Awful patient care and lack of responsibility
I took two of my dogs to Banfield, off Mercantile Ave in Albuquerque, this month for dental work. Both boys needed extractions and both vets were great about calling me and letting me know what was up. I paid my bill and started my hour long trek home to Santa Fe. A dental cleaning alone starts at $700 - $1000 in Santa Fe so I took them to Banfield because they start at half as much. Well…you get what you pay for. The whole ride home, Wyatt kept winning and licking his leg. I was driving and couldn’t really turn to see but I figured he was just ouchy from the tooth extraction. When we got home, blood was pouring, literally, from his leg. I immediately pulled the plastic and bandage off to find the catheter was still in him. I pulled it off as best I could and thankfully that stopped the bleeding. He later puked a bunch of blood. Now I am at the emergency vet because I am worried part of the catheter may still be in there. I sent pictures to Banfield but no one has responded. To add a bit of insult to injury, when I picked them up, they gave me meds for Wyatt but told me Albie did not need any. About halfway home, they call me to tell me they had forgotten to give me Albie’s meds…meds I specifically asked about and was told I didn’t need.
I don’t care how good your doctors are or how friendly the staff is. If this is the standard of care, overlooking something as basic as taking a catheter out before you let a patient go home…I can’t in good faith recommend this place to any one, and I am never coming back. I’ll save my pennies and take them somewhere they will be looked after with a little more care. The doc put it on the staff, and I get it. But they are also your patients, and if your staff is not up to par, it your job to check on your patients before you discharge them. I am beyond upset. This sort of stuff, and after a $2000 bill, is woefully unacceptable. They’re acting like this was no big deal so I can’t help but think things like this happen often at this clinic.
