DO NOT USE VETERIS

I was very clear on the phone to Veteris as to what I needed from a home visit - to take bloods to get medical information for our aged cat, to work out how to help his Diarrhea to enable meds to be prescribed - without the trauma of taking him out of his safe home environment. I was told that Yes absolutely Veteris do all blood tests in the home. THEY DO NOT - and i was made to pay £161 only to be told by the visiting "vet" to take my 18 year old cat to my local vet... Veteris have not responded at all - just take money for lying. And were given ample time to respond to my complaint during the day.

Very disappointing experience

Very disappointing experience. I’m genuinely questioning whether the person we saw was even a qualified vet. She couldn’t perform the most basic check — taking my cat’s temperature — and blamed it on him "resisting" reasoning the stool was stuck in his butt, which is the most illogical reason as he had loosies . Then she suggested sedation just to draw blood, which seemed completely unnecessary. My cat is normally calm and cooperative, even during injections, but he was so stressed by her handling that he actually ran away — something he’s never done before. We were so concerned for his well-being that we eventually had to ask her to leave. Even our neighbour, whose father was a vet, said it seemed like she had no real experience with cats. It honestly felt like she was more interested in charging us than properly caring for our pet.

Kitten’s hospital experience

We took our kitten to hospital on 08.07.25 and again 09.07.25 The vet on both occasions provided a Clear and informative consultation-with space to think about what course of action to follow. Our kitten had to be admitted. On discharge clear information was provided with a follow up telephone call a few days later to check progress. We appreciate the team who were supportive during a stressful time. Thanks also to the calm and helpful administration team.

Traumatic and mishandled end of life care

It’s taken some time for me to write this, as I’m still grieving the loss of my beloved dog, Mitsy, and trying to come to terms with the trauma of her final moments.

I contacted Veteris for a home euthanasia visit on Easter Sunday. Mitsy was suffering from an infected oral melanoma that had spread to her eye. Over the phone, I was assured she would be gently sedated before the final injection — something I had come to expect from past surgical procedures at our local vet, where Mitsy had always been sedated first to keep her calm and pain-free.

But when the attending vet arrived, he attempted to insert an IV without any prior sedation. Mitsy, already weak and unwell, was terrified — trembling and trying to escape.

After two failed IV attempts, I had to intervene and insist on the sedation I had been promised. Only then did he administer it — but the dose given was too low, and Mitsy continued to resist. Two further failed IV attempts followed before a second sedation dose was given, which finally allowed the procedure to continue. The entire process took nearly an hour and was deeply distressing.

During this time, the vet also made inappropriate remarks — including repeatedly suggesting we “get another dog.” Whether meant kindly or not, it was an incredibly insensitive thing to say while we were in tears, saying goodbye to our best friend.

When I submitted a formal complaint, the vet denied making those comments and downplayed what had happened — including the number of IV attempts. No meaningful accountability was taken at all by Veteris

Mitsy deserved a peaceful and respectful goodbye. Instead, her final moments were filled with fear and confusion — and that memory will stay with us forever. I’m sharing this because I don’t want any pet owner to go through what we did. In my view - This company cares more about profits than proper care, and the vet we dealt with lacked the necessary experience and compassion for such a sensitive moment.

It has taken me a long time to feel…

It has taken me a long time to feel ready to write a review here. My Airedale Terrier was referred to Vertis by my vet Snoots. He had somehow hurt his nail and there was some
Bone sticking out so i needed assistance. The vet came to my home. She administered a sedation to my 30kg dog and he didn’t go to sleep. She decided to double his dose and dismissed me when I said he probably doesn’t need double. During the procedure he stoped breathing and again she wasn’t listening to me. Eventually she listened and said oh, oh dear we better wake him up. As he wasn’t waking up she got me to shake him till he did. While he was under she decided to cut all his nails and overcut them so they all bled. I don’t know if this is a lack of experience or what but after paying out over £755.30 and watching a very inexperienced vet treat my dog I would caution anyone who uses their services. This instance occurred on 29 January 2024 according to my bank statement. The app won’t let me post after 12 months but it’s important people know.

I had to use Veteris for the first…

I had to use Veteris for the first time. They was excellent in my case. I called three times, because I was in a panic and cried the last time I called as I was worried sick about my dog Fifi. They was nothing but caring, understanding and welcoming. My dog Fifi had a swelling in her throat that appeared quite suddenly, breathing was not normal, she was gagging and swallowing constantly. I arranged for the vet to come to my home as it is late at night and the hospital is a distance away. She arrived within 45 mins, very welcoming and kind. She believes Fifi had an Allergic reaction she gave her a steroid jab and some anti inflammatory meds. Fifi wasn’t acting like a sick dog and the vet was very sweet with Fifi. She kept me well informed and answered all my questions patiently. The total cost would have only paid for a consultation fee with the other local emergency hospitals. So even though it was an expense, it wasn’t as much as I would have paid elsewhere. Very happy dog parent!

