We recently returned from a fantastic 15 day hiking trip with Wilderness Travel, "New Zealand: Ultimate South Island". Our two Kiwi guides were outstanding and managed a complex itinerary with ease and humor. They were both passionate and knowledgable about NZ's biodiversity and history. They were strong communicators, and took the time to build a delightful group rapport. The accomodations, transportation, cuisine and multiple activities offered a nice variety and each was unique to the region visited. The daily hikes/ great walks were invigorating, as well as, stunning. For such an active trip, it was well paced. You really should go & experience it! It is life affirming.

My family traveled to Cape Town and Zimbabwe with Wilderness Travel this summer and was blown away by the experience. Incredible wildlife viewing by safari jeep, mountain bike, train car, boat, and on foot. We spent lots of time in the look up blind watching elephants just a few feet away. (sooo many elephant babies!!), We also saw lions and cubs, giraffe, zebra, warthogs, hyenas. We spent time in the new rhino sanctuary learning about their reintroduction to the park and walking with the rhino. The conservation work Imvelo and Wilderness Travel are doing in the national park is so impactful. It felt good to know our money is contributing to the rhino sanctuary and helping to sustain the local school, medical clinic and surrounding villages there.

We will certainly be traveling with Wilderness Travel again!

Our hiking trip with Wilderness Travel to the Amalfi coast was one of our best trips ever! Our guides could not have been better - fun and adventurous; knowledgeable and generous. The meals were extravagant feasts, and our hotels were perfect. The hikes were incredible, full of beautiful vistas and challenging paths. I feel like we know every inch of the Amalfi coast - from the top tip of Mount Vesuvius to the beaches of Capri. Many thanks to JoAnn and Sergio for the careful planning of this fantastic trip!!!

I have traveled with several well known active travel companies over the years and Wilderness Travel is at the top of my list of favorites. Great itineraries, great guides, great everything! They go that extra mile to make these ‘trips of a lifetime’ an amazing experience.

Love this company! It's one of the few businesses left where you can actually talk to a real live person! Just returned from their Croatia Istria trip. It was a wonderful balance of cultural sights, hikes, and culinary offerings. Our leaders - Nena and Zuzana - were top-notch, ever calm, informative, and accommodating. They were very tuned into the group; able to make adjustments along the way, such as amending hikes to take advantage of more shade during a heat wave. Accommodations were first rate, particularly the Alhambra. Loved all the opportunities to experience regional specialties such as fresh truffles, fish, olive oil, and wine in picturesque settings. My only suggestion for anyone wanting to take this trip - make sure to take some extra days in Slovenia! Hats off to Wilderness Travel for yet another well-curated itinerary and live guidance throughout!

My experience was great because everything was pretty much perfect. We stayed in fantastic hotels, each with its own uniqueness and features. We had many fantastic meals paired with fantastic wine. Our hikes were amazing and gave us a feel for the landscape and culture of the area. They also always included fantastic views!! Our guides were outstanding, as usual, for Wilderness Travel. They were professional at all times and knew how to connect with each member of the trip. They were also willing to share a bit about themselves which adds to the experience. Norway is an amazing country and we were given a taste of what makes it so. The scenery, the people, the food, and the culture will stay with me for a long, long time.

I went to Turkey this summer for a 50th birthday celebration with friends, and it far exceeded my expectations! Being a bucket list destination, I was expecting a high level of quality, and Wilderness Travel delivered. From the excellent guiding, the luxury of our gulet boat, the food of course, and the moment of truth...the hot air balloon experience in Cappadocia! Wilderness uses the best services in all areas, and I felt safe, cared for, and very much part of the process of daily activities. I highly recommend a Private Journey through WT, especially if you aren't a "group traveler" and want more control over your itinerary.

