Really appreciate the friendly and obviously knowledgeable advice given taking our use-case and price bracket into account with no hurry or pressure. This would alone would have been enough for 5 stars but their willingness to help us out with our youngest family member was icing on the cake.

Top Floor Dan was really helpful! He knows his stuff and there were lots of discounts on. Definitely recommend this store!

Layla was attentive and gave excellent suggestions about size and fit. We are very pleased with our purchases and are ready for an adventure in Loch Lomand.

Back in to take advantage of the sale before the place gets "closed" (don't worry folks, the place is just getting rebranded as GO Express to sound more Happening with The Kidz and Stuffz ...) and to get some fresh t-shirts to cover my fat sweaty carcass for the warmer days (small hint, their togs may be more expensive, but that's because unlike their high street rivals their stuff lasts for years, as opposed to certain firms proving their environmental credentials by having clothing that 'biodegrade' after the first wash ...).

Regulars will be relieved to know Top Floor Dan - Black's answer to Seth Green - is still going strong. Years ago he said I could do with a new bag, to which I said "Prove it! Reveal to me the new bag I need to make my life complete!" One brief look inside my existing moth eaten effort and he pointed promptly to me the compact and bijou grey Montane with enough internal dedicated compartments and pockets to ensure a laptop, a tablet, a bottle of water, an emergency sugar crash drink, an A to Z of USB leads, cards, money, medicines, pens, pencils, flashlight, a USB power bank complete with solar panel for emergency charge that never actually works but its the climate change thought that counts, and a flip top flask of tea would not only be stored, but organised for ease of access ... and still have more than enough room to cram in three days groceries (six if all the packets are removed). Game, set and match. Either you get your bags from Dan, or you're so wrong about everything you could become one day the President of the United States.

TL/DR - I got stuff from Blacks, and I liked it.

I recently bought my first-ever pair of hiking shoes from Blacks, and I had a great experience thanks to Dan from the top floor. He spent around 30 to 40 minutes helping me out, patiently guiding me through the options and making sure I found the right fit. With his help, I ended up getting a really comfortable pair at a great discounted price. He also recommended some hiking socks, which I got to try on with the shoes, they were super comfy and made a big difference. Dan was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful throughout, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.

My partner needed some help with getting her new Osprey backpack to fit properly. Top Floor Dan sorted it out for her!
While we were there I thought I’d ask him to look at the fit of my Berghaus and he helped that fit better too!
He might just have saved our Hebridean Way adventure before it started!

I was having trouble with the fitting/adjustments on my back pack and upstairs Dan was fantastic - he made some adjustments to the fit of my heavy hiking backpack and now feels it feels so much better. It’s not digging into my shoulders anymore and feel a lot more confident we can tackle the Hebridean way and not cut it short by painful shoulders. So glad we went in and Dan was there able to help!

Great advice and service from Andrew when buying a new pair of walking shoes

I had to exchange a Rab jacket. Dan (top floor) He was brilliant, helping me choose a great replacement. He did such a good job, I bought an additional pair of walking shoes at the same time. In fact, all the staff were good. Fran helped make sure I knew my options and helped deal with all the exchange hassle

I was in the Glasgow Argyle st today 8.3.25. I was in as I had bought a jacket on a previous visit in December but had since discovered that the hood had frayed and became faulty.
I had taken it into the shop for them to look at it and either replace or send it away to be checked by quality control. But I was met by a very abrupt manageress who refused to give me her name when I asked only stating I’m the store manager, which I have since found out it was Fran. Refusing to give me any help saying the jacket had been pulled. Even blaming my washing machine. She asked for my receipt which I pointed out I didn’t have as the jacket was bought in December but I have the bank transaction showing the day and time it was bought again I was met by her very bad manners saying no use. I asked for customer services and she kept saying it’s online again no help in finding it or writing it down. She eventually asked a member of staff to get his personal mobile and get it for me. He gave me the number instead. I would absolutely avoid the shop.

Visited yesterday and today and dealt with 'Top-floor Dan' who was really helpful and showed a lot of patience with me !!!!

Andrew was extremely helpful, kind and professional. I came in to buy a pair of hiking boots and he quickly found me something in my size that fit exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciate how effortless the transaction was and I would 100% recommend Blacks!

The lady who served me, Frances Daniel, was so helpful. She helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Great price too. So glad that the store isn’t closing.
