Be warned dont do it. Worst experience I have had with a retailer. $8k on 3 blinds. 5 months to install. Falling apart in less than 2 years. They want $200 call out fee.
24/12/2024 Temporary installation of Plantation shutters
When the shutters were unpacked I noticed the shutters were the plain modern looking shutter without the visible tilt rod of the traditional looking shutter that I ordered. I stated they weren't what I ordered so I didn't want them installed because that would appear I was accepting them. The very nice gentleman pointed out that he had removed my shades, it was Christmas Eve, and they wouldn't be able to reorder the shutters until February as the factory was closed in January. He thoughtfully didn't want to leave me with an exposed window. So he called his boss and got permission to install the blinds temporarily until they could be replaced. So I agreed to that solution fully expecting that verbal agreement to be honoured.
17/2/2025 I called Burns for Blinds and spoke to the receptionist about replacing the shutters. She said she would have the salesperson call me about my shutter enquiry.
16/4/2025 I waited 2 months for a call. No call. I called Burns for Blinds
and explained my frustration and said I didn't want to deal with that salesperson.
23/4/2025 A week later that very salesperson turns up at my place. He said the shutters were fine. I told him they weren't what I ordered and they were temporarily installed…so not complete. He went on to say the tilt rod was only stapled on and they fell off easily. I said I didn't care, I still wanted the traditional tilt rod version. So then he went on to say the shutters couldn't be replaced because they were not making those anymore. I can still see the traditional plantation shutters with tilt rod are still available on the BforB website.
24/5/2025 After another month of hearing nothing, I typed a complaint to an auto person
on the BforB website.
26/5/2025. Received a call, in response to my online complaint, from a real customer service person.
He told me the company wouldn't change the shutters. He said my shutters did have a tilt rod…they were ‘hidden’. He said what i was talking about are called ‘central’ tilt rod.
I called back to state that the order form didn't specify ‘central’ or ‘hidden’. Besides I had shown a photo, taken from their website, of the central tilt rod I wanted....so no mistake would be made!
The customer service man came back stating the company would offer me $150 to keep the blinds, something he said the company never does. I told him I didn't want the money, I wanted the blinds I ordered.
28/5/2025 Received text from BforB stating how they value my business and will endeavour to finalise my order…..rework should be ready in approximately 1-2 weeks.
Have heard nothing since May 28, 2025. It's now November 11, 2025!
I'll be turning 85 next month and I really haven't the energy to take this any further....I had expected better behaviour /service / accountability....but to no avail.
I won't be recommending Burns for Blinds.
This company used contract fitters to install 3 Ziptrak blinds…there were number of defects on the install and I had to expend time and effort to get these addressed. The most significant issue was the ‘sagging and puckering at edges’ of the skins…..they did not reflect the ‘as advertised’ photos and as such failed the Australian Consumer Law test and Burns for Blinds claimed this was normal and to be expected
Following a long drawn out exchange of emails, visits by the Ziptrak inventor and 2 attempts at replacement skins and a facilitated mediation session I started a Minor Civil claim to receive a refund……..be aware if you do this it can be time consuming and difficult to navigate the South Australian court documents and process…..end result was a partial refund …..my message is to not give up fighting for your consumer law rights when dealing with with this company ….they are masters at taking your money and installing products that fail the Consumer Law requirements!!Buyer beware!!!
Burns For Blinds General manager- Mr Anil Ninan has said he proposed a necessary adjustment to ensure proper installation to the original item sold and paid for by the customer of a zip frame black out blind, but were then unable to do so as given the constraints of the pergola's existing structure.
This after the Burns for Blinds team had twice came out to measure and check, this after Burns For Blinds had recommended the more expensive blind, which was sold to the customer and paid in full by the customer.
The customer has stated that the only solution possible as you can't install the originally item sold, is a refund as they did not order the product that Burns For Blinds are now insisting on trying to install to make good,
Mr Anil Ninan- the Burns for Blinds General manager has also quoted
'Its a necessary adjustment to ensure proper installation given the constraints of the pergola, but never quoted this on the original sale and purchase, as the sales team quoted it will fit perfectly.
Under Australian Consumer Law (ACL), customers have the right to expect goods and services to be of "acceptable quality", meaning they are safe, durable, and free from defects, and fit for their intended purpose, allowing them to seek a repair, replacement, or refund if a product or service does not meet these standards; essentially, consumers have automatic "consumer guarantees" when purchasing goods and services in Australia.
