Poor swimming facilities
Poor swimming facilities. Only two shower cubicles with doors, two others have doors removed and others are out of order. Can’t have a decent shower after swim as the que for the two cubicles is too long. Please can we have the doors fixed? The facility is generally unclean. So many reviews here always points out to poor hygiene, management acknowledges but no action.

It’s a good gym but Abbey leisure centre is extremely filthy. By the time is afternoon all staff give up on maintenance and the changing rooms stink of urine. There is hair in the showers bins overloaded. For hygiene they should disinfect the gym floor at least every hour and get staff to clean up! Also anyone and everyone walks in to the spa because the gym can’t train staff to have a look out on genuine people who pays to use the spa. They should give wristband with date and time to maintain access

Poorly Maintained Spa and No Accountability
I’ve been a member at Abbey Leisure Centre, run by Everyone Active, and I’m incredibly disappointed by the ongoing neglect of the spa and changing facilities. While the gym seems to receive regular investment, the spa area is consistently left in a poor and unhygienic state.
The hydrotherapy jets have been broken for over a month. The air conditioning in the men’s changing room hasn’t worked for ages. Spa showers are only partially functional, and the water cooler doesn’t even cool water — plus, it’s positioned so badly that it triggers the fire alarm when used.
The men’s showers smell of urine and are clearly not being cleaned properly. Tiles in the sauna are broken, leaving sharp edges. There’s a strong smell of mould in the saunas and steam rooms, yet staff are handing out essential oils (against their own posted rules), which only make the situation worse.
Despite raising all of this in person, via email, and in meetings, no specific timelines have been given. Just vague promises that “we’re working on it.”
I’m giving two stars instead of one only because a few staff members have at least acknowledged the concerns and were courteous in person. But the lack of action, transparency, and urgency from management is deeply frustrating — and the spa is simply not in the condition members are paying for.

This place is hazardous
This place is hazardous, very dirty and reeks and i think it needs to be reported to health and safety(I definitely will). Children are definitely going to fall sick from being in that place. How can the whole changing area consistently smell of poo and urine. Aside that, the front staff are the definition of rude, passive aggressive and unprofessional, it’s like a jungle with no rules. Zero customer service they never respond to enquires.

I have been member of Becontree Heath…
I have been member of Becontree Heath centrer for years. I feel home and confortable when I am there. Their stuff are all nice , understanding, professional and ready to help when you need them. I will recommended it

The changing rooms are the worst I've…
The changing rooms are some of the worst I've experienced. I've been a member since 2024 and the changing rooms are consistently dirty. One week I went in 3 times and the same pubes were stuck to the shower wall for the whole time. There's been a piece of chewing gum in the cubical for 3 months. The toilets by the pool only ever have one cubical open. Its a shame because the center has some good facilities, its just a shame they can't keep it clean.

Firstly, I would like to address the temperature of the spa area. On multiple occasions, I have found the water temperature to be uncomfortably cold, which detracts from the overall relaxation and enjoyment that the spa experience should provide. I believe that maintaining an appropriate temperature is crucial for the comfort of all patrons, and I kindly request that this issue be assessed and remedied.
Additionally, I have noticed that some visitors are not adhering to the established rules regarding food and the use of soaps in the spa area. This behavior not only detracts from the serene environment but also raises concerns about hygiene and cleanliness. It is important for all guests to respect the rules to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
I appreciate the hard work that your team puts into maintaining the Abbey Leisure Centre, and I hope that my feedback will be taken into consideration to improve the overall experience for all patrons. Thank you for your attention to these matters. I look forward to seeing positive changes on my next visit.

