Bad management and poor maintenance
Long wait times for gym equipment to be repaired, which is an outcome from a no maintenance approach by this company. Gym members are ignored when raising such issues, with the area manager advising them to leave if they can not wait for the equipment to be repaired. Numerous members have raised concerns via email to escalate the issues, only to be fobbed off with generic replies and no constructive way forward.

Everything's broken old and outdated!
I asked the manager 6 months ago to get 18kg dumbells as there isn't any. His response was ' I'll see what i can do'. Still nothing. All gym machinery and equipment is old and outdated. All grips on machines need replacing. Its becoming unusable seriously. The sauna has been broken for 7 years is that a joke ? The whole building needs an overhaul with brand new equipment. 50 pounds a month for 40 year old equipment. Changing rooms is pretty grubby and staff like to clean up while you take a shower and mop up all the filth toward the shower. Pretty uncomfortable to say the least. Staff are nice but their all kids and I'm sure they dont really know or care about cleanliness. I've seen the manager once in the almost 2 years ive been going there. Everything is broken and needs immediate restoration.

Needs care and cleaning more often!
Whenever I have used the changing rooms at Gloucester GL1 for family member's swimming lesson, I have consistently been disappointed at the lack of cleanliness in the family changing area. Dirty cubicles and floor. Actually saw a used sanitary item down the back of the bench! The ladies bathroom was a similar poor standard with flies around. Lockers without keys and broken locks mean not many areas to store clothes safely. I won't be taking family again. There is a sign asking people to remove shoes, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea these days! Used to be better than this!

Spend your hard earned money elsewhere!
Freeport Leisure Centre gym changing rooms are a health hazard! I gave Freedom Leisure a chance by notifying them yesterday and nothing has been done so you have left me no choice but to post here.
These facilities have not been cleaned in over a week. The sinks are blocked with hair, stains in the toilet and the most worrying thing, a used razor on the shower floor. This is not good enough! In other parts of the centre I have seen dirty plasters on the side of the pool and floating plastic. There is also a red liquid leaking from the gym ceiling!
Gyms are expensive and members deserve to have clean facilities. Disgusting!

Awful Swimming Pools!
Awful Swimming Pools!
Cold showers, dirty changing rooms which smell of the toilets. No storage for shoes meaning they are scattered across the floor causing a trip hazard. If you want to avoid getting ill in winter stay away from Freedom Leisure's swimming pools in Brighton and Hove.

They don't like the truth..
They don't like the truth... Tenterden leisure center has had a mirid of issues and if you raise these on Facebook the company just blocks you. These people should not be running what is a community facility. How can something subsidised by the council be more expensive than a chain gym with far better facilities and is it disgusting and dangerous.

Appalling service. Waste of money and time.
I highly recommend against using freedom leisure New Milton. As of 26/01/26, the pool has been closed for over two weeks due to “temperature issues”. There has been no contact made by management to update members or offer any form of compensation. The online rota is rarely updated on time, or changed last minute, meaning I’ve wasted numerous trips to the centre. When complaining at reception, poor experience is not taken seriously and complaints are not escalated. Appalling service, waste of money and time.
Great Customer Service
Below is my original review, which is self-explanatory. I didn't request any contact or follow up, but my review received a response within one hour of going live. The next day I received a phone call from centre manager, Matt. It was clear that he genuinely wanted to put things right, as opposed to the usual kind of limp customer service response. As a result of our conversation I received a phone call from Ben the following day and I arranged to go to the leisure centre and sort out a membership. I was compensated very generously for my previous negative experience and I am now a member. I have since used the centre on several occasions and am very impressed with the facilities, especially the gym and the sauna.
I was looking for a new gym and made an appointment over the phone with Sam for 12:30 on Wednesday 21st January at Cirencester Leisure Centre. I arrived in good time and was told by reception to sit outside his office and that he was aware I'd arrived. I watched him making phone calls and tapping around on his desktop as the clock ticked towards and beyond 12:30. Then, out of the blue, another member of staff brought someone else to the office, who clearly didn't have an appointment, and they were ushered straight in and dealt with immediately while I was ignored. Appalling customer service and ridiculously unprofessional. I'd started to have second thoughts anyway because I'd read in the local news that 2 members of the leisure centre staff had a punch up in front of kiddies having a swimming lesson. My experience just put the icing on the cake and I'll be looking elsewhere. I almost forgot...a complete waste of a journey and my petrol having travelled the 10 miles or so from Tetbury.

Rude lazy staff.
Terrible staff in gym. Rude not helpful. Andrea had no customer service skills and is very rude. Air conditioning is not turned on properly to save money.
A lot better gyms in Gloucester than this gym for a better price.
Poor children’s swimming lessons
We’ve decided to stop our child’s swimming lessons with Freedom Leisure after around two years, and wanted to share our experience for other parents.
The individual teachers were genuinely lovely and caring, but the overall programme felt poorly organised and managed. Despite attending regularly from around 18 months to nearly 3½ years old, there was very little clear progression, and our child remained in a class with much younger babies.
Freedom Leisure states that lessons follow the Swim England framework, however we were never told what stage our child was working towards, what skills were being taught, or given any record of progress. Basic water safety skills were also not clearly or consistently covered.
Cover sessions were often low quality, with untrained staff stepping in, and communication was poor — we frequently only found out about last-minute changes when we arrived.
What ultimately prompted us to leave was trialling another provider and seeing a significant difference. Children much younger than our son were confidently demonstrating skills and safety awareness he had never been taught, which was very disappointing after such a long time in lessons.
Overall, while staff were kind, we wouldn’t recommend Freedom Leisure for parents looking for well-structured children’s swimming lessons with clear progression and communication.

