Panasonic Microwave with VAT added
Panasonic Microwave with VAT added. Looked new. Plate and roller ring still in the bag.
Lifted out the plate and there had been a fire. The paddle was melted and carbon was widespread.
Would do nothing for me. Was told buyer beware.
Selling unsafe items which have been fire damaged is underhand.
The company who put this in to auction also have no morals.
Absolutely fantastic customer service…
Absolutely fantastic customer service the young gentlemen (sorry don't know their names) one very tall and one short were so incredibly helpful in loading my sofa etc into my car, I'm sorry I didn't have any cash to leave them a much deserved tip so I'm leaving them a five star review instead. Sale room 3 is where I bought my furniture I will be back for sure. Thank you very much for a truly enjoyable experience.

I have used this company for years and…
I have used this company for years and have spent thousands of pounds with them, office staff very helpful. Now here comes my grump, some months ago purchased American fridge freezer that was warranted as working on website, sale room staff said it was working when I called them. I Won bid for £70 paid £60 delivery, didn’t work, scrap, had to pay council £20 to collect and dump it. Got my £70 bid money back but lost £80 end of day on delivery and council collection. No apology basically from this company.
Spoke to management and said just because you plug and appliance in and it lights up it doesn’t mean it works, do due diligence before you warrant it as working.
Same happened with log splitter some time later, didn’t work wen sale room staff said it did.
Yesterday I bid and bought Salter scales with full set of weights in photo on website, when scales collected 1 Weight was missing. I’m sad to say this company is starting to slip into John Pye category (check out JP reviews)

Absolutely lovely helpful staff…
Absolutely lovely helpful staff members.. A young gentleman named Jack was so polite and very helpful in loading my purchases I have to give him 6 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💪🏽Thank you I'm really enjoying this fantastic auction house .
Top service
Having bought my goods I asked for a shipping price, the next day I got a call giving me the shipping price and telling me they had called instead of email so that they could get the items to me ahead of the next Royal Mail strike, service above and beyond what I expected
Dubious shipping practices.
I bought three paperback trade catalogues from Arthur Johnson for £20. We spoke to someone regarding postage and said that there was no urgency for dispatch as we would be away from home for a week. We were told that they would send it second class for around £6.00 This subsequently increased to over £13.00, with a denial of the previously agreed arrangement.
When the package arrived I was astounded to find that they had been packed in a large cardboard box with a bit of bubble wrap, a piece old polystyrene and more astonishingly, a smelly old piece of net curtain. For which I was charged £7.00. This was far in excess of what was necessary. It would have been more appropriate to have sent them in a large envelope, at a second class rate of £2.70. Instead I have been charged for Tracked 24 at £4.20 plus the exorbitant charge of £7.00 for a second hand cardboard box and some random bits of stuffing.
Beware of Arthur Johnson’s dubious shipping practices.
Prices too high. Damage not reported. Poor quality photography.
Prices were very competitive during lockdown but now being priced way too high to make any decent profit and then they add on VAT putting prices close or above retail (if buyers done their homework).
Some obvious damage not picked up or photographed by the team. Really poor quality photography also - no excuse now we have modern smartphones with excellent resolution.
Then the entrance to the rear of auction houses 1,2,3 is absolute dreadful and has damaged several of my wheels and tyres due to huge potholes that someone could easily fill in with minimal cost and effort.
Some good items at times but prices must remain low to be competitive.