A group of us went on a Tanzania safari this month, beginning in Arusha, then to Tarangire National Park, and the north Serengeti National Park… 10 days, and what an incredible trip. I watched YouTube safari videos for the last year, anticipating what it would be like. I saw things like “bring a water bottle with a filter in it”, “bring bars and snacks for the early game drives”, “bring a beanie and gloves”, etc. Oh no. NO NO NO. This trip was not like the YouTube videos. The lodges / camps we stayed in are all privately-owned, and exquisite. Coffee and cookies brought to our tent patios at 6am while it’s still dark, and we were getting ready for the morning game drive. Complete lovely FULL breakfast in the main dining area (family style) prior to departing for the morning. Beautiful full lunch either back at camp, or under a tree while still out on the game drive… unlimited PURIFIED water at camps, in our tents, as well as in all Toyota Land Cruisers… unlimited drinks in coolers while on game drives. Guides who were the most amazing, knowledgeable gentlemen, who you could not throw out a question they could not answer, whether it was about an animal, a custom, politics, history, etc. Each return from a game drive is met with all the staff, and cold wash cloths, and champagne/cocktails/drinks by the fire pit… sometimes with animals right there in the camp. The staff members at the lodges were INCREDIBLE! So hospitable, polite, friendly, and SO hard-working young men, they were a real treat to be around. They tried so hard to even remember our names, which was so nice. The food at each lodge, AMAZING! 10 days of 3 different lodges/camps, with breakfasts, lunches, dinners, that were all completely different, and completely fabulous! These were multi-course meals, fresh fruit, and some wonderful dessert! The chefs are amazing. Then being escorted back to our tents each evening (mandatory when it’s dark), our beds were turned down, and ready for a lovely night (maybe hearing animals), to do it again the next day! They completely blew the YouTube videos out of the water. Pampered safari living was truly a dream come true. A trip of a lifetime. Thank you Wilderness Travel!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Tanzania: The Great Migration Safari with Wilderness Travel, and it was nothing short of extraordinary! From start to finish, this trip was a seamless blend of adventure, luxury, and breathtaking natural beauty.

The safari itself was a dream come true. Witnessing the Great Migration in action was like stepping into a nature documentary but with the added thrill of being right there in the midst of it. The sheer scale of the migration, with thousands of wildebeest and zebras stretching as far as the eye can see, was awe-inspiring.

Wilderness Travel's attention to detail was impeccable. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about wildlife, offering insights and stories that enriched the experience tremendously. Their expertise made every game drive informative and exciting. The accommodations were luxurious and comfortable, providing a perfect balance of comfort and immersion in the wild. Each tented camp was thoughtfully situated to maximize our viewing opportunities from our rooms, and the service was exceptional--every meal was absolutely incredible!

Additionally, the itinerary was expertly crafted to ensure we witnessed the most spectacular sights while also giving us ample time to soak in the beauty of Tanzania. Every day brought everything from incredible game drives to serene sunsets over the plains.

I cannot recommend this safari enough for anyone looking to experience one of the world's greatest wildlife spectacles. Wilderness Travel has truly set the bar high, and this trip will be etched in my memory forever. If you have the chance to go, don't hesitate--it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that is worth every penny!

Wilderness Travel prepared an itinerary for us a South Africa Private Journey- a visit to Cape Town and then a safari experience in Greater Kruger. This trip was definitely a trip of a lifetime, and certainly one of our best trips ever. While we normally do all our own planning and booking, we felt that a trip to South Africa would be better if arranged by professionals, and Wilderness certainly validated that sentiment. From the start of the trip design to completion of the trip, it was an excellent experience. The choice of lodging and lodges, the day trips offered, and the reserves offered were all top notch. Our biggest, pleasant surprise was that 11 days in the bush was not too many, and that each reserve/lodge offered a different and happy spin on the safari experience. All of the logistical connections were incredibly smooth and nearly seamless-- our airport pick-ups/drop offs; guidance through the terminals and security for AirLink; porters; lodge pick-ups and drop-offs; and an air shuttle transfer between safari lodges and from Mala Mala to JNB airport at the end of our travels. We will highly recommend Wilderness to anyone contemplating a safari trip, and if the experience we had with them for this trip is indicative, they are an excellent choice for planning any of the trips they offer in their extended catalog.

