Only Delivers On the Street!

This company has a nice selection of treadmills. I was excited to find a manual one with handlebars in just the right place that will let me walk up an incline backwards. That idea was recommended by the Knees Over Toes Guy on YouTube. I needed it to strengthen the back of my right leg that was weakened by a stroke. Considerable progress was made in PT for a few weeks but, at 72, I walk like a peg legged pirate with a hiking stick. I am sure I can improve more because I already did some by walking backwards in the driveway. It's hard with the stick though. So bravo on the equipment. What's not so great is delivery.

They had a limited time special on it but what I didn't know is that they do curbside drop-off only. Their shopping cart page let me mark the dot by one of several options. I picked the free one. I never heard of R&L before but hey... free works. The delivery company called several days ahead and said the truck would come September 24th. Cool. I waited on the porch for it expecting that it would be brought up to the den on the first floor. I knew it was not happening when I saw that there was only one guy coming out of the truck.

The guy used an electronic elevator to enter the back of the delivery truck. Then he used an electronic hand truck to move the massive box. He said he was going to drop it on the curb. It was my responsibility to figure out how to bring it into the house. Maybe it was the sight of me hobbling with the hiking stick that gave him the idea to move the huge box further up the driveway. And there it sat in the rain all night. Get RXd must have anticipated that their deliveries would spend nights in the rain because they did have it wrapped in plastic. It was also strapped to a hefty wooden pallet with a serious hunk of metal which I am certain discouraged people from walking away with it. Personally, I couldn't budge the thing. All I could do was write to both Get RXd and R&L Delivery.

R&L got back to me that evening with a message headlined "We care." That in itself was comforting. They let me know that the local office has my message and would see what can be done. I replied that the box needs to be brought up stairs. I knew that a piano and a refrigerator were delivered up the stairs so surely a treadmill could be, too. No. They said they don't do stairs. They can't even bring anything into the house because of liability concerns. But the guy was coming back the next day and he would move it into the garage. At least I needn't worry about it getting wet or stolen anymore.

I didn't hear from Get RXd until late that day. They sent a very brief message: "Freight orders are curbside only. This information is advertised on our website and is also mentioned in the tracking email you received."
They included a url showing a customer service page. It said that delivery is curbside only and that I must have several men available to bring it in from the street. I replied with a screenshot of their shopping cart page that offers choices with no indication that I was supposed to go to the customer service page to know more before I choose delivery. I would surely not have made the purchase if I knew that I was supposed to find a bunch of men. I live alone. God only knows where I was supposed to get them.
