The machine itself is great. Takes some time to understand it perfectly. However the seals last several months and if you don't have spares to replace it will make watery coffee. So I would say get extra gaskets and a few extra pucks so you can make one for a friend. The holder/mount is a must so you can see the extraction.
When it works perfectly the espresso is amazing. Looking forward to my second one that I ordered and have yet to receive.
I would recommend and say that the wait is worth it. Also a huge plus is cleaning is very easy.

As a startup, I was expecting delays. I was not disappointed. But I received my CoffeeJack and I was not disappointed. Quick and easy to use. Delicious espresso. Quick and easy to clean. I leave mine at my office so that I can have a great cup of espresso whenever I feel like it, instead of a cup from the large pot of typical American coffee.

And, about the delay: this startup was different than most in that they continually kept us informed about everything that was going on. A lot of the delay was because they were remanufacturing items that their contractors did not get quite right. They could have shipped a crappy product - I've had other internet crowdsource startups to that - but they didn't. They invested a huge amount of time and their own money to make a product that 100% matched (or even exceeded) what was promised.

I’ve been using CoffeeJack for sometime now. After some initial experimentation, I am now able to consistently get a great espresso.
There was a long delay and get the product. I contribute that to all the Covid madness.
The product works great once you figure out how to use it to your liking. I highly recommend this product.

The Coffeejack is pretty good. If you want something for on the move that gives you a bit of a créma, then it’s a nice alternative to an aeropress. I use filter paper above and below the puck to prevent chanelling and start slowly to pre-infuse the puck. Not yet tried the puck screen, but suspect that might help with extraction. I’ve built the coffee jack into my morning routine, so the preparation required is a bit of a ritual in itself. It has to be said, the hand pumping is pretty satisfying. Had this now for over a year, no issues with it. Do watch the instruction videos though before you use for the first time though!

I bought coffee jack on Kickstarter. Just like any start up business they had some ups and downs with production, shipping, and anything else that could come up. Through out it all, they stayed in contact, and stayed positive. It took longer than usual, but I think they ended up with a great product, that was worth the wait. I look forward to new additions .

This is a great little coffee maker, easy to use and it makes fabulous espresso.

I feel like I need to acknowledge the frustration of all the backers with all the multitude of delays in getting the product. This is the only kickstarter project I have ever backed, but my understanding is that in buying in you are supporting a project, not actually buying a product. With that in mind, I am very impressed with the developers for their determination to deliver a great product and also to keep the backers informed throughout the entire process.

I was an original kickstarter backer, and waited a long time for it. So does it work and how good is it.
Yes it works, I use it everyday. It took a few goes to “tune in” to how to use it properly. Things like don’t have the grind too small, don’t pack the grind too tightly. I use a tiny bit of olive oil on the pump once a month which seems help with maintenance. I also purchased the metal gauze which really helps distribute the water better (definitely makes a difference) James Hoffman (YouTube) suggests using a paper filter, but it’s a bit of a hassle. Also don’t overfill it, it just makes it harder work to pump.
The coffee I get out is great and I feel nd it better than my Aeropress.
I definitely recommend it, but be sure to tweak your own process to get the best cup.

At the end of the day I am very happy with this product. After a bit of experimenting I have learned to get the coffee I want. I have found that using freshly ground coffee, getting the grind setting right , preheating the device (by running a dose of boiling water through first), and using filters over the grind in the puck are all required for the best results. I have docked a star for the learning process required and the problems with getting the product out to people but I am now a happy customer

To successfully bring to market such a fantastic product, and not be derailed by COVID and the many supply issues, deserves massive respect. At various points they could have compromised the final product to get it over the line, the fact they didn't is a measure of the engineering pride that they have.

I absolutely love my little coffeejack, the quality is exceptional, and has that tactile design that makes it a pleasure to use.

Unfortunate timings with Covid had a big impact on the project, but the team at Coffeejack have pulled through, and have ended up delivering an awesome product. Be patient- good things come to those that wait!

