My partner and I plus many more people around the world, were scammed by a man using the Wire app. He called himself Edward Johansson which we now know to be false.
The app makes it impossible to trace him.
He also used two Cyprus based companies called T4trade and Damadah Holdings. These are owned and run by the UK company Notesco UK Ltd.
Wire is brilliant if you want to stay anonymous.

Contacted this company for refund because product dies not work as advertised and according to instructions. Have received zero response from 2 attempts. I notified them within refund and warranty time. Bad business tactics. I suggest to others LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!! I have spent $79 on a worthless product. Stay away from this company!

Beware: Wire offers no trial to test their software/service and no refund once you've subscribed.

This should've been warning enough, but I was eager to find a Teams/Zoom/Skype alternative and signed up anyway.

The conference call quality of Wire is terrible irrespective of the internet speed of your network or that of your guest(s). The sound regularly breaks up during calls, and even worse, the video feed seldom functions if at all.

After trying Wire's service for nearly a month under different conditions and without any improvement whatsoever, I decided to request a refund.

This was when I found out that Wire's customer service is even worse than their software service. The company was very slow to respond and always responded outside of EU business hours (i.e. middle of the night). There is also no direct email nor phone number to contact the company – something unusual for a call service company especially one claiming to serve businesses.

Just as unusual for a supposedly business service like Wire, they don't offer a refund, despite also not offering a trial of their software. After much back and forth they merely pointed me to their company's fine print in their T&Cs and as so I was unable to get a refund of my annual subscription less than one month into using their unusable service.

For these and numerous other reasons (technical setup, call limitations etc) I would strongly caution anybody against using Wire.

I changed my password, on Wire and now I'm having trouble getting into my account. Even though I'm using the right details, it keeps saying Im wrong and asking me to try again. This issue happens on my Android phone and also on my other computers, whether they run Linux or Windows 11. I can't even get it to work through the web browser app.

The reason I changed my password was that one of my computers said it would log me out and wouldn't accept my correct password. I hoped that changing the password would solve the issue, but it made things worse. Now, I can't access my account on any of my devices and web browser app.

Wire apologized and mentioned that Linux is still in the testing phase, suggesting that I reinstall it. I did that multiple times. However, they fail to understand that this problem occurs on all devices and platforms, not just on Linux.

I finally got my credentials accepted on one PC after four tries. However, I'm worried that if I change it, IT wont solve the issue, and I might lose all my contacts since I might not be able to access my Wire account again.

Wire has a serious issues with their app, yet their solution is to tell me to seek help elsewhere. THIS IS BULL SHIT* I know I have the correct password because I wrote it first on my wire folder, then copy and past.

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy reliable alternative without needing to give a phone number?

Stay away from this company!
They will lock you with cheap fare for a first year but charge you everything extra and offer really bad service at the end. If you miss appointment they will charge you 100$ but when they need to instal something for you they give you a window of 6h and you will wait them 6h TRUST ME!!!!

Never had a problem with Wire. Interface is clean and simple to use. Encrypted messages, video chat or phone chat completely secure. No contact information between chat buddies is shared. Great resource.

I created my Wire account in 2017. Their VoIP chat app is secure, cross-platform and similar to Ring, Skype, Telegram, Viber, etc. You can register with a phone number or email address - it's great to have the choice as I know many would prefer to not use a phone number due to privacy reasons.

Wire employs encryption more often than Telegram messenger and thus I like to use it more for messages I want to keep private between the recipient and I.