The goods Burns For Blinds are now trying to install are not what was ordered by the customer, as quoted by Australian Consumers Law - " a refund if a product or service does not meet these standards;
Burns For Blinds You Are Not Above The Law.
Please Now Comply Respectful To Conclude Your Mistake To the Customer.
Burns For Blinds Are Now Not Returning The Customer's Calls And Standing By Their Decision of a new frame work to make good- The Customer would like any positive feedback on this from persons reading this.
Update on Burns for blinds.. May 2024...3years after roller shutter installed, They're breaking down regularly now.
On 10th October 2023 I accepted a quote from Burns for Blinds for 4 roman blinds and paid the deposit on same. I then had to contact in early November to find out when my blinds would be ready. I organized for installation and I paid in full on 9th November 2023. Since then the following has occurred:
Blinds to be installed on 10th November. Burns for Blinds were informed by phone that fitting would need to be in the morning as I had a funeral to attend at 1,30pm. The text I received in the morning of the fitting told me the fitter would attend between 1-3 pm. Therefore I had to cancel.
Reorganized fitting for 18th November but I had Covid 19 and therefore had to reorganize.
Fitter arrived on 1st December, as organized, He hung 1 blind and said he could not complete the job because red brick dust from his drilling holes would stain the blinds. He then left the other 3 blinds on my lounge room floor and departed. Also, the blind he fitted is not centered and will need repositioned. (Please note that these blinds are replacing existing blinds and there was no problem with brick dust when having the previous blinds fitted.)
I re-contacted on 5th December as no-one from Burns for Blinds had contacted me.
I was informed a fitter would come on 11th December. As I work this day this was not possible. It was suggested that I get some-one else to let the fitter in but given previous problems with the fitter I wanted to supervise the instalation.
The next date given 20th December. Text in the morning told me a fitter would attend between 4-6pm. I phoned to say I had an appointment at 5.45pm so fitter would have to attend before 5.30pm
Fitter did not come before I left at 5.30. I arrived back to a note saying fitter had attended at 5.30.
Response from management was a half hearted apology and I now have to wait until January for the blinds to be fitted.
Wish I could give them a zero. Started with their salesman not showing up for appointments. Once we had the $5,000 worth of Ziptrack blinds installed, they were horribly puckered and nothing like the taught blinds we were expecting that are on their website. The store manager had the skins replaced and the replacements were just as bad (or worse). I wrote to the CEO asking for help who sent the job to his General Manager. They then replaced the tracks. Still no joy. The GM said he was not happy with the blinds and wanted to get them sorted. He then arranged for the inventor of the Ziptrack system to come and have a look who said he doesn't know what else he could do to fix them. The GM's position suddenly changed from being not happy with the blinds to 'you have to expect some puckering'. He served up some garbage about the blinds needing to settle in over the warmer months. We know this isn't correct as the original skins were there over the summer and were still puckered. Obviously obfuscating to try and wriggle out of their Australian Consumer Law obligations to supply a suitable product and offer a full refund when they don't. Then offered us a $500 'goodwill gesture' refund. Awful company, awful product and awful staff and management. If this is their standard of service, I have no idea how this company has remained in business since the early 1950s. I regret ever having called them. If you ever decide to use them, don't believe them or their website when they tell you how fantastic their product is and that it won't be puckered. Time to approach the Commissioner for Fair Trading in South Australia to try and get an equitable resolution.
Really bad communication. Tradesmen were a no-show twice . Fitter then off sick so installation deferred. On fitting day, the product was wrong so have to wait another 2 weeks apparently. By the time installation happens, it will be the 6th appointment and this is only half the order. Still another blind to come. 11th March....Nothing happening.. Not a peep. It's been 2 months...25th March...Still nothing. May 3rd.. The farce continues.....May 10th ...Appointment for installation of amended blind.....Hooray....But wait...no. There are still problems and it's back to the factory with the newly "amended" blind. I keep thinking this is a test or joke or something. How could this company have been in business since 1953?. I am dreading the motorised roller shutter installation very much now. That's booked for 20th May.... May 22nd....Finally...Finished 2 days ago. I have their new slogan "We Don't Know How To Say Sorry"......Never again....... start early January to mid May finish