I have only good words to say about this CoffeeJack…..I use mine 2-3 times a day since I received it almost a year ago now and it’s still working perfectly with no issues! I always wanted an expresso machine but could never afford a decent one. Now I have CoffeeJack I can pull great shots in minutes and when I’m travelling I can take it with me so never have to drink crappy hotel instant coffee or stale filter coffee again! I know there have been some challenges with some peoples orders and I can sympathise with those people but when you consider these guys tried to launch this project just months before Covid happened, they’ve busted their arses trying to recover and they’re clearly focused on customers so I personally thinking the negative reviews are unwarranted. I have recommended CoffeeJack to close friends and work colleagues and I would do the same to you!

I love my CoffeeJack. I havent’ managed crème or the top yet, but who cares, it tastes like a real espresso and I only need to boil the kettle to make it.

Coffeejack leave filter coffee for dead - there is no comparison. And it beats an Italian stove top espresso machine behind because of its pure genius simplicity.

We mainly use it when the power goes out, which is does a lot here. We are also planing to travel and i already know that a real morning coffee is just the ticket i invested in.

i would also like to commend Coffeejacks customer service. I backed them as a kick starter in what ended up been a hellish time for any startup - let alone one that required precision engineering and they have delivered, they are still delivering.

Sometimes people forget that when you back a kickstarter there is no guarantee you will ever see your reward. Coffeejack has done an amazing job and i could not be happier with the product, the communication and their customer service.

I backed the kickstarter for coffeejack hours before it closed in 2020. It seemed a nice little project, and I was due to be travelling a lot for work, so it seemed ideal for me. Then, covid happened. The project faced great difficulties with timescales, with many steps and stages delayed, both by the pandemic, the practicalities of working through the pandemic, and unexpected issues that occurred. The thing that needs to be said for the team is that they were *100% transparent* about what was happening and clear about the impact this would have. Every time there was progress, an update was released. Every time there was a setback, there was an update released.

Something I have noticed after backing many kickstarters over the years is the difference between a good company and a bad one. The coffeejack company, despite the delays that were outside of their power, acted professionally and informatively at every step, keeping their customers in the loop and working on trust, not false promises. While the project was well overdue, I had no worries about it not being completed, despite having moved house and jobs in between backing and receiving.

As a company, they have proven that they can come through during the hardest of times, and I trust them and will buy from them again in the future.

The product received (a coffee jack and travel kit set) was excellent, and has been used daily since being received.

I understand all the negative reviews, and my heart goes out to those who parted with their money and have been let down so far. My heart goes out more to the creators of coffee jack, who made every effort to be open and honest about all the challenges along the way- covid was unprecedented for many reasons but they were so open and detailed about the whole process, I learned a lot and found it to be fascinating, and thank the creators for being so open, honest and detailed in the whole process! My respect to them for keeping going despite the incredible challenges they've endured. Now on to the product, which i have used many times over the last year. It is a very handsome product that looks good on the kitchen worktop. It is also a meditative process of making a really lovely cup of coffee. I love it, and use it to make cappuccino for myself. I find making more than one takes a long time (I have young kids, time is always short) so in that case I will make a jug of filter coffee. I do enjoy the process of making it, and I intend on taking it with me on expedition - I will spend 11 weeks on a ship for my research and I'm sure my coffeejack will be a close companion for that time! The manual coffee grinder is, in my opinion, not effective (hence 4 stars not 5), but I admit it didn't give it a chance- I used it once and then didn't bother again, so perhaps I should give it another go. The milk frother also hasn't been used, mainly because I'm lazy and have one that froths and heats at the same time. The one time I did use it I found it to be very powerful though. I have the stand but didn't bother with a case, but perhaps I'll invest... overall, I find the coffeejack to be a great piece of kit, very satisfying to use, nice to look at, and ultimately I thoroughly enjoy the beautiful creamy espresso that it makes. It's even inspired me to buy different coffee beans to explore the different tastes. Thanks a lot guys!

I am a backer of this project and love what they have done! The coffee this thing produces is great! I get why many people give 1 star reviews as they are not happy with the long delays, but I don't think it's fair to give 1 star for this. Instead of stopping this project a long time ago and giving up, they continued and fought for their backers and their product they believed in, updating us all on the progress and all difficulties they encountered. Yes, there have been long delays but the people behind this product are honest and cincere and the product itself makes a really nice espresso!
So 5 stars for a really good cup of coffee, and 5 stars for not giving up on your customers. I'm looking forward to your next product!