Very good experience

My dog Ida started showing concerning symptoms on a Friday afternoon. As they were worsening, I called my vets, who directed me to Veteris for emergency care.

The vet, Dr Carol, arrived within the hour (the despatcher kindly called me back to give me an ETA) and really took the time to examine Ida. She even called a specialist for a 2nd opinion and to rule out some diagnoses. Dr Carol was very calm, patient and kind and a reassuring presence at a very scary time.

Ida is now feeling much better. Thank you Dr Carol!

Care and compassion

Our elderly cat developed a saddle thrombosis on the evening of a bank holiday. One minute he was fine, the next he was in extreme pain and had lost the use of both his hind legs. I phoned Veteris who made his case a priority. Carol, the vet, arrived two hours later. She gave us time and space to say goodbye to our dearly owed cat whilst making his comfort a priority. From the outset she was calm, professional and thorough - explaining what she was doing at each step and giving us treatment options and advice. But overlying this was her compassion both for our cat and ourselves. It made such a difference at a time of huge shock and upset. Couldn’t rate this humane service highly enough.

Traumatic and brutal experience.

This service is extremely expensive, but I wanted my old cat to have a peaceful death at home, and this was the first vet offering this service I found on the internet. I have since discovered others. The service was fast, for which I was grateful, but my cat did not have the peaceful passing I expected, in fact stabbing an old cat with a needle in the back with muscle wastage was excuciating for him. If that wasn't bad enough, the first two injection failed to do the job and had to be repeated, which I know can sometimes happen. My mostly sedated cat still cried in protest when he was stabbed in the back a second time - I was distraught at the time so was not expecting the vet to do this again otherwise I would have protested. If this wasn't bad enough, after washing the blanket he was on then shaking it out, the needle that had been put into his vien for the final injection fell out of it. To say the least I am traumatised and disgusted. Avoid this vet practice to avoid trauma and agony to your pet.

Bloat. Superb treatment and advice. Very sad and correctly predicted outcome.

Hi.
It’s been 8 weeks since we lost our beloved Stanley…. aged 13….. big fat Old English Sheepdog.
We called Veteris maybe 1 am and Axel arrived and immediately said “ how longs he been like that?”
We had no idea what he was talking about but Stanley had bloat - it’s a killer…..
He quite correctly but alarmingly put an oxygen mask on Stan amongst other things and strongly recommended euthanasia.
We didn’t want to hear it.
Stan survived the night and we were of course jubilant. And he had a few more very well weeks.
Three weeks later we called veteris again. Maela diagnosed bloat.
And again euthanasia was strongly recommended.
We didn’t do it.
He never recovered and died ( no doubt suffering) the following day when we called a different vet to euthanise because we’d had “ in our minds” a bad experience with Veteris.
Obviously you wouldn’t be on this site if you didn’t love your pet.
Bloat…. Maybe I’m mistaken ….. is not ordinarily indicated for old English sheepdogs. However, we were wrong. So wrong. And they were exactly right.
After reading I have learned that without hospitalisation and a successful surgery ( not guaranteed despite age) bloat is a bad death. It will reoccur…. as I remember the vet saying.
So!!!! In terms of a review…….
If it had been a cardiac arrest re a human I wouldn’t have questioned it ……
Honestly we loved our dog. Bloat is bloat.
I was ignorant and truthfully thought everything was a little over the top etc ( we’d been out with Stan that evening etc)……
So…….. I can’t rate them highly enough. They knew Stanley was suffering and would suffer. It’s never nice to hear something so contrary to how your baby dog has been that day …. But such is the nature of bloat.
Maybe it would have made no difference to us but a simple fact sheet etc re something so final snd serious may have helped.
The stomach swells and causes problems that if not immediately kills your dog as blood supplies are lost/ damaged……. And the recurrence rate is high without surgery. Stanley was really well only hours before his second episode.
Veteris were absolutely superb. Their verdict was shocking. But entirely correct to prevent Stanley suffering.
I hope this is helpful to anyone who suddenly - out of the blue- loses their best mate……. I guess it’s the human cardiac arrest …. It’s a killer.
Veterans were firm ( we didn’t like it) but we understand why now. Our dog needed to be euthanised. I’d absolutely trust them again with any animal. And thank them for their v good advice and treatment of Stanley.

They went through all his recent past history, were thorough in the diagnostic and care plan
Long calls to explain condition, situation and plan. Videos of the boy that were reassuring when your 4paws is away and sick

Overall very satisfied with every aspect
We felt in good hands

We had a very sick dog last night with an infection, shallow breathing and coughing, it was so worrying. Artemis arrived within 15 minutes. She was knowledgable, caring and inspired confidence, after bathing the dog’s sore paws, administering paracetamol and an anti inflammatory painkiller he calmed down and made it through the night until his own vet could see him next day. We are so grateful.

PLEASE BE WARNED

PLEASE read my review.

