Extreme unfriendly staff, don't feel welcome at this airport.
Zeer slechte bewegwijzering naar de diverse parkeergarages, als je vraagt waar je moet zijn krijg je geen behoorlijk antwoord maar wordt je afgesnauwd. Ook bij het inscannen van de koffer staat er een 'drill sergeant' te snauwen. Erg veel onvriendelijk personeel, vieze toiletten, en bizar hoge prijzen. Er wordt overduidelijk misbruik gemaakt van dat er niets mee mag in je handbagage. Voor alles wordt de hoofdprijs gerekend. Het was niet heel druk, dus door de controle ging soepel. Daar waren de mensen nog enigzins vriendelijk.
Het gros van het grond personeel straalt niet uit het werk leuk te vinden. Düsseldorf Airport moet misschien eens kritisch kijken naar het personeelsbeleid.
Rude staff in security checks
I was traveling home from Düsseldorf airport. I don't speak german well and my english is not good, especially not when I'm stressed.
I pay extra for fast line and priority line to avoid stress and anxiety. I use to that the people who works in the fast line and priority line are more politely and understand that some people in that line will need some extra time or help.
But not in this airport!
I will usually have my service dog with me, but he could be with me this time, so I was very dependent on my boyfriend.
I understand that I have to go trough the scanner alone, but it's why i neet to go trough first, because he can se me.
If my servicedog it's not with me to warn about seizures or other things related to my handicap, it's more important that my boyfriend can be where I can se him and where he can se me and can help me.
I know I don't look sick or some one with a handicap, but I have some chronic disorders and mental disorders and in worst case i will pass out or stress can trigger an psychosis, where I can harm myself.
Especially one lady in security had a really unpleasant attitude and made me feel insecure from the start and pointed me aside. I understand they point people aside for extra checks, it happens to me 9 out of 10 times and we fly a lot. I don't know what I'm doing wrong since it happens to me SO often, but all other countries and other airports in Germany, they have no problem with my boyfriend standing by my side due the ekstra checks even if I have my service dog with me. But here I didn't even have my dog to help and here it was a problem for them... Or at least for that lady.
Even though my boyfriend told her that I have a mental disorders and need to have him close, she wanted him to leave me and he was only allowed to stand by my side because he was very insistent that he should and would not leave. If it's not a problem at NO other airports, why is it a problem for them at that airport?
The lady then had to stand and make annoyed noises about it. Fair she don't understand people with mental ilness, We can not force people to understand thing they don't, but why does she have to be so disrespectful and so unpleasant.
It only took us more time in security because I had an anxiety attack because of that lady.
I didn't even get an apology, but I also don't expect her to think she did anything wrong, I don't even think she can see what she did was wrong, with the attitude she had from the start, i don't expect much.
I don't think that I write here will make a difference, because I have read many reviews from that airport after my experience. And they go all the way back from 2017 until December 2024 and apparently it is normal that they are very rude in security checks, so I don't expect they will do something to train their staff in just a bit of common courtesy at least.
But I hope if someone with mental illnes will read it and think about to go to another airport where they are not so rude and disrespectful.

Ekstra bagage geld betalen!!!
K was 24 januari bij Gate C om 14 .15 was vliegtijd.
En daar bij laatste kontrol voor ticket, zegt iemand dat k moet wachten, k heb meer bagage!
Nee!
K had recht om 30 kg bagage
En 8 kg handbagage en een handtas.
Ze luisterde mij helemaal niet omdat dat ik geen deuts en Engels praten!
K probeerde uitleggen daar had ik recht om met mijn bagage zit in mijn ticket maar niks!
En ze wilt mijm bankpasje en zei, dat k €80 moet betalen!
€80! voor n kleine tas en die zit in mijn ticket!
En die bagage was niet 8 kg!
ZO ONTEVREDEN OVER DĪT SYSTEM EN OPLICHTERS!!!!

Ridiculous how long you need to wait
This is not the first time flying from and to Dusseldorf, but everytime (and also today) we need to wait extremely long to get our luggage. Today it took over 1,5 hours to get it. I have trackers in our suitcases and I saw that they were already in the back for a long time. Except our stroller, so we now already waiting for two hours for a stroller. Which is one of the first things you need as a parent traveling and the last thing that’s checked in at the gate! It’s really ridiculous! Hire some more people for in the back!
Oh, and the toilets are also extremely dirty!

