Purchased budget direct for my brand new car they were good to me but on the expensive side until today. I travel rural roads for work. So knowing that I got excess for windshields. Had to replace 4 windshields in its life time thus far from 2024-2026 due to trucks hauling rocks. And a service provider rocking my chassis. They don’t want to renew my insurance due to my fathers vehicle being written off (truck him him, my dad was the victim) because he’s a registered driver in my car they’ve stated they won’t renew because of his claim even though he wasn’t at fault. They also want to take away my windscreen excess and make it $900 per claim now because of how many times my windshield has been shattered by others. I pay $3,700 a year in insurance, to just be told they want more money. Look somewhere else for insurance.
Absolutely terrible experience with Budget Insurance. They happily take your monthly payments, but when it comes time to honor a claim, they refuse to pay. If they aren’t going to cover you, why even let people pay for the insurance in the first place? Feels like a complete scam. I would never recommend them.
Not even deserved one star. Please don’t use travel insurance.

I am currently in an unresolved dispute with this insurer Budget Direct /Auto General following authorised repairs to my vehicle.
The core issue is that I did not receive what was quoted and authorised, and the insurer has been unable to provide evidence that I did.
The approved repair quote specified new replacement parts. However, the vehicle was returned with components that appear repaired or reused, including panels that show signs of panel beating rather than replacement. Despite repeated requests, I was not provided with a repair report, itemised invoice, part numbers, or confirmation that new parts were supplied.
The vehicle was also returned with ongoing and worsened issues, including electrical faults and alignment problems. When I raised concerns that the completed work did not align with the authorised quote, I was told I would need to fund independent diagnostics myself to establish causation — even though the insurer authorised and paid for the repairs without verifying completion.
This has left me with a vehicle that I cannot reasonably say was restored to pre-loss condition, and an insurer that appears unable to demonstrate that the quoted new-part repairs it paid for were actually delivered.
This matter is now with AFCA. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone with a complex claim to consider whether they are comfortable proceeding without clear proof that authorised new parts and repairs will actually be provided.
I was with my daughter in her car when we got a flat tyre on the M5 motorway on a Sunday morning.
She called Budget Direct Roadside assistance and we were told she would organise something and get back to us. We waited 30 minutes for the call back saying they are not going to send anyone to help change the tyre due to it being too dangerous.
I'm not physically capable of changing a tyre, neither is my daughter which is why she purchased this assistance.
We ended up calling a tyre changing service who arrived within 30 minutes.
Absolutely crap service from budget direct
Ik ben niet zo te spreken over deze budgetbeheerder. Krijg op vrijdag een mailtje dat ik 63,33 teveel heb betaald met direct de mededeling erachteraan dat het wordt verekend. Maar dat wil ik helemaal niet. Ik heb het geld hard nodig omdat ik met een insectenplaag zit. Daarop krijg ik een vage mail dat het bij boekhouder ligt en zij niet uit ksn keren. Ze heeft nog nooit gesproken over een boekhouder en ik heb niets te zeggen over mijn geld. Dit hoort ze met de klant bespreken. Nu zit ik het hele weekend + 3 dagen met een vlooienplaag door mijn kat dankjewel violetta en ook fijn dat je zo goed communiceerd in noodgevallen. Ik ben blij dat ik weer onder bewindvoering ga en dat de samenwerking binnenkort voorbij is. Ik geloof in karma en hoop dat je net zo'n prettige ervaring als ik zal hebben op dit moment.
