WARNING!!! KIERON MAGGS/BLINDS OF LOVE HAS A HISTORY OF TAKING A 50% ADVANCE DEPOSIT, THEN DISAPPEARING WITH THE MONEY, NEVER RETURNING TO DO THE JOB.
Do not be fooled by what seems like largely positive reviews (like we were). Look closer & you will find there are many customers over the past 12 months (please check social media page and other internet search engines) who have had the same experience we have, whereby large amounts of deposit money has been paid, only for Kieron to disappear & become near non responsive to customer contact attempts.
We paid a large 50% deposit on 28/05/24 & Kieron informed us it would be approx. 3-4 weeks to fit once we had chosen the colour on 12/06/24. This was the last time we saw Kieron. He made zero effort after this date to get in touch or keep us informed, my wife constantly chasing him for updates only to be met with silence. He did reply to a couple of my own text/VM messages after my wife asked me to get involved (he replied via text, never phoned) & he did eventually schedule a date to fit our blinds (2 months later than it should have been), but failed to turn up with no attempt to contact us. He did not reply to my text, email, or VM asking where he was, but still found time to post new content on social media the same day. He had disclosed at one point that his daughter was in hospital having major hip surgery, so we were of course very sympathetic about his circumstances & regardless of the reason, had been very patient with the delays & lack of communication to this point. After investigation, I found other customers had publicly commented on the BWL social media page that they were in the same situation - so I contacted these customers directly. They had also paid large deposits followed by silence & only intermittent replies from Kieron when chased. Screenshots were shared with me of text conversations between one customer & Kieron from a year ago - similar reasons were given for delays & no comms, but slightly different story (son in hospital & needing ongoing treatment, tools stolen from van), needless to say, these blinds were never fitted. Another customer I contacted was also told by Kieron his daughter was in ill in hospital, but different health reason to what he told us. Another customer was told it was his son having a hip replacement (not daughter). I feel ‘quite’ cynical & have lost all trust in him & his business. Regardless of his personal circumstances (if genuine), he is still legally obligated to complete the work people have paid him to do within the agreed timeframe, or to give a full refund. We are taking legal action to claim our £830 deposit back through the small claims court after contacting the citizens advice consumer helpline free.
They gave us advice & reported Kieron to trading standards on our behalf (who have the power to prosecute if there is evidence of criminality).
*UPDATE 21/08/24 - We have now received a full refund after being informed the business is being liquidated