Extremely rude security check personnel.
This incident occurred at Security Check, near Gate A, on 17th December 2024, around 15:40. At that time, the area was almost empty with no queues, which should have made it a quick and pleasant experience. However, we were a group of adults, and all of us had a bad experience at the security check on some level, including insults and name-calling directed at one of our passengers.
While it’s not necessary for the staff to be overly friendly, it would suffice if they were at least not rude or displaying clear power-hungry traits. Staff training is an absolute must!!!
Incoming good, outgoing awful
Incoming to Dusseldorf was very good. Easy walk from the plane to passport control which was efficient (albeit UK arrivals get more questions now it seems, such are the perils of being from a “third country”).
Departing was completely the opposite. Security checks are painfully slow which seems unnecessary as a lot of staff seem to be just standing around doing nothing, and this was on a weekday December mid-morning so I’d hate to be there at a peak time.
Passport checks are also slow for non-EU. Only 2 manual desks as opposed to 2 manual desks plus automated gates for EU (seems to be no obvious reason why automated can’t also be used for UK, unless there’s some red tape I’m unaware of).
After all that, no time for the duty free shop which was unsurprisingly quiet. Given that we arrived at the airport 2 hours before our flight, the whole process was a poor experience.

Düsseldorf International Airport. I would expect some quality service of the German culture, but everyone is trying to rip you off, and moreover, pushing you and rob you of your properties, especially the Security Officers!
It seems they used to work for the former Gestapo...
Previously they ripped me off by forcing me to check in my hand luggage, for which they charged 60 euro(!!!), because they considered a half full expensive lotion in a 125ml(!) bottle unacceptable to carry with me, while the lady before me clearly carried something like 2 litres of fluids with her.
This time the security robbed me of an expensive sun screen lotion from my hand luggage, with contained about 50ml, but was still in a 200ml container.
I asked the Security Officer to shake it, so she could clearly know it was well below 100ml. She took it to her Überstormbahnführer and he just shook his fat head. Bye bye sunscreen.
Did they really think I would blow up the airplane with 50ml of sun screen lotion?

Yelled out when asking for help
Went to passport control with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Both cannot speak German or English. My mother-in-law has dementia and needs assistance. Therefore I have escorted them to the entrance of the security area. We were just waiting in line. As I tried to ask one of the female employees for help by raising my hand, she first asked if I was a passenger. I tried to explain to her I am just escorting passengers and before I could finish, she started yelling at me. So rude and unprofessional. The nazism is still in their blood. There was another couple being escorted behind us and the screaming lady said nothing to them. This review is only about the employee at passport control that was active at 12:00 o clock (gate C).
VRESELIJK AIRPORT Langer dan een uur gewacht op kinderwagen
Wat een vreselijke airport!!!
Meer dan een uur gewacht op de kinderwagen! Vervolgens vraag je hoelang het nog gaat duren en waar de kinderwagen opgehaald kan worden, weet de medewerker het niet. Dat meisje die daar voor de sier stond achter de balie bij bagage nummer 18 van Istanbul Airport - Dusseldorf (rond 15:00 op 19-10-2024). Eerst geeft ze aan niet te weten hoelang het duurt met de kinderwagen. Vervolgens stuurt ze ons naar een andere bagageruimte om de kinderwagen daar op te halen (wat daar niet was). Toen we terug kwamen en ze merkte dat we gefrustreerd erover zijn lult ze in het duits iets over Holland, ipv een excuses.
Behalve dat alles zo slecht is geregeld is ook de hygiëne om van te janken.
Enige waar deze airport goed in is zijn onzinnige steekproeven die door de sierpolitie daar worden uitgevoerd. Waardoor je ook zo weer tijd verloren bent..

