Avoid Berry Cobham
New BMW IX3 called in for a recall. Been in and out of Berry Cobham for three weeks. Had to take it back in (issue still not resolved) two weeks ago. After sales were rude and abrasive. It’s an expensive car. Obviously it’s frustrating. I haven’t heard from them for a week now. They aren’t responding to my messages. This is not a serious company. Look for other options. Cars go wrong, that’s part of the process. But customer care and responsiveness should be a given at this price point. I have bought two new cars from Berry in a little over two years. You’d think that would count for something.
Exceptionally Poor Service
My 4 year old 2022 i3S (10,350 miles) went in for a waiting (2 hour) service which was basically a brake fluid change and new pollen filters with a complimentary wash. Three hours later I was provided with a health check video report stating that all 4 tyres were perished and needed urgent replacement.
On collecting the vehicle the in-car camera had been removed from the windscreen and left on the passenger seat. The driver's side floor mat was filthy with grease marks that still remain and the car hadn't been cleaned very well at all. I obviously wanted to speak with service to discuss the tyres which still have 6 months left on the 5 year manufacturers warranty. Anyone who has called Berry will know that getting through to the person you need to speak with is virtually impossible as it's a menu based system. I had no choice but to call BMW UK customer services who swiftly contacted Berry Cobham and after a short time I was put through to the female service advisor with whom I had been dealing with when the car was serviced and she informed me that she had been spoken to by her boss because I had left a 2/5 customer feedback score as part of BMW's automated survey system.
Within the survey I had mentioned her name - in a positive light I hasten to add - but had been honest about my experience and no I would not recommend Berry Cobham to friends or family. Her boss service manager Carl Barthram had apparently spoken to her in his office and she was quite upset at such a low score, so I asked her for his email details which she kindly provided as this was never about her personally, but my overall experience that day.
After speaking with BMW again I complained that I had wanted Mr. Barthram to call me which he hadn't. I then received a missed call almost 2 weeks later and a VM stating that he would be carrying out audits all week and may not be available to talk if I called back. I duly emailed him stating my complaint namely that the lady should never have been called in to his office and that i would like my tyres to be investigated as they should not be perishing after 4.5 years and that I would like this to be investigated via the manufacturers (whom I had also contacted) Bridgestone. After some time he emailed back stating that the terms of the warranty state that if a customer believes the tyres have a manufacturing fault they need to firstly pay for new ones - in this case via the dealership where I had bought the car - then all 4 tyres must be returned to Bridgestone for lab examination. Should a fault be found and a warranty claim agreed then there would be a pro-rata refund that relates to the amount of remaining tread. In my case the tyres have travelled 10,350 miles and the tyres have about 20% of the tread remaining which again I find to be absolutely astonishing after this very low mileage. Any refund would therefore be very little and given the fact that BMW charge far more for tyres than tyre specialists it would simply make no sense at all to continue with such a painful process. Looking on line as one does it would appear that these tyres were specifically developed by Bridgestone for the i3 and are different front to back.
The cause of the perishing in my humble opinion would be because UV has caused oils within the rubber to migrate thus causing shrinkage and this is almost certainly due to the type of rubber the tyres are made from - they are apparently "eco friendly" which I think is a little bit of a stretch when they need replacing after so little miles! I have other cars which have had tyres on for much longer and no issues have ever come about.
My experience of Berry Cobham therefore after investing time and effort to come to a favourable outcome with my tyres, is a particularly bad one. Add to this the complete lack of any genuine will to resolve an issue without the intervention of BMW UK - who are also in with the dealers because they buy their cars - and the result is a dealership who overcharge for a less than overage service - my opinion and one that will not be changing.
What a shame that the i3S is so brilliant - other than the tyres - but the after service is just shockingly shoddy! It's all about finance, recurring revenue, passing your card over the machine, taking payment and the dealership hoping that a customer such as myself goes ahead with extra work without questioning it. My local spit and sawdust back street garage who look after my older cars leave these people standing on almost every level.
Berry may offer coffee and people in suits will try and sell you "the dream", but they just can't deliver the type of service at a standard that I find to be acceptable and given their much higher than average prices that's astonishing.
So next time round I will go back to Mercedes-Benz Brooklands who have been consistently above average for 20 years.
A very difficult experience—and
A very difficult experience—and, in my view, an entirely negative one. The company was set to sell us a car priced at £86,000. Not a new one, mind you—a used vehicle. When I first called to ask if they sold cars for export, they asked whether payment would be made upfront or if financing was required. I explained that the people in Cyprus—where we intended to ship the car—were ready to pay via bank transfer immediately, provided the vehicle met their needs. I received an affirmative answer: yes, they do export sales; no problem at all.
The buyer expressed his intent to purchase the car and provided details of a company registered in his name in the United Arab Emirates... That was the end of the deal! The company refused to sell a vehicle worth nearly £90,000! We were shocked. No reasonable explanation was given; the only response was that, due to "company policy," they couldn't sell the car to us. It’s nonsense! After that, all attempts to contact them or find out what had happened were completely futile and fruitless.
In the end, we bought the exact same car for £10,000 less, handled the paperwork perfectly, and shipped it to Cyprus. To say that their "company policy" doesn't stand up to scrutiny is an understatement! Not a word of explanation from the company—it was like something out of a conspiracy theory. I would never want to deal with this company again. I’m sharing this for others to know: there is something wrong with their "company policy." It amounts to outright discrimination! A local can buy the car, but an overseas buyer can't! What else can you call it? DISCRIMINATION! But I’ll let you decide for yourselves.
