Provided a flexible service, very responsive to emails and phone calls. They resolved an issue with the billing immediately and that only occurred because they offer an overnight collection when available which was extremely useful for our move. The van was in good shape and the team were all nice people offering a good value service.

Used 3 times now since the bad time with udrive and been excellent. Had to move it for a couple of days as ill, no problem and I booked for the wrong day, again no problem. Van checks are solid and honest with joint walk around. Vans new and solid. Staff very friendly.

I will say, up front that Abacus Vehicle Hire acted within their legal and policy framework. I cannot dispute that. However, it is this legal and policy framework that they hide behind to justify what I have experienced to be a terrible approach to customer care and service.

I hired a cargo van for the weekend to clear my house. The booking process was simple enough and the staff on reception were pleasant. As I collected my van, the staff member handing over scrolled through the documentation which included the defects spot map. There were a lot of reported defects, mostly to the bodywork and trim. The staff member rushed past this bit and told me not to worry about the defects and that there would be too much to go through, knowing I had to get away to drop off my 10 year old step-daughter at school and get to work. I signed the box at the bottom, which turned out to be my major error. I'll put hands up to that.

In the course of the hire, a crack developed on the windscreen, which was identified on the hand back. Abacus rang me to inform they would need to replace it and I would be held liable for the cost.

They informed me that the cost of replacement was £843. I'd already paid a £200 deposit so would have to pay £643 on top of the deposit, the £243 pounds for the hire and the £100 of diesel I'd put in to the van - totalling over £1000 costs. No itemised bill for the windscreen was sent to me.

I went back to check the documentation. The defects report showed a chip in the windscreen, which was in the same location that the crack developed. Again, I accept it was my liability but it made clear their attitude to customer care. They could have had the chip repaired for a max cost of £70. The company chose not to, simply because they didn't legally have to. Instead, they were happy for a customer, who had hired their vehicle in good faith to incur a major cost.

When I pointed out the above over the phone to them, their response was...."I'm sorry you feel that way".

Again, Abacus did nothing wrong legally but future customers deserve to know this company's lacklustre approach to customer care. Leave yourself plenty of time to take over their vehicles and be diligent when checking defects.

I hired a 7.5t truck from them on behalf of my son to move house and found the staff to be really friendly and helpful, was given a full rundown of everything I need to know and the truck was spotless and in really good condition. Pickup and return was so easy with no fuss and the deposit was returned within 24 hours. Would highly recommend hiring from here 👌

Today l purchased my used Ford Connect Limited van from the folks in Andover.
Cannot fault the service l received from start to finish. Josh who managed the viewing and the sale was outstanding and totally honest with me. On collection the Connect was presented immaculately and was also fully serviced.
Not easy to please a fuzzy fit like me but these guys knocked it right out the park.
Anyone looking for a used vehicle please check out their stock, you will not be disappointed. Very friendly team down there.

Outstanding !

We hired with a try before you buy with a view of obviously buying from Abacus.

We had an awful experience with another hire company and we were dubious about trying it out again but I have only heard good things about Abacus so we decided to give them a go.

We looked around and found a motorhome that we liked and hired a similar model, we hired it for the weekend and we soon found out that it wouldn’t work for us.

After the hire we went back to look at one we would like to buy, we looked at all of the stock and found one that was absolutely perfect.

And we bought it !

I have to say that the whole team were absolutely fantastic, right from when we hired, all the way through to buying it.

The hire handover was second to none and we had all the information we needed for our weekend away.

What can I say about the team with the handover day.

We had a two hour time slot (it could have been a 10 hour slot and it wouldn’t have been enough).

It was thorough and extensive we had a great afternoon and had a good laugh.

I did have a thought after the handover, what if you could do a video of the process and then you could send it to the purchaser it would be a great reference point.

We love our new motorhome and have been away every weekend since.

Purchased another vehicle from Abacus Vehicle Hire, wonderful people to deal with, would highly recommend this company

Unfortunately we would have given them 5 stars but due to issues we experienced we feel 3 is fair.
They fully admitted to the errors that were caused due to lack of communication with staff and us as the Customer but didn’t really improve our 5 night booking.
Really amazing showroom in Andover and the staff we dealt with Josh and Mae a credit to the Company!

Holiday saved by real-life heroes — Abacus Car Hire to the rescue!

We found ourselves in a nightmare scenario — having hit a deer at 01:45 on our way to catch the ferry to France, our car was a write-off. Our travel insurance helpfully informed us they’d only cover "onward travel" (not nearly as helpful as it sounds).

To make things worse, every major car hire company we called refused to help — apparently cross-border hires require 72 hours of paperwork, even in emergencies.

Just as panic started to set in, my wife found Abacus Car Hire in Andover on Google. She called and explained the situation, and a true legend named Mark calmly said he’d “see what he could do.”

Within 10 minutes, Mark called back with a solution. They could help — and they’d get the car ready immediately so we could collect it before their 2pm Saturday closing.

On arrival, Mark, Steve and Tony were kind, efficient, and an absolute pleasure to deal with. They made a stressful situation feel manageable and even managed to put smiles on our faces before we hit the road (a little later than planned, but holiday saved!).

The car was immaculate, comfortable, and ran perfectly. The deposit was returned almost immediately — no chasing, no hassle. And when we returned the car at 07:30 on a Sunday morning, Tony was there to greet us with a smile

Abacus didn’t just hire us a car — they genuinely rescued our trip. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

Love this company, over the years hired a very wide range of various vehicles, their help, advice and the most friendliest of people, Jaie, Sophie, Chris, Lisa, Rosie and well absolutely all of them, to be honest means I would say GO NOWHERE ELSE EVER, if you require a hired vehicle. FACT.

I booked on-line to hire a van for two days this week. The instructions were easy to follow. The pick-up was painless and the gentleman was polite and informative regarding my hire. I had made a minor mistake on my booking which was quickly corrected and the Van was ready very quickly. Drop off was easy and speedy. I had left my car at the site and I was confident it was safe for the two days I was away. Payment was simple with the only minor down side was the refund of the deposit taking 3-5 working days. I would still give the company a 5 star review and highly recommend them as a hire company.

The 2 gentlemen on the front desk today were 100% professional and a credit to Abacus. Courteous ,smart and professional.

Hired a car transporter from the team in Ferndown. Super helpful and friendly staff and the car transporter was excellent. Included winch and four straps and the transporter did hundreds of trouble-free miles with good power and excellent handling. Genuinely a great experience and would highly recommend.

I needed a short wheelbase van to pick up a motorbike. I called up the office and few hours later I picked up the van. They gave me a 73 plate Transit with very low miles which was a pleasure to drive (nice and clean).
The staff was very helpful and quick with the paperwork. This was the first time I used Abacus Ferndown but definitely not the last.
Highly recommended.
