Be Cautious—Their Strategy Benefits Them, Not You
My experience with Five Lakes Law Group and the Veteran Debt Assistance program raised major concerns. Their strategy requires clients to intentionally fall behind on payments for 90–180 days, which can severely damage credit, add fees, and increase the risk of collections or lawsuits. We chose not to follow this approach, so we avoided harm — but the outcome could have been very different if we had listened to their guidance.
Despite the “Veteran‑focused” branding, the support we received was generic and not tailored to the needs of Veteran families or households facing medical or employment hardship. The program is structured in a way that appears to benefit their fee model more than the client’s long‑term financial stability.
I strongly encourage anyone considering this service to research alternatives and speak directly with creditors before enrolling.
