Timewasters and worthless
Don't waste your precious time with this people, they are completely worthless. Their porcesses are extremely long and you'll never get anything in time if you need to go to a tribunal. The triage case workers manage your case at their own discretion and you'll have little chances to speak with a real solicitor. I should have read the reviews before even contacting them, don't make the same mistake.
Everytime you ring they don't answer
Everytime you ring, nobody answers and it gives no option to leave a voicemail. They change the voicemail message from time to time, but never call you back. Last time I rang it said "nobody" is here. Tried for my son as he is disabled and needs urgent help. They email claiming to ring but never do or hang up immediately so you can't answer. Then you ring and nobody is there. Sounds like they are scamming.
waste of time
These were recommended by my niece who is a barrister. What a joke!
After reading the negative reviews here, I’m relieved I’m not the only one who’s had issues with this incompetent company. I applied for support in October 2025 and waited two months for a reply. When I finally got a response, they asked me to send all court documents. I sent them immediately, directly from the court. Two months later, they came back and said they couldn’t help because I supposedly didn’t send the documents in time!
I sent them as soon as I received them from the courts. I don’t control court backlogs, and I sent them only two days after the requested date. This company is disorganised, lazy, and will waste your time. Don’t bother with them.
My case they prey on all personal…
My case they prey on all personal information…
Why take so long to say no?
Two months of back and forth, and the repeated provision of substantial and very personal documentation from me at their request. Then they tell me they cannot help and that I should opt for a conditional fee agreement! Despite me having clearly explained why that is not an option. I have now lost two months of crucial time as legally I only have six months to bring a claim. The stress and anguish this waiting has caused, and to then be told to do a CFA, it is unbelievable. Surely they could have made this decision much earlier on? The ethos of Weareadvocate is wonderful, if it did as suggested, I do pro bono work myself, but this has been soul destroying and I am back to square one and now under under immense pressure due to the loss of two months whilst waiting. I wish I had seen these reviews before applying, and now feel my only option left I to be a litigant in person. Undoubtedly a disaster in the making.
Don’t hold any hope in this company
Don’t hold any hope in this company, find another way honestly, they accepted to help me months ago after sending them everything they required, they said they would find a barrister for my case and yes that took a lot of the stress away instantly knowing someone will help you when you are actually desperate for help.
They have emailed me less than 24 hours before I am in court to tell me they cannot find anyone to help, there is now not enough time for me to find anyone else, 2 months ago and they wait until you have no time to do anything, that is not helping that’s actually making it worse the situation.
Do not bother with them, clearly if this is a charity then they need to be investigated and who is paying them for this service as it’s a joke. I get it’s a charity but you are offering desperate people help only to let them down at the very last minute, wasted my time and only made the situation worse.
Thanks
Disappointed by Mischaracterisation and Lack of Engagement
I submitted a detailed application to Advocate regarding a serious incident, with clear legal implications under PACE, CPIA, and the ECHR. Unfortunately, my application was rejected on the basis of a gross mischaracterisation of facts, a claim that was wholly incorrect and contradicted by the evidence I provided.
I followed-up with a clarification, outlining the legal grounds and correcting the factual errors. Advocate acknowledged receipt but did not engage with the substance of my clarification. Their final response confirmed the refusal without addressing the core issues raised, stating that their review process does not involve legal analysis — despite the fact that my application was rejected based on a flawed legal interpretation.
While I understand the charity faces resource constraints, this does not excuse shoddy workmanship, inaccurate assessments or a refusal to engage with material clarifications. The lack of transparency and accountability in the review process is deeply disappointing, especially for an organisation that works with senior barristers and claims to support access to justice.
I would urge Advocate to review its triage procedures to prevent similar mischaracterisations in future, and to ensure applicants are treated with the fairness and professionalism they deserve.
Rubbish wasted ,conflict of interest…
Rubbish wasted ,conflict of interest case worker Emma rose; future pupil at one pump court chamber king council name D Chrico is on the fraudulent judgment refused my merit case .administrative court staff and court of appeal civil division full of fraud involved with my case and did not get any help.
