Poor Service and Worn-Out Bikes
We rented 9 bikes for four days from Ciclismoplus for our cycling holiday in Lucca, Tuscany. We rented 5 Canyon Endurance CF8 and 4 Scott Addict bikes. The bikes were delivered to the address we had agreed upon at the scheduled time. We had the bikes adjusted to our measurements, and everything was fine.
When we set off the next day, we noticed that the Canyon bikes were quite worn. The gears didn’t shift properly, and the brakes needed to be pressed hard before they engaged.
On Saturday morning, the gear cable for the rear derailleur on one of the Canyon bikes broke. We immediately called Ciclismoplus. Unfortunately, they couldn’t help us; one person was on their way to Pisa, and the other was in Siena delivering bikes. They suggested we go to a local bike mechanic to get the cable fixed.
After driving around for 2.5 hours to several different bike mechanics, none of whom had time to fix the cable, we gave up. This meant that one of us lost an entire day of cycling, which is a lot when you're only away for 4 days. Luckily, it was the last day.
When the bikes were picked up, we spoke with Max about the problem. He promised to talk to Gabriele (the boss) about a refund equivalent to one day's rental. After we returned home, we received a response from Gabriele. He couldn't understand why a refund was necessary since the bikes worked when he delivered them. We were offered a voucher for the amount instead, for our next rental. However, we can't use it as we won't be returning to this otherwise lovely area.
I would not recommend renting bikes from Ciclismoplus. The service is fine when everything is okay, but as soon as there's the slightest problem, they can't resolve it. And not recognizing there's a problem when the gear cable breaks after 4 days, and then refusing to give a refund is not acceptable.
My advice is to rent your bikes from someone else.