Useless organisation
Useless organisation, several times they shut the entire building down because the inept woke manager has a strop. No communication about it expect you to check the website every time you’re going for a workout. Machines always broken, the worst concept 2 rowers in the uk. Everything about the wave littlehampton makes my blood boil
Such a shame
I use the Brighton Withdean sure, it should be a really good gym, there's lots of facilities, tennis courts, gym, squash, outdoor tennis, sauna, and runs fitness and yoga classes - everything is there to make it a great experience. It's clean, staff are helpful and even has a great cafe area.
However, it is sadly totally over subscribed, and quite often some of the gym kit will be out of action for quite some time.
It has 5 decent running machines, with tv screens and global running routes available, but I've lost count of the amount of times a couple of these have been switched off, meaning a long wait to get on a working one. Even at 6 in the morning it can be just too busy.
There's an app to enable to you book onto the classes, but these are always fully booked 2 weeks in advance. You can join a waiting list, but by the time a notification comes through of a cancellation the space is already taken.
I went today, a working Friday at 10am, and couldn't even get into the car park - presumably as it's now used as a park and ride into town.
It's a council facility but it's not cheap, I pay a lot of money each month and it's extremely frustrating when you're not able to use it as you wish.
They really should limit the amount of members if they want to fully utilise the potential here.
My subscription is now cancelled and I'll be going elsewhere.

Friendly / helpful staff
I use the Hastings and Bexhill on sea centres and was surprised to see the terrible ratings on line .
I have only found the staff both friendly and efficient , I have been going to walking football , badminton and pickleball for over 5 years , whilst my son attends the group swimming lessons .
Well done , keep it up !

A bunch of conmen that are only interested in taking your money we are owed a couple of swimming lessons due to unable to attend due to there fault and it is impossible to arrange these lessons and we are unable to get a refund on them as well the manager supposed to contact us and arrange extra lessons but does not respond to messages or emails and unbale to ring him . Stay well Clear of this company unless desperate to loose money
Bad practical space planning in the changing area.
There is something essentially wrong with the layout of the facilities at the Cirencester Branch of Freedom Leisure.
The showers are separate from the changing rooms. The changing rooms are separate from the lockers, and the sauna is separate from the showers, changing rooms AND the lockers.
The means that... on arriving at the leisure centre, outdoor shoes are not allowed beyond the doors containing all the facilities. Shoes have to be removed and carried to a chosen changing room (or locker), where one has to remove all clothing and put on appropriate gym, pool or sauna attire. Then, because the changing rooms don't have locks, all belongings have to be stored in the very small lockers elsewhere. One has to supply one's own padlock to secure the belongings while using the facilities. It is good practice to shower before the facilities are used but the shower has no accommodation for dry towels to dry oneself after the shower. The sauna is behind a door that is locked until a code is entered.
After leaving the sauna, one has to re-enter the shower while trying to keep the towel dry. On leaving the shower, a vacant changing room has to be found and made available until one's clothes are retrieved from the padlocked locker and carried into the changing room. Having retrieved the clothing, one then needs to dry off and change clothes ready to leave the centre.
It seems to me that it would be more logical that the changing room ought to be part of the shower room and the locker should be accessible from the changing room. Space planning has not been sufficiently considered here.
I have found it very awkward to negotiate the separate components of the changing room etc and I am therefore stopping my membership forthwith.
PS.All this has to be done under public view.
Why is the app offering yearly…
Why is the app offering yearly membership, pay 9 months and get 3 months free when I tried to pay today, not only did the manager not know anything about it and did not understand how the membership scheme works…but I only got 10 months with 2 months free!!
Surely it’s illegal to advertise one price and charge another but if managers have no clue how membership structure works, what is their role??? Will anyone answer this from the company? Probably not!

Kettering Pool
Been taking my son to the Kettering pool since last March, after months of slow progress we had to switch his teacher to Fred and he thrived with him and quickly progressed from stage 1 to 2 then 3. Since stage 3 and having a new teacher his progress slowed down again namely due to teachers always changing and the layout of the pool changing. Stage 3 is now in the shallow end in a section less than half the size it was, he’s been in this stage almost a year yet things such as water safety message knowledge hasn’t even been assessed. We’ve now pulled him from lessons due to health and safety concerns. As the swimming areas is now smaller but class size the same I witnessed children nearly get kicked in the head on 2 occasions Friday due to overcrowding. When raising concerns the general managers tone was argumentative and hostile, 100% do not recommend we’re now looking elsewhere. Worse bit is there is no complaints section on their website, I wonder why.
