don’t consider that to be in the same class as a full-size car, but unfortunately, they weren’t able to help me with the issue.

Then I got to the vehicle and discovered that it required an actual key to start. That was inconvenient, especially since I’m accustomed to keyless entry and push-button start. I also found it frustrating having to take the key fob out of my pocket or bag every time I approached the car just to unlock the door. With keyless entry, I’m used to simply grabbing the door handle and getting in.

The biggest issue, however, was the condition of the windshield wipers. When it started raining while I was driving, the wipers barely cleared the windshield and instead smeared the water across it, making it difficult to see. For safety reasons, I stopped and purchased new wiper blades, assuming I would be reimbursed.

Unfortunately, upon returning the vehicle and explaining that I had bought new wiper blades, the attendant at Hertz told me I should have called roadside assistance to have the wipers replaced or driven to the nearest Hertz location. They would not reimburse me. Really? The wipers should have been checked before the vehicle was rented out. A quick swipe after washing the car would have immediately shown that they were not working properly.

Overall, this was a very disappointing rental experience. The vehicle provided was not what I reserved, and more importantly, it was not properly prepared for safe driving in the rain.

The car had a problem releasing the parking brake. Couldn't reach anyone at the rental location, but did get through to somone through the automated system. Rep was helpful & said it was still safe to drive. I called Hertz and asked about keeping the car as I thought I might need the car another day or two but wasn't sure. The rep said I could, did I wan't to pay it now? I said I would. She didn't inform me that I would not get a refund if I didn't keep it the the extra two days. I ended up not needing it for the extra two days. I called Hertz and explained the extension and asked if I would get a refund of the two days if I returned the car early. The rep said I would. I caled back a second time to make sure I received accurate information. The second rep said the same, that I would get a refund. I returned the vehicle and when the rep handed me the receipt I asked if the refund was reflected on the receipt or if that would come later. The rep said I don't get a refund. I said I called and verified that I would receive the refund. The rep said no. I said I will keep the car if I have to pay for it. The rep said he already closed it out. So I do not plan on using Hertz anymore.

The pickup was easy and quick even though my arrival was earlier than planned and prior to their offical "opening" time. Thanks!