A Nottingham landmark.
Having been a regular client of Arthur Johnson's for almost four decades to date, indeed since the days of the last of the Johnsons still auctioneering in person, I feel qualified to offer my thoughts on this wonderful Nottingham institution.
Arthur Johnson's has long been the largest auction centre in the East Midlands, having outlasted many rivals along the way. The fact that it still remains at its core the same institution that I first experienced as a child accompanying parents in the mid-70s is wonderful in itself, in a day and age when most of the beloved Nottingham institutions have become only memories over recent decades.
That's not to say that Arthur Johnson's hasn't kept up with the times, with upgrades and expansions to bring it smoothly into the demands of the 21st century whilst losing none of its charm. I now have the option of dashing frantically in and out of multiple auction rooms (five operate simultaneously) chasing various lots of interest and trying to figure out how quickly the individual auctioneers are moving, or I can now sit in the comfort of a chair at home running multiple televised auctions simultaneously and trying to keep my partner's itchy finger from hitting the red 'bid' button too often!
But the real experience will always be in the hustle and bustle of five busy auction rooms selling thousands of lots on a Saturday morning and early afternoon, surrounded by an eclectic street market and car boot sale among other additional attractions. I find a particular joy in never knowing what quirky item might appear at any time, that I never knew I 'needed' until I saw it! I probably bought most of the victorian harmoniums and reed organs auctioned in the '90s at AJs and I'm still wondering why! The whole atmosphere of a live auction is a world apart from the likes of Ebay which offer a rather soulless and remote experience in comparison.
I have seen many staff at Arthur Johnson's come and go over the decades, but they have all been unfailingly professional, friendly and helpful. On the very rare occasion that there has been a glitch in things it has always been dealt with promptly and efficiently, something that can't be claimed by most modern institutions.
Arthur Johnson's has been in business since the 19th century and I would like to think they'll still be around in the 22nd. I can't recommend them enough!
New Lenovo Laptop
I purchased a new (VAT added) Lenovo Laptop from this Company in May 21.Within a week it had had failed and required a new part at cost of £190. I asked the company for comment but never even got the courtesy of a response. I have since removed myself from their mailing list and would advise against purchasing electrical items from them, simply not worth the risk as any repairs will not be under warranty.
Great bargains,great staff!
I would highly recommend buying from Arthur Johnson! I have just discovered the joys of auction rooms and AJ has been great! Lots of bargains especially in the antique sections and the staff I have dealt with are lovely.Their MD Phil Poysner is a delight and a true gent. If you enjoy how auctions work and looking for some lovely items for the home, give it a go.Thanks again to AJ, can't wait to buy again.Mrs Taaffe Sutton Coldfield .
Its great that Arthur Johnson take…
Its great that Arthur Johnson take suitable steps to protect customers from Covid but would be even better if they made the same effort to protect buyers from bidding for product that does not work... more than 50% of the electrical items listed appear to omit the suffiX 'W' (indicating they are in working condition) included in the product description leaving one to conclude, perhaps justifiably that one should avoid bidding.
This could also indicate a decline in customer relation ship interest and would be a shame if the company adopted similar standard to the other major auction house in the city

Surprised and very disappointed ...
Surprised and very disappointed in Arthur Johnson’s attitude towards the current pandemic. Not only in the encouragement of people to break the lockdown rules in order to collect items, but also blatantly taking advantage of peoples (legally bound) inability to travel, to charge exorbitant prices for delivery of them.
My wife and myself have been regular attendees at the auctions over the past few years, always finding it an interesting and enjoyable experience, so we were quite pleased to find that on line auctions had been able to continue during the lockdown, and I assumed within lockdown rules and guidelines.
In this weeks auction I bought a couple of cheap, and very small, dress rings. When I followed up with a call to arrange collection as advised, and explain that obviously we I could not actually attend (it’s hardly an essential journey) I was advised that in the circumstances my items could be posted to me, at an estimated cost of £15 !! It was further explained that this cost was made up of £6 (yes, SIX) for a small Jiffy bag, plus the remaining £9 for labour/administration and VAT !
To be fair, I was also advised that as the items were small they could be held for me until I had the opportunity to collect them, but at the end of the day the choice was “either pay up, or risk your health and wealth (ie. the risk of a fine) to collect your items in defiance of the government guidelines “ Hardly an ethical approach Arthur Johnson !
