We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.
Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.
However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

Very impressed with the service
Very impressed with the service, care and kindness I received from my recent eye check up. From my initial enquiry after receiving a email reminder, appointment booked very efficiently. On arrival the front of house team ( sorry I don't know their names ) both the ladies very friendly and welcoming. I had my eye appoint with Aashni Amin who was very professional, polite friendly and took the time to explain everything in detail after reviewing my results from the test. Thank you to all the team at Barracloughs Battle for your care, kindness and great service.

When I arrived for my appointment
When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted with a very friendly hello from the receptionist and also from whom I assume was a trainee, everything was explained and I completed the forms with ease. I then sat and waited for Nuleen to call me in for my examination...right on time I must say. I immediately felt relaxed as she was so professional and was very thorough and explained the process. I am very grateful for the way everyone respected me during my visit. Thankyou.

I wasn't kept waiting. The eye test was very good and was explained to me clearly. Choosing new frames was easy and I was given clear and constructive advise.

Excellent professional service
My wife and I have been having our eyes tested regularly by Stephen Fowles over many years and he always provides an excellent professional service. It is also good to have such long continuity as Stephen fully knows our vision history. All of the other staff always give us both a friendly, welcoming and efficient service. Well done.

Great Opticians
I have used this firm to care for my eyes for over 30 years...they diagnosed my glaucoma early and referred me to the hospital for prompt treatment. I have also been impressed by the service and all the staff lovely. The new optician I saw a couple of days ago was efficient and informative it was a pleasure to have my eyes checked. I would only use this firm and would thoroughly recommend them.

Individual and empathic care
I was so grateful to be treated as a valued individual - sadly rare these days.
I reported sudden blurred vision, and was very promptly referred to the NHS. The problem turned out not to be an emergency, but it could have been, and was taken very seriously, potentially saving precious time.
I just want to say thank you for the thorough, and empathetic treatment I’ve been given, (and all with a warm smile!).
