Terrible customer service

Terrible company who have not started to threaten my wife with a bill even though after repeatedly telling Barings not to continue with her case because they asked for direct access to our bank account which no reasonable company would do.
She has repeatedly phoned and emailed but they ignored all requests to discontinue and are now starting to make threats, disgusting behaviour from this company.

I am sorry to hear that your wife has been dealing with this issue regarding fees for her claim.

I have submitted an information request via Trustpilot, can this please be completed with your the contact details your wife used on her claim. I will then locate her file and have this matter investigated for you.

However, I would like to hopefully reassure you on a couple of matters regarding your review. For some claims, we need to review the financial evidence of our claimant, this helps us identify if a client was not suited to an agreement given to them by a lender - we only obtain read-only access to bank statements and nothing more. We cannot view anything beyond the financial months/years we need and cannot view payment details or make any amendments. However, if your wife is concerned about this method, we also accept physical copies of the bank statements.

For fees, we have a 14-day period in which claimants can opt out. After which, fees may be applicable for the work conducted on a case if someone wishes to cancel their claim before it reaches its conclusion. This will be detailed in the agreement signed by the client when starting a claim. Having said this, I can understand your concerns and worries, particularly if you feel as though the communication is threatening. I wholeheartedly apologise if the language and tone used is not appropriate.

If you could please respond to the information request as soon as possible, I will arrange for this to be looked into and your wife to be contacted to work on a resolution. Alternatively, please call our office on 0161 200 9960.

Still harassing me

Yet again I have been contacted by this company. Months ago a begged them to leave me alone and they still continue to hound me. The stress this company has put me under is unbearable. I can’t stress enough how I don’t want to to continue to harass me. Leave me ALONE!!!!! Remove everything about me from your website. I do NOT want you acting on my behalf!!

Communication Mishap

For the first time since the Capita breach claim started I have become concerned. Yesterday I look in my spam email and it appears that an email from them and a subsequent one from Abbleys solicitors went there. I have now read them and it appears that my case has transferred to Abbleys and have been asked to sign a new agreement. Firstly, I am concerned that both went to my spam email and that I didn't have an opportunity to ask any questions prior to the transfer. Secondly after reading the new agreement, I am unclear as to whether there is a possibility that I could incur a net cost in the event of worst-case scenario given the new terms. I also don't know that if I asked for the case to not transfer and not continue whether that I could have just ended it there with no cost to me and parked the stress that this is generating (by fearing that there could be a net cost as a worst-case scenario). I try to avoid stress/anxiety and actively do so for health reasons. I have sent an email to Abbley's yesterday trying to get clarification on the new agreement. Barings - are you able shed any light on this please? I have put a two-star rating for now for this communication mishap. Today I have upgraded this to a 4 star in light of this response. I will look to contact Barings on this but am awaiting a response from Abbleys first to an email I sent them. For now I am happy with the response here from Barings and will update my review rating in due course if this is merited,

I can confirm that cases have been transferred to Abbleys. This is due to the lead solicitor working on your claim taking an opportunity with that firm. Due to the solicitor's experience with your claim, it was in the best interest to keep it with him. Having said that, I understand your frustration in not being able to have the opportunity to be able to ask questions or share any concerns you may have with us, or Abbleys, before the transfer.

Avoid like a dose of the proverbial clap

Sorely disappointed with these chancers.

Have been waiting eons for the Capita data breach claim to come to fruition.

Suddenly after the Judge's decision notes got posted they've washed their hands with it and a senior partner (with their blessing apparently) had without MY permission taken the case files to a new firm and today I get an email inviting me to sign a new agreement.

I got Claude AI to read the judgement and give a summary - surprise surprise both Barings botch job and Crapita have had their *rses handed to them on a silver server by the judge - Barings for being zealous with their terminology of client harm "traumatised" was one verb used and Crapita got a good kick in the balls for trying to get it thrown out.

