After the death of a close friend through a prolonged episode of cancer, I decided that I needed to change my Will to leave something behind to cancer research. I have made a will about four years ago, and so just really needed a codisil writing for this. On the cancer research website there was a list of solicitors in Leamington Spa who would do this for me at no cost. I phoned up Alsters Kelley in Leamington, to inquire about this. I enquired about the process, and the receptionist I spoke to explained that cancer research actually paid a fee for this process on the basis that they would receive a legacy, which I thought was fair enough. I then (maybe a little cynically, although later turned out not to be) enquired as to whether the service was the same quality as if I was paying directly, to which she replied, yes. She booked me an appointment for a one hour consultation in a weeks time with xxx (I have decided not to publish his name) I then went on to enquire about power-of-attorney, as I wanted to arrange this as well, through the same solicitor. I asked another question about future codicils, and the receptionist put me on hold. When she came back, she informed me that xxx was in fact “one of the directors” of the company, and did not take appointments for “free” Wills as his fees were above the amount cancer research paid for this, although, I could pay his fee if I still wished to see him as he did do wills. Alternatively, she could make me an appointment with one of the junior associates. At this point I cancelled my appointment.

Taken a no win no fee, run out the clock and dropped the claim to claim on the insurance.
Even though the party at fault was dead to rights, with video evidence and admitted responsibility, just dropped it leaving me in the the lerch after 2yrs.

They have no interest in winning cus they insure the claims. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