I joined up on the 18 month membership…
I joined up on the 18 month membership at Barking Abbey leisure run by Everyone Active. During the sales process I was told that there was a planned renovation to the facilities (and that the gym may have to close for several weeks over Christmas). 18 months later and now my membership has expired, and there has been no renovations. I’ve been sold a fraudulent experience. They lie and say anything during the sales process to get your money. I would strongly recommend avoiding these con artists

adequate gym and pool, bad spa, but really wrecked by terrible administration only go if you don't have any other choices locally
myself and my partner decided to sign up to everyone active as it was the only gym easily accessible to us that also had a pool, I was also interested to see that it had an attached spa.
The whole place is not brilliantly maintained e.g. the aircon has clearly seen better days, although the gym itself is well-equipped and importantly the pool is the only one available in Barking (which is honestly what will keep you there)
the spa was a real letdown, small/overcrowded most of the time (even though it's technically at half capacity), didn't respond quickly when a sauna went out of order etc. would not recommend paying for the premium to access the spa unless you're going to get your value elsewhere.
However the biggest problem is their administration is horrific, every time we got to reception asked to do a simple thing like booking activity or getting a clarification as to their product structure people just looked confused, in the end we had to write in and leave a message in person over nealry two weeks to eventually get a response from a personal trainer ( and the advertised app does not seem to sync with some of the premium membership benfits to book in), and despite sending multiple messages through the everyone active app with queries never seem to have got a reply via what is meant to be the official channel (I honestly don't think they read them). This has too be honest led to quite a big worry while I decide to stick with them (due to the lack of alternative providers locally) my partner decided to leave during the 14 day trial period (to get a refund) largely due to frustrations around admin we followed the instructions, online including sending a message through the app but have received complete radio silence from them no confirmation of receipt of the email, or actual response confirming things have gone through. There's also bizarre stuff like when you cancel the membership they seem to assume you have to also manually block them with your bank as if they can't trust themselves do not keep taking money out of an account (not something I've run into with other providers that require a direct debit/makes the whole thing feel a bit amateurish).
All in all go if you need a pool live in bakring, and/or really love Saunas but otherwise it's not worth the price, which is a bit of a shame as it feels like it has a lot of potential but this has been squandered
Abbey leisure centre is great!
Abbey leisure centre is great! Everything under 1 roof. Spa is amazing and the staff friendly. Not enough parking and it's not free. Yousif has been very helpful with the membership.
Robbing people’s money if they forget to cancel their direct debit
Cancel my daughter’s swimming lessons but forgot to cancel my direct debit, keep taking money last 2 months. When I did make complain to abbey leisure centre, they sent me an email saying :
‘A refund has been added to your account, you will either be able to collect this in centre or contact us on abbey leisure centre, Barking and we can process this over the phone.’
When I called the same person replied me, they can’t refund me the money as my fault how could I forgot to cancel. so everyone active will rob people like that if customer forget to cancel the direct debit. If as a human being mistake can be happened but they don’t have any policy to refund the money back. Even the manager said nothing can’t be done as I forgot to cancel the direct debit, my fault, they can’t do anything at all without robbing people as a big company. I have this experience from Abbey leisure centre, Barking. So frustrating.
Please be careful when you cancel any subscription with everyone active make sure you cancel the direct debit as they have the policy not to refund people if though they didn’t use their service.