Professional and efficient
We want to express our gratitude to Advocate Charity and particularly to
Miranda who has been absolutely phenomenal in representing us at a trial, her knowledge, quick thinking, professionalism and above all motivation are admirable.
She managed to find exellent points within the existing and additional evidence, which was presented by the GMP just a few minutes before the hearing was due to begin, and build such convincing argument that prosecution has chosen to not pursue the case any further.
We wish her all the success in the future

Absolute waste of space
Absolute waste of space. Back and forth for weeks wanting documents after documents. Clearly fulfil the criteria but they state 'there is not an exceptional reason'. Yes they are a charity, but they state they are here to help when you don't qualify for legal aid but can't afford your own legal representation, when that's not actually true because even when you fulfil the criteria, they still want an 'exceptional reason'. Thanks - all you've done is waste my time at a point in my life that is already stressful enough. Like other reviews here, don't waste your time.
Waste of time
Waste of time. Not sure why exactly are they asking for all those files. Months of emails and then nothing has happened. Their Overall Rating says it all. Avoid.
A Bureaucratic, Ineffective, and Disheartening Experience
My experience with We Advocate has been profoundly disappointing. Rather than providing meaningful support, they hide behind bureaucracy, offering nothing but periodic emails “ensuring” they are still looking for representation. In reality, these emails feel like a mere formality—there is no real progress, no tangible assistance, and certainly no sense of urgency or genuine effort to help.
What makes this even more disheartening is how they play with your desperation, keeping you hoping for help that never comes. Instead of stringing people along indefinitely, they should at least provide a clear deadline—perhaps a month—after which it’s obvious they cannot help. That level of honesty and transparency would be far more respectful than the endless cycle of empty assurances.
The entire process was a frustrating waste of time, energy, and HOPE. If you are looking for real support and action, I strongly recommend seeking help elsewhere.
Do not you ever believe this lot
Do not you ever believe this lot.
No one will help you unless you are related or a family member of one of their staff.
They will drag you along for years , they will email you on the night of your case ( when you are already stressed out ) to tell you that no one is available to help you. They get lots of money from the Gov. also from legal people when they win cases.
. Rude and arrogant staff who treats you with disrespect.
Professional
Professional, prompt, super efficient with outstanding Barristers. Fabulous service, so lucky to have found you and had the help we needed with such short notice. Forever grateful to you all

Improvement of standards needed
I commend the ethos of this charity and the lawyers for donating their time for justice. However, it appears that the charity is lacking resources and it could be ran much more efficiently, especially at a time when legal aid has been cut. There is much room for improvement. People are put off by previous experiences. It depends what type of case you are submitting to be assessed, so not every case submitted will be taken on and lawyers can only spend 3 days on a case. My experience is the following:-
1. They fail to meet the service-level agreement time frames in getting back to you. They did however, state that they were volunteers down, but only after having to send them an email, due to no contact from them.
2. They communicate solely by email. Voicemail is constantly on. I asked them on a few occasions, to contact me by phone, but this was rudely ignored.
3. It appears that volunteers lack basic communication proficiency, overall lack of emotional intelligence as submitting a case is a stressful endeavour and more so for some and a lack of etiquette. Some emails were borderline rude and blunt. They miss the point of what you are communicating and reply with an answer that does not give you a reply to your question. . . . . then its another 2-3 weeks wait for them to answer again.
4. As email is the only way to contact them by and they don't reply straight away, you could be waiting a few weeks, it becomes frustrating and concerning, as you have provided them with personal information. Providing sensitive information to an organisation that you can only correspond with via email, is extremely worrying and caused anxiety.
5.They don't acknowledge receipt of confidential documents they ignore that too! even though an automatic response is received to emails, an acknowledgment still needs to be received, stating that they are in safe receipt of your documents.
