Very Disappointing Experience – Concerns About Transparency and Professionalism

I paid approximately £800 to Brand Vaughan Estate Agency NOW CHARTERS in connection with a buy-to-let property, with George handling my case.

A couple of weeks later, I discovered that the property could not be mortgaged. I believe this was crucial information that should have been clearly disclosed before any payment was taken.

When I requested a refund, it was refused. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the matter, my money remains outstanding, and I am now having to consider pursuing the matter through the small claims court.

What concerned me further was that, after I requested a refund, responses began coming from a different company name, which I understand included the name Charters However, George continued to handle the responses. Which I had no dealings with this other company, and the change in company name caused further concern and confusion.

Payment was made by bank transfer, and recovering the money has proved difficult despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue.

Overall, my experience has been extremely disappointing, and I have serious concerns about transparency, communication and professionalism in the handling of my case.

I would urge anyone considering Brand Vaughan Estate Agency / Charters for a buy-to-let investment to exercise caution, independently verify the property’s mortgage eligibility, and obtain written confirmation of all fees, company details and refund terms before transferring any money.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend this agency.

Charters has been great - the whole team, but I’ve been helped by Connor, mostly, and this is just to wholeheartedly commend him: he’s gone out of the way. He’s up to date with the details - professional, yet with old school charm, too. It’s always a pleasure to speak with him. I used to do much of the work myself, but now I just leave it, in the knowledge that Charters will handle things so well. It’s a relief and a joy to still find such service.

We dealt with the Charters letting team recently and although we rented a property from a different estate agent their team stand head and shoulders above others in our area.
Not only are they pleasant to deal with they most importantly are honest about what is happening in the market and very proactive in identifying rentals coming to market that suit our requirements. A big thank you to both Lily Mott and Michael McCormack who were a pleasure to deal with.

All staff at Charters are professional, very helpful and efficient. They really care about their customers.

Toby Rowe especially has been very helpful and really cares about and takes pride in his work. Toby really listens to his clients and is knowledgeable about the buying / selling of properties.

I would thoroughly recommend Toby to any prospective buyers or sellers.

Most recently, we experienced an issue with our front door lock. Thanks to her prompt response and excellent organisation, the problem was resolved the very next morning, with a new lock fitted and a new set of keys provided.

I did a series of viewings with Josh and he was great - friendly, honest and helpful. Charters were really easy to deal with and proactive at communication.

I am a wheelchair user looking for bungalow to adapt in order to move house. The search had numerous challenges but I felt completely supported throughout the search by agents Emma and Kevin from Charters in Fareham. They both took the time to really understand my needs and would call and update me when new potential properties came to market. It made a very stressful search for me bearable. I’m very grateful for all their support and would highly recommend them.

Communication was really good. Gary Hansford was extremely helpful and having him as a point of contact was great.

Charters have come on to a latter end of tenancy for me and I would like to put a shout out for three individuals that have most impressed me. Ethan Watts in Worthing who in his capacity of Property Relationship Manager is very knowledgeable on his subject has been very generous with his time in his dealings with me and a thoroughly nice chap too – the context being a difficult end of tenancy situation. Equally I have been most impressed with Craig Colbourne and Louise Blackmore (and a further unnamed colleague the other day) in the Southampton based Credit Control team. Again extremely pleasant individuals who clearly know their job very well, I have been particularly impressed with their levels of organisation in timetabling actions and keeping me closely informed on matters without any chasing from me.
