Questionable knowledge and felt like upselling

I contacted them to see about getting free sponsored genetic testing for a disorder; According to two non-profits I spoke with that advocate for this disorder, and putting everything I have (genetic ancestry, symptoms/medical history and prelim test results) in 3 different A.I. systems (one medically specialized) think it's possible that I could have this particular disorder. The GC I spoke with does not, thinks i don't have the criteria since it's very rare, about 1 in 15K; I have 1 in 2 MILLION cancer that no health provider thought of...so I can speak of rare things.

I told her I was putting off diagnostic tests such as endo/colonoscopy due to fear of reaction of anesthetic and fasting (which, if I did have the disorder, could potentially be life threatening; I already had rhabdo from iodine contrast). Her response was I should follow my doctor's orders.

Ultimately the GC recommends whole exome testing, and then tells me if I DO have this disorder that it will be found, that it's not an impossibility.

Looking over the summary I received, I remember that I was NOT asked about exercise intolerance (a symptom, which I mentioned in a family/medical history document I uploaded to my profile, which appears they never read, and since deleted!). I wasn't asked about a few things that I listed in my history, and they stated as negative reporting on my summary. Had I been asked about other symptoms that I had, that are indicative of this particular disorder, maybe I would have met the criteria.

IMHO, I feel like they are trying to sell me on the more expensive route. And I don't think my GC had experience beyond education, from what I could find. Supposedly things were reviewed by an "MD" (who, what specialty, if any, no signature sign-off?) Will be taking these complaints further.

Lack of transparency regarding interns leading calls

I scheduled an appointment with a licensed genetic counselor. At the start of the call, I was told an intern would be present, and I agreed to that, assuming she would observe. Instead, the intern led at least half of the session. I was never asked for permission for this, and that lack of transparency matters.

When I raised concerns afterward, Genome Medical’s responses were inconsistent. One email implied a follow-up would be arranged as a service recovery. Another said I’d have to schedule it myself and still be billed. Ultimately, the “solution” was another session (still billed), with the promise it wouldn’t be led by a student.

This suggests interns may be regularly leading sessions that are billed as if they were delivered by a licensed professional. Their replies leaned on legal wording that a licensed counselor was “present the whole time,” but that’s not what patients are paying for. I booked, and expected, direct care from a licensed genetic counselor, not supervision of a trainee.

I was not pleased with the session or with how the issue was handled afterward.

This company is an insurance scam

This company is an insurance scam. There's not much more to say about that. They're frauds and scammers. It wouldn't surprise me if this was one big PE racket. Don't be a mark for their con. Find a real doctor.

Bad overall experience with genome…

Bad overall experience with genome medical. I contacted them to get genetic testing. The counseling session was fine but everything else was not. They sent me a kit for myriad genetic testing. I sent my test kit in. They did not recognized genome medical as a legitimate provider. I called. They said they called myriad. I followed up again because I receive not information and they gave me the same information that they would call.
I called again and then they said that myriad was waiting for my benefit information. I sent it in and never got any information. It took 3 months for Myriad to begin processing my kit.

Disgraceful.

Genome Medical is an embarrassment and abomination.

They were referred to us by Coopergenomics for extended family testing, and totally blew it at every possible turn.

Without getting too detailed or technical, I've spoken to about five separate people about our (not even/never established) case, and received a different answer from each person, not having any inkling about what the last associate was talking about.

If they do follow-up, it's not in a timely fashion. It feels like the blind leading the blind here.

We have complained about them to Coopergenomics so they are (hopefully) no longer referred out to prospective patients. Totally turned my in-laws off from testing and screwed up our plans big-time. Avoid at all costs.

Scam!

Genome counselor advised that the only charge would be for the test...$199 and that the telephone counseling was included. Several months later I received a bill for $250 for the counseling. After many emails and several calls I was told that they had a recording of my call to the counselor and that he never stated that information. I asked to hear the recording and they say that they legally cannot allow me to hear it?????