6. They don't have a complaints line to raise concerns.
7. There are 2 general emails for contact. I even called the Bar Council to make enquiries and to submit my concerns.
I hope they really take note of this - it really is not good enough. Instructions were ignored, and just as I thought, my case was turned down. In fact, my case has been considered by my own efforts and I'm very pleased I pursued it personally. So my concern is also that some people may take the decision from the pro bono lawyer as gospel and think they have no case, but in fact do. The public need to have in mind that as you are using pro bono service, it will not get the same attention as a fee paying service. That is the way of the world unfortunately.
they need to be shut down or dsbandoned…
fAke organization. Do not exist and do not provide help or they do only to "certain people "selectively due to clear prejudice. institutionalsed prejudice. Staff pretend to be incompetent to frustrate but nobody could be that incompetent or could they. So clearly it's intentional. n 2o years they have neve assisted, have caught them out in their lies, the manager needs to be replaced, removed from her job. They will now be reported for breach of their code and governance. In suspect There is a continual pre existence conflict of interests
Passed two Stages of Assessment - to then be informed they cant help me!
Firstly I must state, I fully understand this is a Charity, and a Charity has limited resources, so cannot help everyone. However, read on.
There are various stages that an applicant seeking help from we are advocate goes through. These can take months. All fair enough. No problem with that. I have waited fifteen years to have a matter considered in Court, so obviously I am a patient man.
Having passed the first two stages, i felt reasonably confident, that in due course, I would be provided with some form of help.
Imagine my complete and utter shock, when having passed these two stages, I was informed, they cannot help with my type of case.
As I have been persistent in trying to get a fair and proper hearing before the court, without legal assistance, a Judge banned me from making any further applications for a period of two years.
This is EXACTLY the reason why I need legal representation, AND imagine how disappointed I was, having passed the first two stages of assessment, by weareadvocate, for them to tell me, they cannot help with my type of case.
Those with any experience of the English Judicial system fully understand the whole system disintegrated many years ago. Yet we persist without legal representation believing one day, Justice must surely prevail.
An absolutely invaluable service
It concerns me that the negative reviews on this site will mean people won't apply for help because they think it's pointless. It absolutely isn't. Advocate are not going be able to help everyone simply because there may not be a legal professional with experience in your particular issue, or who has availability when you need it, or because there is no one available in your area. What Advocate needs is a larger pool of professionals but they can't do anything about that.
In my case, i applied for help early on in my multitrack court case and the wonderful Stephen was my contact at Advocate. He tried for months to find someone but no one was available, however he continued to try when he could have just given up and eventually found the most amazing Barrister who was knowledgeable, professional and very down to earth. I was beyond stressed when Alex was assigned to my case and two years into the process. Being a Litigant in Person can be very daunting for normal people with no experience of our legal system, which definitely isn't set up to help the little people. I had no funds to mount my defense or counterclaim and had spent several terrifying days in court alone, facing the other side's solicitors and judges who all acted like I wasn't in the room. It was such a relief to have someone in my corner and it really saved my sanity. Alex helped me to reach settlement to my benefit and amazement as I was the defendant and expecting to be paying out not receiving a pay out myself.
If you are in need of support because you are unable to afford legal counsel, do not hesitate to contact Advocate. The staff there are helpful, supportive and knowledgeable and if you are eligible for their services, they will do the utmost to help you and will remain invested in your success right until the end. I cannot thank them enough for what they did for me.
Disappointment for the desperate
You fill out a very long and detailed form, then painstakingly attach (in my case) multiple documents and letters to this form. Only to be contacted by email days afterward, asking you to upload the same information that you already included with the application form? Then…you hear nothing back. Zero. So ALL of your most private and vulnerable information has gone to someone’s inbox somewhere with not even so much as an acknowledgement. For them to do what? Sit on it?
They take forever to respond to emails
They take forever to respond to emails. There is no phone number to call.
They said they will find me a solicitor. It’s been 7 months still no solicitor.
So whatever case you’re dealing with the other party always has the upper hand because you don’t have a legal team. They don’t file papers for you or do any paperwork.
They just watch you do whatever you can on your own