Parts of my order have yet to be delivered but I'm giving 5 stars because all throughout, CoffeeJack has been very transparent. They have always informed me of delays, and have been very reassuring that my order would be completed eventually.

It was a little slow getting off the ground initially, but it was well worth the wait! It is everything that it claims to be!

Yes, the product took several years but most of that was due to the pandemic. The issues with customer support, in my opinion, also traces back to the pandemic - delays and supply chain issues added to their production and delivery times. You try working for years to get a product working to specifications - see what that does to the budget, how nothing is left for customer service. Honestly, I am amazed that they didn't throw in the towel after 2021 much less after delivering the initial Kickstarter packages. And yet a lot of folks complain. I've backed projects where the group really did "take the money and run away".

I backed the Coffeejack as a present for my husband who, before the pandemic, traveled a lot for work. After the start of the pandemic, with the shutdowns followed by numerous retooling and "back to the drawing board" updates, I was 50-50 that the product would be delivered. I paid the extra for the shipping, realizing the reasons behind the request was extraordinary. Yes, I had a few thoughts of "a sucker born every day", would I ever get the Coffeejack, etc.. I was thrilled when it arrived. I immediately gave it to my husband. He was confused at first but then, his eyes lit up

My husband wrote the following product review:

This is a great portable espresso maker! It does take a little bit of getting used to the technique, but all espresso makers do. After you've worked with it for a few days, it produces an espresso that is every bit as good as that I can produce with my home espresso machine.

There are a few key points to the technique:

1) Buy yourself a puck screen right away. You'll want a 45.5 mm puck screen for good results. Without the puck screen, you'll get a LOT of channeling, and very bitter espresso. The puck screen is an easy fix for this problem.

2) Use the right espresso powder. Personally I find that Lavazza Espresso Italiano works very well in this device.

3) Get a puck tamper. I use an auto-leveling spring-loaded tamper that applies 25# if I remember correctly, and it makes a world of difference. Do NOT rely on the "auto-tamper" in the device. The "auto-tamper" is basically putting the powder in the cup, screwing the cup on, and letting the shower screen compress the powder. It makes for very bitter extraction.

4) Learn how much espresso powder to use. After filling with powder, tamping, and adding the puck screen, you don't want the cartridge to be full enough to cause any resistance when you attach it.

5) Use truly boiling water

6) Pre-infuse, by pumping 2-3 times, then let it stand for about 60 seconds before doing the full extraction.

Follow those guidelines, and you'll be very happy with the espresso you'll get out of this machine! I used to pack my espresso machine in the trunk of the car, and haul it along on vacation and road trips. Coffeejack has replaced it.

Negatives? It would be nice if the shower screen was designed such that the puck screen wasn't necessary. But it's a minor point. I used a puck screen on my home machine too. Second point would be that the plastic palm handle, that you use to pump the device, had a crack in it when the device arrived. They would probably replace it, but I've never pursued it.

Last one is a weird one: Until I read about a trick for getting the used puck out of the cup, I worried about damaging the device every time that I had to dig the puck out using a toothpick or spoon or scraping it out with my fingers. There is a better way! Simply unscrew the cup, turn it upside down, place it to your mouth, and blow into the valve that the coffee normally comes out of. The whole puck will eject cleanly and easily. Weird, but it works.

I can't really think of anything else.

Overall, a very nice device that produces good espresso once you master it.

CoffeeJack allows me to make enjoyable espresso coffee, simply & easily. A slow & steady pumping of the plunger, forces the added hot water through the basket of coffee: resulting in an espresso. Cleaning is straightforward, since the coffee is only in the basket, & the upper parts just contact hot water. A good idea, well-executed. Highly recommended.

I later ordered the well made stand & tamper, both of which have improved the experience.

I too, backed the CoffeeJack on kickstarter. While it took longer to arrive than anticipated, this is pretty much a 'given', especially for precision projects with multiple parts made from a variety of materials.

Despite the difficulty of the communicating the complexity a new product, the story of the the development has been one of the joys ofbacking this product. It has been fascinating to watch the process. Worth whatever cost the product may have.