Wilderness Travel exceeded our expectations.
Our private journey to Morocco was our first time traveling with Wilderness Travel and they exceeded our expectations on every front. I highly recommend them and plan to do another trip with them in the future. Barbara Wright worked with us to tailor our trip to our interests and our available time window and Rebecca Streicker-Cale handled the details and logistics of the trip admirably. A good trip manager exceeds ones expectations and Wilderness Travel did just that. Given that it was a private journey, much of the work was done before we departed … designing the route, selecting private riads, extending our time in the Sahara Desert, and perhaps most importantly, assigning us the perfect guide. What more could one ask for?

Our guide, Ali Ait Ichou, was amazing!
We have traveled the world and he was one of our best guides ever! It is hard to imagine how anyone could have done a better job leading our trip. He was patient, kind, caring, sensitive, personable, engaging, and most of all knowledgeable. His demeanor put us at ease throughout the trip. Ali has a clear sense of pride in his people and Morocco and he answered our many questions with facts and insights. He shared his love for Morocco and his experience as a Moroccan Berber. He taught us about his country’s cultures, religions, food, people, history, and geology. His attention to detail was simply outstanding. His handling of the trip was seamless. In many aspects he made the trip what it was … excellent. He exceeded our expectations and made it a memorable trip … an unforgettable experience. I can't think of a single thing Ali could have done better! We especially enjoyed the special things that would have been impossible for us to find or do on our own, such as our lunch with a Berber family in the mountains, our walks through community gardens, and our visit to a nomad family in the desert near the border with Algeria. We wanted to experience the local culture and Ali made sure that all our meals were special … local non touristy places for the most part. Ali listened to our interests and then worked to fulfill them. If I mentioned a topic or a sight or showed him a photo of something we were interested in, he worked to include it in our itinerary. He made our visit a once in a lifetime experience. He was an outstanding leader and guide in every aspect … and now he is our friend!

My dream of going to Africa came true, I waited for it for 3 years, all I had to do was go to the Wilderness Travel website, choose the trip I was interested in and they took care of the rest. When I landed in Africa I felt something that cannot be described, I was so happy. I can definitely say that Africa changed me, I discovered something in myself that I didn't know and I found myself. Thank you once again Wilderness Travel, you made my dream come true, I recommend everyone to use their services.

At this time of stay-at-home orders, we have resorted to looking at our photos of the places we have traveled with Wilderness Travel. Very fond memories of the well-designed itineraries, the excellent local guides and the genuine adventure travel experiences. We recently enjoyed a 3 week trip to Argentina & Chile. Two weeks was arranged through Wilderness Travel. Our focal point was Patagonia and the hotels, transfers and guides were very good.

Patagonia was spectacular and Wilderness guided some good decisions, such as staying at Estancia Christina for 2 nights instead of one. The hotels were uniformly high quality. One part of the Patagonia hiking that could be improved is having a variety of hiking options. Our first day hike was more ambitious than some members of our foursome was expecting.

We also did a two day trip to Iguazu Falls. We had the most outstanding guide of the entire trip. This is someone who loves sharing what he is most passionate about, and is a true naturalist.

We had multiple trips to Buenos Aires since it's the transporation hub and no matter where your ultimate destination is you are always going back through Buenos Aires. The city is so spread out it's hard to get a sense of it if you are only there for one or two days.

This was my first time traveling with Wilderness Travel. I`ve traveled numerous times with a number of other companies, and seeing gorillas in their natural habitat was at the top of my list of travel destinations. The itinerary appealed to me, and I wasn't disappointed. The guides couldn`t have been better, as well as the accommodations. I`ve already been looking through the catalog for a future trip. First class organization. I can't find any issue with Wilderness Travel

Our trip was excellent in every respect - trip leader, local guides, drivers, staff at estancias. Obviously, a great deal of effort was spent on planning the hikes and other activities, travel, accommodations. Our trip leader Rob Noonan and all the guides educated us in every aspect of Buenos Aires and Pataonia - history, geology, meteorology, flora and fauna. The hikes were strenuous, but we could set our own paces, so, even I, at age 74, was able to complete all the hikes without overtaxing myself. A trip that was good for the mind and body - what else could you want?