Edit: veteris now blocked me and my truthful review on FB

Veteris do not provide the service described on their website "24/7 EMERGENCY CARE’.

We waited 7 long hours. It was an unforgettably traumatic experience.

We called an “emergency service” advising our dog was a large breed, 65 kilos, anxious and could be reactive to strangers.

Normally we would sedate him prior to vet appointments, but this was an EMERGENCY and we had no medication. We were transparent with information to enable a vet experienced in canine body language/vocal communication to attend.

At no time were we advised they could not accommodate large breeds.

We waited 7 long hours.

We had calls of updates stating the vet was on the way. However, we had to call constantly to chase them.

Angelo was deteriorating fast.

On one phone call the nurse asked if we had given the sedative in preparation, when as above we had carefully explained we were unable to do so. This is unacceptable.

It appears they only have ONE vet covering the entire geographical range they advertise.

Eventually a petite single female vet came. We had expected a team.

She immediately reeled costs before she even checked Angelo.

I said we will pay, just help him. She replied she had to do this and continued to do so throughout.

I had muzzled him and placed him on a lead. She was visibly scared of him and admitted being frightened. She was hesitant & jumpy injecting the sedative. It took more than one attempt. She hurt a dog already in pain.

By this time he was so weak. he could only faintly growl.

She was absolutely in no danger.

Each time he moved his head she administered more sedation. I believe 4 in total. Eventually she gave him general anaesthesia to carry out the tests.

Heartbreakingly, we made the decision to have Angelo euthanized as his prognosis was poor.

Angelo was a much loved family pet . To have his last moment of consciousness feeling scared, in pain, muzzled and traumatised, haunts us. it is hard to live with.

I will never forget the sheer terror in his eyes.

The vet's obvious fear made it worse for angelo and for us.

To prevent further distress, we asked for him to be euthanized immediately without waking him from the anaesthesia.

We didn't get to say a loving goodbye.

No pet guardian or dog should experience this.

I wanted to keep Angelo home so our cats could see he had passed but as it was a Saturday evening the vet advised she take him as the crematorium is not open on a Sunday.

She proceeded with costs and even asked if we wanted to choose an urn. In our absolute distress this was inappropriate and incredibly insensitive.

She left & returned with a large canvas sheet with handles. I was astonished there was suitable respectful equipment.

In shock, I helped place Angelo on this sheet. I am female, 5'4" 61 years old and the vet and I could not lift him. it was midnight by this time and we had to drag my dog along the ground.

On reaching the vehicle, it was a small white van.

In the back I could clearly see another deceased dog in a bag. Due to lack of space, Angelo was placed on top. It was heartbreaking and disrespectful to drag a loved family dog along the ground and pile him inside like rubbish.

I don't not think I will ever be able to erase the memory from my mind.

I have since read other reviews and staggered to read this has happened to another client in July 2023 also a large breed.

Veteris have not made any improvements to their vehicle or equipment.

What if Angelo had needed transportation for emergency surgery? This could have been a factor?

The vet did explain each test and stage. I acknowledge her expertise and kindness. She apologised by the van when I broke down.

However, she was not experienced in canine anxiety, body language, facial expressions or reactivity. He was too unwell to be a threat.

Astonishing Veteris today said “it is rare, statistically, most of the time (generally 95% of the time) not large breeds they see”

This is no justification for Angelo’s treatment and end of life.

Angelo was in the 5%. He mattered.

We explained everything when calling Veteris. Why did they not advise they were ill equipped to help?

Unbelievably I found the same heartbreaking events have happened in July 2023, June 2023 and May 2024.

It is unacceptable not to communicate so potential clients are made aware of the waiting time, lack of a suitable vehicle & equipment for sick and/or deceased pets to make an informed decision if to use Veteris.

I was told they listened to our calls and “did not feel it was an end of life” situation! We are not veterinary professionals and called Veteris for an EMERGENCY vet service. How could we know?

I truly would not want anyone else to have this horrific experience.

It is unacceptable on every level. My communication with them confirms my worst fear.

Please be aware.

Wow! Incredible.

I phoned Veteris emergency vet in Shoreditch as I was visiting my daughter in London. They recognised that my dog had potential GDV and it was urgent. They sent a mobile vet (Maela) to my home who scanned her and gave her injections for pain and sickness and diagnosed GDV. She released the air from her twisted stomach which saved her life and rang ahead to Shoreditch hospital. I drove her there immediately and they operated at 3am. She stayed with them for a few days. Antonio and Carlos were so professional and skillful.
I can recommend them without hesitation. I was so nervous but they were incredible.
They saved my dogs life and my normal vet is very impressed with their reaction and professionalism.

Eternally Grateful

We could not have asked for a kinder, more diligent or more compassionate service than the one Ines provided us with when we needed home euthanasia for our beloved pet. I never expected that such a sad time could be transformed into something so peaceful and beautiful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
