When at my placement the experience was amazing, all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I was made to feel very welcome by everyone there and I had an incredible experience.
I had dome issues with the outward and returning journeys, however, and I felt more support with travelling issues would have been useful as I had never travelled solo before.
Sending a heartfelt thank you to the incredible Goeco team! 🙏 Had an amazing time in Ischia, especially with the dolphins and fantastic activities. Made some wonderful new friends, and the group leaders were simply awesome! 🐬💫 Cherishing the memories and looking forward to the next adventure with Goeco. Can't wait! Nel Ord😊🌏
My experience volunteering abroad was something I will never forget and I’m incredibly grateful to the staff at goeco for making it possible. It was a super smooth process to sign up and they were super nice if I ever had any questions. My two weeks at the rescue center itself was super eye opening and I learned so much about animals and our environment, not to mention the amount of friends I made who I still keep in contact with. All in all I highly recommend everyone try this type of experience at some point and I’m actually planning on doing this again with goeco next summer. Thank you for everything!!!!
The Go Eco website is great because it lists all the information you need for each program such as the basic requirements, living situation, program schedule, and most importantly, the prices. I applied to the Zanzibar Teaching assistant program on a Friday and by the following Tuesday I had already spoken to a Go Eco coordinator. Go Eco is very quick to respond which is one of the things that made my trip so much easier. They are good at communicating with the volunteers and the program coordinators. Overall, my experience with Go Eco and the Zanzibar Teaching Assistant Program was amazing and next time I volunteer abroad, I will definitely go through Go Eco again.
Overall I had a wonderful experience at the dog care program in Sri Lanka and would love to go back to volunteer again. It’s a very special and unique facility. I was sad to leave.
Go Eco was very organized and helpful in getting me signed up for and answered my questions in a reasonable amount of time.
The local team in Sri Lanka were very helpful and friendly. The food was good. The transport was good. Communication from the program manager was good. The activities were great. I wasn’t able to join the weekend safari because the night before I ended up with intestinal issues, but I heard it was great and the pics looked amazing. The bike ride and yoga were really nice.
Here’s where I had an issue… To preface this, the local team at the Aasha house made sure I was taken care of the following day, but my first night was terrifying. I stayed at Summer Gardens hotel on the beach. My ceiling fan wiring caught fire while I was asleep and was thankfully woken up by the popping noises coming from the sparks. I wasn’t sure what was happening at first but once I started smelling smoke I went down to the front desk, and they immediately pulled the wiring out and assured me they would take care of it in the morning. Not only that there was a gigantic spider (the size of my palm) in my bathroom because the windows don’t close in the bathroom… I was moved to a room on the top floor and it was 100% better. My view was stunning, the AC was great, and the food at the hotel was good. In general just be aware that it’s a 3rd world country the infrastructure is quite rudimentary. If there is a building code I don’t believe there’s any enforcement of it.
In the end, I was quite happy and thankful I requested private accommodations and didn’t stay at the Aasha house because the fans, and water in the bathrooms/showers were constantly breaking down and requiring to be fixed. Every day they had issues multiple times a day. I felt so bad for them. Most of the people said they couldn’t sleep at night because it was so hot and would have to pay extra for the AC to be turned on. I understand the younger age group doesn’t have extra money for some things but I definitely recommend for the ones that can afford it to either splurge for the AC, or pay the extra for the private accommodations.
I think a warning should he given to all volunteers about eating the food and drinking the water. Everyone I knew (including me) ended up having intestinal issues to some degree and 3 of the girls who arrived the same week as me ended up in the hospital for 3-5 days. They were with the Wayers group. It’s a common issue.
Tips for packing:
-Take clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting destroyed.
-Take some laundry detergent for hand washing your stinky clothes.
-Take stomach medicine for food/water born illnesses.
-Specifically take a pair of long socks for the weekend safari trek to the waterfall. The leaches cling on to the low vegetation and will grab on to your ankles/shoes, so your legs need to be completely covered.
For the dog rescue program:
There really isn’t structure or guidance at the rescue with what we are supposed to be doing each day so I relied on Nanda (the older gentleman) to keep me busy. He was very helpful and kind.