Barking Abbey Spa Several Health & Safety Issues

I have silently watch the dismissal, disrespectful response to long term members & regular users from the most senior staff member (Janice I think her name is) I am not sure if she is the manager but she appears to be running things. She makes the members experience of the spa an increasingly negative one.
Countless members are scared of her, especially because English is not their primary language most of them complain whilst in the steam room and sauna every time I visit. At least 4 members complain about her and the increasingly unfriendly and unhygienic environment we have to endured. Members complaint are continually ignored.
I never complain but because the health of members are at risk, my duty of care head has kicked in and so this is my experience of Barking Abbey Spa.
Room Therapy Service 0
No Bath robes for massage, no towels while waiting, when I asked for both, I was told neither is available! Massage Table is very old peeled. Floor looks dirty. The Therapist do their best but they remain in an extremely difficult position. Their manager is a bully and does not listen to them.
Massage Experience (10)
Therapists are all excellent. They are very good at providing the appropriate therapy for each client. Visitors & members say extremely positive things about the staff, but they are working under an extremely bullish atmosphere. They can't protest, because they will be punished. All members see how difficult the atmosphere is for them. We empathise with the Therapists.
Spa Rooms Hygiene (0)
It is evident that there is complete lack of up keep to the Spa as a direct result of whoever is managing the Spa, your current manager is incapable. Many members have left and moved to the Canning Town Spa because of the dirt.
All Rubber on doors mostly are worn out. Doors are not closing properly anymore. Steam room walls & seats are all disgustingly dirty, not to mention the hydration pool. So cream, blurry, soapy the pool looks disgusting!
A member explained to me, why there is evidence of rats visiting the sauna room, the floor board close to the door is broken with chipped wood always scattered on the floor, 100% evidence of rats bitting through the sauna plasterboard. That area continually has scattered wood chips! I believe rats visit the Spa every night!
Steam rooms seats & walls are slimmy, people are allowed to enter with food, soaps, all products, oils, mobile devices, now I continual see and hear the annoying sounds of music from visiting spa users ears. Soapy sits everytime I visit which is 3 times a week.
Hydration pool looks so unclean, I am shocked people use it! In the past, everytime I entered that Barking Abbey Hydration Pool, fungal infection appears on my skin. Back then hygiene was moderate now it 100% neglected and worse than we have ever experienced.
Last week the Spa was completely closed! I only found out on arrival. Why wasn't I called when I booked via the app? Why has it been shut throughout the week with 0 calls to myself, no compensation or apologies from management. They really take our membership for granted. I wasn't informed the Spa opened on Saturday 20th January it 2024 but it is currently open, the hydration pool is not in use and apart from mushrooms growing in the pipe system, worms are coming through the pipes into the steam rooms!!! Do you understand how long it takes to remove worms within pipes!!
Suggestion
Everyone Active Management Team needs to be changed or a public law suit or images capturing evidence of slim, rats & worms will be posted all over social media. This environment is too intimidating to complain face to face, members have been 'punished' for complaining at the spa reception desk and now the lists of what's wrong with the Spa is getting ridiculously long due to mismanagement.
Abbey Spa used to be excellent. Not anymore. Could a change of manager get us back to the correct standard of hygiene and how long will that take?
I remain positive as it is such a great Spa when managed professionally and efficiently. Be warned, it's a 'No Go Area' right now!

They are just awful
They are just awful, hungry for money put my direct debit to be charged the double amount shown at the start of membership and no one bothers to communicate with you or a number to call and when tried to contact the centre where I going they said can not do much and I need to contact them on website.

Abbey Leisure Centre in Barking
Abbey Leisure Centre in Barking. If you want to swim for fitness in the summer holidays then forget about it (unless you can lane swim at 6.30am‘ or 8.30pm) The rest of the time it’s full of kids and inflatables. It’s also very dirty. I asked Everyone active to return six weeks worth of swim membership payment only to be advised to see a member of staff in person. I asked a member of staff in person. Who told me I had to speak to another member of staff who is on holiday. The whole thing is a disgrace. Don’t bother with this centre if you want to swim.

The instructor was very good. She told us everything she was going to do and interacted with the people. She seemed to be enjoying what she was doing

I would like to join the everyone…
I would like to join the everyone active Barking, however it's seem that there is discrepancies in the membership package information online and in club. Online it states that you can join the barking (Abbey Leisure Centre everyone active Club) on a Platinum (£49.99) or Gym membership (£34.99) Platium you get, gym ,swmming,exercise classes, fortis,spa &hot yoga plus everyone active demand and 14 day priority. For the Gym membership you get gym swimming exercise classes and sauna (excludes spa) plus 7 day priority booking. I want to join via the gym membership option but when you call the club and or go in directly they tell you that the sauna is not included in the gym membership option for barking even though it clearly shows that it is on the website (there is no information or note which clearly states that Sauna is not included in the barking Gym Memebership package). They then try to push the platinum membership and tell you that the sauna is only included in that memebership, however that is not what is shown on the site. I don't know if this is a sales tactic to up the platinum membership sales, but this is not very good customer service. It is misleading advertising and should be updated if the information provided is not accurate. I then contacted the contact us email provided on their website to request clarification and yet no one has responded up to now. I consider this to be false and misleading information under the Customer Right Act 2015 and would like clarification as to why different information is being given about the online membership as I simple want to purchase the gym memebership inclusive of the sauna due to my arthritis.
