☆☆☆☆☆ One of the Most Unprofessional Hiring Experiences
☆☆☆☆☆
My experience with the hiring manager was one of the most frustrating hiring experiences I’ve ever had.
After I accepted the job offer and completed everything that was asked of me, I was told the hiring process had to be paused until my background check came back. I did exactly what was required and passed the background check.
Instead of keeping me informed, communication completely broke down. I was told the hiring manager would look into what happened and call me back, but that never happened. I had to keep reaching out just to get basic information, and even then I was left waiting with no answers.
I eventually found out the position had been given to someone else because they wanted someone who could start sooner. At no point was I told there was a deadline to start or that my job was at risk if the background check wasn’t completed by a certain date. If that had been communicated, I never would have turned down two other job offers.
Professionalism starts with honesty and communication. If you make commitments to applicants, follow through or at least be transparent when circumstances change. Leaving someone hanging, failing to return promised calls, and allowing them to believe they have a job only to tell them later it’s gone is unacceptable.
I can’t recommend working with this hiring manager based on my experience. Applicants deserve clear communication, honesty, and basic respect throughout the hiring process, and unfortunately I did not receive any of those.
