Came across this shop for the first time recently after years of visiting York. Staff were just unpacking tile topped bistro tables, and I fell instantly in love with a beautiful green table and matching chairs. We were staying a bus ride out of York so taking it with us wasn’t an option. The gentleman serving us immediately offered delivery to Chesterfield by DPD at a fantastic price. This arrived 2 days later. A faultless service by fantastically helpful staff. My new favourite shop!

Barnitts as a store is great, but as a delivery service this was a complete disaster. They didn't even try to deliver my goods until 11 days after I ordered them when I chased them up. All the items were in stock on the website and I paid for a 3-5 day royal mail delivery.

It seems that when I chased they drove round with a van and gave my goods to a neighbour because I supposedly wasn't in. I am disabled and never go out. My posties know that neighbour is untrustworthy and would not have left my goods with them.

I heard nothing for another week and the royal mail tracking number they gave me said they had still not received it. I chased again. They claimed to have spoken to 'royal mail' and that RM had given it to my terrible neighbours. Even though there had been no card to say so.

I had to knock on my neighbour's door 6 times, but finally I got them to answer and received my goods, which had apparently been there for more than a week, and were handed over in an open box.

The web sales team now say they had always said it was a man with a van who delivered it, but this makes the claim to have talked to Royal Mail make no sense.

It's a real shame. Barnitts is a great store, but their delivery service is clearly not safe, secure, or fit for purpose.

We found garden furniture online that wasn't available locally to us or with any other company for national delivery. The Barnitts store is more than two hours away and only offers local delivery or store collections. We spoke with Louis who had exceptional service from start to finish and was so helpful! He arranged for a courier to deliver the items to us even though this wasn’t usually an option, checked the products himself to ensure they were securely packaged and kept in touch the entire time to make sure we had received our delivery. We can’t thank Louis enough and we wouldn’t hesitate in purchasing from him again!

Had great customer service in store which led to me purchasing a light. Was advised I would received this in 3 days and paid for delivery to that effect. Nearly a month later I am still am waiting for a light, had no response to my multiple emails to date and took two weeks to speak with someone on the phone. No one responded to my voicemails and only answered after frequently calling for several days in a row. Entirely unhelpful, still no light and not even and acknowledgment or apology. Really disappointing after what was a great instore experience and sadly would now never buy from this store again. I’m concerned my light will never materialise at this point.

Well stocked shop, a pleasure to browse. Staff always friendly. Highly recommended.

Always friendly and good customer service - a refreshing change from some other establishments

We placed an online order on a Friday and used the online price match facility, paid and received an order confirmation. On the Monday we received an email stating that they could no longer price match the two other online sites we supplied as a requirement of the price match. If we wanted we could have the item at their full price. We have bought a number of lights and tools from their shop in York and thought we would help local businesses where possible. Now we have to wait for the refund to go through. Won't be using them again.

Excellent customer service definitely 5 star! I ordered two light fittings which came direct from the manufacturer, one of which was damaged on arrival due to packaging. Mike at Barnitts arranged a replacement immediately but sadly that too was damaged and again Mike immediately arranged another replacement which thankfully was perfect. He dealt with my issue both times so very quickly and kept me updated throughout on new delivery dates. In the current situation where companies are often working with reduced staff I was so pleasantly surprised to receive such excellent customer service.

My mothers old shopping trolley broke recently and so I ordered her a new one. I decided to go for something of better quality and I found the Rolser Pack Folding Shopping Trolley 2 Wheel - Red to looks quite good. Made in Spain and plenty of space for groceries etc. I made an order on the 30th of October and the delivery came via DPD today on the 4th of November. Speedy delivery, everything was perfect. The only complaint is the excessive packaging in the big box, it had other boxes folded inside. I guess it's to prevent the trolley from sliding around and getting damaged during transit. Other than that, brilliant and very happy with my purchase!! Very sturdy design and she loves it. It's got a back pocket and also a pocket in the inside. 5/5