Not only did GoEco allow me to pick the volunteer program that's right for me from a large variety of options, they also made the trip hassle free. Throughout the whole experience (since before my departure and all through my stay) I felt completely taken care of and that they were on top on everything. Going alone to Africa for the first time can be intimidating, but with them I felt calm.
The staffs of GoEco give a timely response and detailed information that helps you to plan and smooth your trip. Joining the Sado program give me a chance to know more about the culture, nature and people living in Japan. It’s great experience other than just sightseeing in main city.
Grateful to GoEco for connecting me with the Zimbabwe Wildlife Orphanage at Chipangali. It was very well run, and an experience of a lifetime to be up close and helping to care for all the various animals.
Mikayla and the Wilson family were warm, welcoming, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Much respect, admiration and gratitude for the legacy they are leaving for the community, staff, and volunteers; truly life changing!
I was extremely pleased with how smooth things went through GoEco. Living in Zimbabwe for a month is no feat but they made it extremely easy.
An absolutely incredible experience perfectly organized by go eco
Will go back !
Loved the Galapagos programm. However, I feel like GoEco could have given me clearer pre-departure information. For example, I would have loved to know that the teaching would only be 2 mornings a week and that the host house only hosts 4 people maximum, so most people are with a host family. Neither are bad things, just information I would have liked to know ahead of the trip
Taking to whole family to Indonesia for a sea turtle volunteer project was daunting but GoEco made it as smooth, pleasurable and as rewarding as possible. Would recommend to any parents who want their kids to have a different kind of holiday, to see the world, to give back and be inspired by all the other young international volunteers they encounter.
While at chipangali I made incredible memories that I will never forget as I learned more about the animals there. Goeco made sure I would have no bumps in the road going, leaving, and my stay there. Being a minor traveling to a far country alone was originally nerve racking but Goeco made sure I was safe.
The best two weeks of my life- I made so many unforgettable memories and friends along with learning a lot about the animals and culture. GoEco provided me with all the needed information prior to my trip, helping me feel comfortable enough to travel alone. I would highly recommend this specific program as the staff are extremely understanding and kind, providing you with an amazing stay filled with a balance of work and fun.
I went to Chipangali and everything was perfect. I am 16 and was scared to travel so far from home, but go eco and the Chipangali staff made sure everything was clear :)
Had an amazing & unforgettable experience in Guatemala. Prior to the trip, GoEco was in good communication and flexible as we planned the trip. Great for all of their help, as well as all the amazing people met and relationships made along the way.
My sister and I had an amazing time along the elephants, wildlife, and amazing volunteers in Thailand. The work was challenging and rewarding. The GoEco team there was so accommodating with our allergy needs, and welcomed people from all over the world to their family, making us feel at home. The staff educated us on the animal’s stories, enabling us to understand and help the beautiful elephants and other wildlife more than we ever expected. We are so grateful for the experiences we had with GoEco and look forward to a possible new adventure with them in the future!
After a month at the big 5 wildlife reserve I can genuinely say that this was one of the best experiences ever. The work you do as a volunteer really makes an impact on the wildlife in the area, it is so fun and you get to see so many amazing wild animals. The staff at this program are extremely passionate, they help with anything you need and really make you feel at home. The accommodation is great and there is even a pool for volunteers to use. Booking through GoEco made it feel really safe and easy, and the staff was happy to answer all questions I had before departure.
The people in charge of the program was beyond helpful, engaged and their love for nature and animals were contagious. It was a true pleassure to be surrounded by those wonderful people. The experience I had was indiscribable.
This was the best experience of my life. I made lifelong friends, was able to volunteer and help in a community of people that needed it, and did things that I never thought that I would be able to do. I’m so excited and honored for the opportunity to be able to go to assist in Sri Lanka and I cannot wait to go back! None of this would’ve been possible without this company and I’m truly blessed and honored that I was able to do this. It seems so surreal that I just got back a couple of days ago and life resumes as normal but my eyes are now open to more of the world, culture, and life.