Now Barings know they're not going to get top tier payouts for the breaches - claimants will be lucky VERY lucky to get 1k before fees and expenses, (if that) so guess what?

Everyone's going to be getting a cake and bus fare home. Well done Barings - Well done 🤬 now 💩 in your hands and clap you pathetic useless lot.

I'll post Claude AIs response below. Top tip - if you were planning a cruise based on the proceeds of the claim don't bother. W⚓️s.

Don' touch Barings with a barge pole - complete chancers and a waste of bloody space.

JUDGEMENT ANALYSIS

"Here's a thorough summary of what the judgment says:

The case: Spurgeon & Ors v Capita plc [2026] EWHC 241 (KB), 9 February 2026
Around 4,000 claimants (represented by Barings Law) brought compensation claims following the 2023 Capita data breach, which exposed the personal data of 6.6 million people. Capita tried to have all the claims thrown out.
What Capita argued
Capita claimed Barings had committed an abuse of court process by "putting words into the claimants' mouths" — specifically using emotive language like "tormented," "violation of security," and "betrayal of trust" in the Particulars of Claim, words that hadn't come from the claimants themselves. Capita argued this had so tainted the evidence that all claims should be struck out.

What Master Dagnall decided
He refused to strike the claims out. His key reasoning was that pleadings are drafted by lawyers, not clients — they are not witness statements or evidence. Each claimant will still need to provide their own witness statement, and it's on that evidence the case will ultimately be decided. He found that Barings had done nothing wrong, and that solicitors have wide latitude in how they formulate a client's instructions into a pleading.
He did however express concern about some of the language — noting that words like "tormented" are vague and could mean anything from mild annoyance to serious mental anguish. His provisional view was that such language should be replaced with something more precise, like "varying degrees of substantial anxiety and distress." This will be resolved at a subsequent hearing.
What this means going forward
Capita essentially admitted that claimants may have genuine claims at some level, even if not necessarily at the £1,000 per person Barings is targeting. Now that the strike-out has failed, Capita faces a choice: contest each individual claim (very costly) or settle. On top of this, Capita was already fined £14 million by the ICO over the breach"

I’m sorry to hear how frustrated and unhappy you’re feeling about the way your claim against Capita has been handled. I completely understand how difficult it can be when a case takes time and things change along the way.

I’d like to first explain the change regarding your solicitor. The solicitor who has been handling these data breach cases has recently taken up another opportunity. However, because of his expertise and in-depth knowledge of these particular claims, it was felt that it would be in clients’ best interests for him to continue handling the files. This was also at his request, as it avoids the need to transfer your case to a new solicitor and potentially cause further delays.

We did send an email on 12 March to explain this change and to give you the opportunity to let us know if you did not want to accept the move. I’m sorry if this wasn’t clear or if it added to your frustration.

In relation to the recent judgment, I understand your concerns about the language used. While this was raised by Capita as part of their argument, Master Dagnall did note that the statements had been amended and approved by each claimant. I do appreciate how frustrating the length of time has been, but please be assured that the legal team has been working hard to respond to and overcome the challenges raised throughout the case.

I also want to reassure you that your case remains with the same legal team, and your agreement terms have not changed. The only difference is the name of the firm managing the case.

I have submitted your request for further information, and once this is received, I will arrange for someone from the new firm to contact you directly. They will be able to introduce themselves, explain how your case will continue to be handled, and answer any questions you may have about the recent hearing.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

BARINGS LAW have been trying for the last 3 years for mis sold / affordability my case got rejected last August 2025 , after being THREATENED with bills for they work so far , jumping through hoops getting 2016 credit files , sharing my bank statements etc etc , so fast forward to yesterday they want me to sign another authorisation when I refused and told them I thought this case was closed they AGAIN STARTING THREATING ME WITH BILLS IF I DIDNT !!! now I’ve been advised to ask for a full break down of works that had been done on my case so I can forward it to CAB ….

PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THESE COMPANIES !!!