Great people giving excellent service.
The service team at Berry Cobham are exceptional . Knowledgeable , helpful and courteous. They are also prompt and friendly which makes the experience a very good one.
Flat tyre post MOT…
MOT was fine and handled effectively-however, on picking up the car I noticed that the front left wheel was obviously fully flat! I was in a hurry but it took a further 20 mins to sort out (btw done efficiently by a mechanic who had not worked on the car) - apparently it was a valve issue that had been triggered by the service.
Bottom line - that’s not at all good . It should have been noticed in advance, it should have been addressed prior to my arrival , I should not have lost time ( as a result I was late for a personal app) and I should not have been told by one of the personnel that the only two possible reasons were either it had been damaged prior to me bringing in the car (!) or that it must have picked up a nail on the 50m from forecourt to workshop.
Super efficient and helpful team

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
What started out as a positive first impression ended in a very dissatisfying experience. Took possession of the car and noticed a vibration on the long drive home. Notified the sales person and advised I would have it looked at by a specialist wheel and tyre garage. Each wheel was between 10 and 15 grams out of balance which I thought may have been the case, but had it done at my own expense. Unfortunately the biggest contributor was the fact that both front tyres were deformed and despite plenty of tread left on them, they required replacing to cure the fault. I had the tyres costed (£250 each) and reported back to the dealership with the specialists findings and have had radio silence ever since. No call back, no email, no willingness to resolve the situation…. Nothing. So it seems all they wanted was the £5000+ commission and nothing else to do with actual customer service. Couldn’t recommend avoiding this dealership stronger, all used car sales pitch, no service or substance and should never represent the brand. The epitome of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. 0 stars weren’t available to rank unfortunately.
Scammers
They have had my £2000 deposit for 13 days and despite several requests for my refund they have not paid it. I have now had to report it as fraud to my credit card company.
I have never seen the car I wanted to test drive as it was at another branch. They said I had to pay a deposit to hold the car to test drive it. If I did not want the car or changed my mind I would get the full amount refunded.
Absolute scammers.
Over the moon!!!
After a long search, I finally found the perfect BMW X5, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
A huge thank you to Pete McEwan at BMW Berry Cobham. From the very beginning, Pete was patient, professional, and genuinely helpful throughout the entire process. My finance payout took a little while, but at no point did I feel pressured or rushed into making a decision. He gave me the time I needed and was always happy to answer any questions.
What really stood out was his honesty. I showed him other X5s I had been considering, some with air suspension, and instead of simply trying to make a sale, he took the time to explain the pros and cons of each option. He helped me understand why the X5 they had, with the Technology Pack Pro Plus and massage seats, was such a rare and highly specified car. It was clear he wanted me to make the right choice for my needs rather than just make a sale.
Pete’s communication throughout the entire process was absolutely first class. He kept me updated every step of the way, always replied promptly, and made the whole experience completely stress-free. When I collected the car, he didn’t just hand me the keys and send me on my way. He took the time to sit down with me and walk me through all of the technology, showing me how everything worked, including features on the BMW App that I didn’t even know existed. That level of customer service really made a difference and showed how much he genuinely cares about his customers.
The car itself is absolutely mint, and I’m genuinely over the moon with it. Looking back, I’m so glad I listened to Pete’s advice because I know I’ve ended up with the right car.
This has genuinely been the best car-buying experience I’ve ever had. My next car will definitely be another BMW, and without a doubt I’ll be returning to Pete McEwan at BMW Berry Cobham. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a BMW. If you’re after someone who is knowledgeable, honest, patient, and truly puts the customer first, Pete is the person to see. Thank you again for making the whole experience such a pleasure.
Excellent after sales service and car servicing
Even though we live in Cranleigh and it would be closer for us to go to the BMW dealership in Guildford we always prefer to go to the Berry BMW in Cobham because of the quality of the service and the attention to detail. Henry did a great job when I took my BMW X1 for servicing. He kept me informed and made good suggestions. Highly recommend.
A great no hassle experience in…

Excellent information and advice on new car purchase
Excellent information and advice on our purchase of a new BMW iX3 from the Sales Manager, Tom Kyriakides. Other staff were also very helpful.
Small dent on car
I purchased a used bmw m240i few weeks ago which is a fantastic car! Unfortunately, after cleaning it for the first time recently, I noticed a slight dent and a scratch on the rear near side wheel arch. I spoke to sales about it and they said it was nothing to do with them which I find very hard to believe as they had already acknowledged the scratch on the day of purchase! After several emails I am nowhere near to getting this rectified. Now I am about to shell £330 to get this sorted privately! Disappointed
awful experience
I have a chip/crack on my windscreen and drive to them for help. The lady told me they don't replace windscreen I shall talk to my insurance company. Then I showed her the insurance I got from BMW when purchased the car, she said they may not cover it without looking at it. I then asked if they could have a quick look at the issue and told me how serious it is and if I can still drive a bit, she refused and said "what we see is what you see". I then told her I don't have the knowledge to tell if it's okay to drive and need some advice. She still rejected and she said they won't give advice, and even if someone look at it, they'll say to get it fixed asap. Okay, maybe she is right. But the attitude is arrogant and communication is awful.