Slecht airport. We zijn van dubai gekomen. Was alleen maar 1 rasta man was koffers aan t lossen. Het ging zo lang duren we hadden bijna 3 uur gewacht voor ons koffers
Dusseldorf, leuk voor twee dagen.
Dusseldorf, een stad van contrasten. De wijk Friedrichstad is een full foreighner area. Hier kom je binnen vanuit Hauptbahnhoff met veel hotels. Een enorme allochtonen- achterstandswijk met merendeel döner, shisha, kappers, Chinese winkels, zwervers, junken etc. De wijk wordt door het overwegend gezellige centrum Alstadt gescheiden door de Koningsallee met winkels van de superdure merken. Hier de alom vertegenwoordigde Oostblokkers met blonde haren, opgespoten lipjes en borstjes vergezeld van getatoeëerde sportschooltypes. Altstadt is supergezellig met toeristenrestaurants waar het bedienend personeel weinig gastvrijheid uitstraalt. Snel eten (kleine couverts en dus niet Duits) en wegwezen. Helaas veel alcoholisten, zwervers en bedelaars die overigens niet vervelend werden ervaren. Dusseldorf heeft aan charme ingeboet en is eerder een snelle stad voor toeristen. De Duitse sfeer en culinaire kwaliteit heerst er niet meer. Betalen met plastic wordt niet gewaardeerd. Sommige horecagelegenheden accepteren gewoonweg geen plastic maar willen cash. Eerst even vragen dus. De geldautomaten daarentegen zijn op één hand te tellen. Toch, voor twee dagen is het een leuk oord maar voor de Duitse gastvrijheid en kwaliteit moet je toch echt dieper het land in. Kortom, een leuke doorreislocatie voor twee avonden.

Kunnen jullie meer op hygiene opletten op de toilet, meer schoonmaakpersoneel in dienst zetten aub. Het was niet te doen kan het niet met woorden uitleggen was zo onhygiënisch gatver!!! Je durft niet eens te plassen, het ruikt zo vies!!!

Das Einchecken war eine völlige Katastrophe, da man Gepäckanhänger und Tickets selbst ausdrucken musste (was nicht richtig angezeigt wird, was dazu führte, dass sich Leute anstellten, die dies nicht taten).
Wenn man das Personal etwas fragt, wird man gerügt und es wird anders geredet als zuvor.
Irgendwann wurden Menschen aus der Warteschlange für bestimmte Flüge herausgenommen, um an einen anderen Ort umzusteigen, weil einfach ein Herzinfarkt aufgetreten war.
Sehr schlecht.

This is a very bad airport. Bags and strollers are always missing. In addition, the staff are uncooperative, discourteous, and do not appreciate children.I noticed that the German employees were talking among themselves and neglecting their work, while the Turkish employees were chatting with Turkish passengers. When you tell them you don't have enough time, they say they are doing their job and that you didn't come at the right time, but they don't admit they were busy talking. Additionally, during baggage check-in, they brought in other people returning from another flight, which wasted more time. An employee conducted a thorough search of my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, which scared her because she hadn't interacted with many people before. The employee didn't have a gentle way of searching children. Do you train them to handle children like this???

Very much depends on the airline. Emirates and Qatar are OK. Lufthansa is beyond what anyone could ever consider appalling. Latter is crammed down a back corner, chronically understaffed, and the airport staff (not Lufthansa) have to care for folks waiting in lines for hours(!) with water and treats.
The airport staff are OK. Somewhat perfunctory sometimes, but OK. Baggage handlers are rather slow unloading, and security are sometimes understaffed during busy periods.

ALERT!!! DÜSSELDORF AIRPORT
Nog nooit zulke slechte medewerkers gezien. We zijn vandaag in Düsseldorf geland, na eerder in Turkije drie pakjes sigaretten op de luchthaven te hebben gekocht, één per persoon. We hebben hiervoor 100 euro betaald. Nadat we onze bagage hadden opgehaald, liepen we naar de uitgang. Mijn zus had het zakje met de drie pakjes sigaretten bij zich. Toen mijn andere zusje en ik buiten stonden, merkten we dat onze zus niet meer achter ons was. Blijkbaar was ze door een BLONDE VROUWELIJKE MEDEWERKER teruggeroepen.
Wij stonden inmiddels buiten en konden niet meer naar binnen. Onze zus moest 155 euro extra betalen omdat ze drie pakjes sigaretten bij zich had, terwijl ze uitlegde dat we met drie personen waren. Ze vroeg zelfs of de vrouw ons kon terugroepen, maar die zei simpelweg: "Pech, te laat."
We hebben hulp gezocht en werden van de ene naar de andere plek gestuurd. Uiteindelijk kwamen we terecht bij de douane ("zoll"). Daar werden we 'geholpen' door twee medewerkers die zich verschrikkelijk gedroegen. Het waren echte racisten. Ze deden alsof ze de koning van het land waren en we werden letterlijk WEGGEJAAGD. Nog nooit zulke slechte medewerkers gezien!
De zeer behulpzame medewerker, die helaas weinig productief is en vooral bezig lijkt met zitten en lachen met mensen, heeft ons verteld dat we een e-mail moeten sturen en dat we ons geld terug zouden krijgen. Dit verwachten we dan ook.
