PLATFORM networking events provide a fantastic opportunity to meet, learn from and be inspired by other business owners and leaders. They’ve helped me to make great contacts, build a supportive network and I really look forward to these events.

I have nothing but praise for the UK Startup & ScaleUp team. Everything from the event registration to the final drinks and close event (party! :-) was managed very professionally. From a benefit and value perspective, though, it gets even better. Having spent over four years considering starting a side hustle, I now have! I'm using the advice and contacts gained to launch something exciting in the coming months!

UK Startup & Scaleup Week was jam packed full of speakers, start ups, scaling up businesses. It was a packed schedule but always welcoming, with networkers just hoping to inspire and to be inspired - the week did not disappoint, it was brimming with smiles, hints tips and ideas to apply to our businesses.

I’ve spent this week following up with some of the fantastic people I met at the event last week. As a newbie to the area, I can’t tell you how much more settled I now feel re-establishing my business in Sunderland after seeing how supportive, welcoming and inspiring the business community is here. Thank you so much.

Organiser Paul Lancaster is *the* man to know in the North-East business scene. Paul is the very definition of a super-connector, and brings together high-achieving individuals to share their knowledge and help others.

The events Paul puts on are laid-back, fun and very engaging, drawing all manner of business owners and entrepreneurs, from startups to large enterprises. Everyone at the events is friendly and willing to help each other.

Whatever stage of business you're in, I'd highly recommend checking out PLATFORM and UK Startup Week. It's a great investment of your time.

I think the Platform events in Sunderland have been great for the business community - keep them going!

Thoroughly enjoyed Platform Sunderland, there was a lovely vibe in the room. Met lots of knowledgeable people and learnt a lot - and had a good old chin wag!

I will definitely be encouraging my clients and business owners to get involved with UK Startup week too!

PLATFORM events in Newcastle and Sunderland are always an outstanding experience! Amazing event!! Great for startup founders!

I’ve just finished Paul’s ‘5 Star Focus Programme’ last week and would highly recommend signing up! If you’re a business owner who is wanting to inject some new energy, a fresh perspective and structure into your business, this is for you!

I found Paul’s daily themes of inspiration, getting started, funding and finance, growing and scaling & keep going or pivot a really helpful way to refocus on what I want to achieve day to day, week on week to move towards my goals and vision. Paul Lancaster – 5 Star Focus Programme

I joined Paul’s Newcastle Startup Week at the end of last year on the recommendation of a friend.

Firstly if you are in business and want to meet like-minded people this is definitely the place to go!

I met up with Paul as part of the package for the Newcastle Startup Week group. Whilst we were chatting he was telling me about an idea he had about his 5 Star Focus Programme and how it had really helped his focus and productivity by following a 5 principled regime. I was intrigued and knew I needed something to kick-start me into 2021 so joined up the following day when he announced the dates.

To be honest, I didn’t know that much about the programme but joined as I could see how passionate Paul was about what he does and the knowledge/networks he has so just went with it ….

From someone who can be easily distracted and looking too far ahead, the programme helps to set your mind-set on the now and getting things done. I love the way the programme is designed to focus your attention on set areas of your business taking everything into consideration including YOU.
 
Inspiration – This gives you time to play with new ideas, have fun, relax, recharge AND not feel guilty for feeling like you are not working. This is crucial – all work and no play and all that!

Get Stuff Done – Or what I call it is “Get $hit Done!”
For me this was about organising my day better and getting through my to-do list in a more constructive way. Also tackling the tasks that I kept putting off and we are all guilty of that!

Funding & Finance
It’s so important to forget about this aspect of the business when you are knee deep in the essence of what your business delivers. Making time to really understand your finances in all aspects is imperative to ensure you are more organised in cash flow, accounting, funding etc. etc. It’s so easy to overlook and bury your head!

Growth & Scaling
For me really understanding where you want to be and how you need to do it in a more planned constructive way was something I took away from the programme. Creating tangible goals for the next year, 2 years, 5 years etc. More importantly it’s about reviewing your plans regularly, setting the time to do it and not looking at it in an ad-hoc fashion.

Keep Going or Pivot
Reviewing what you have done is key. If you always do what you always do, then nothing changes – good and bad. When you start to review, you recognise what works, what doesn’t and how you can spend your time more effectively and potentially work smarter for better results. I for one am or was very guilty of this.

I loved the simplicity of attributing specific themes to your working week so that you are not stuck in that “trying to do everything” and not achieving as much as you could.

The programme is more than a structure though. Paul guides you through any areas of concern that you may need help with during your daily 1-1 sessions. He can connect you with other people to assist with your needs or likeminded people who may be a great fit with your business or potential clients. He helped with technical solutions for efficiency and social media products. He helped with guidance on funding and who to contact. Whatever your weak spots are, Paul will endeavour to help!

So if you’re feeling stuck, unmotivated or maybe just need a little help in a particular area then reach out to Paul and join his next group! You won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic events and community, with the annual Newcastle Startup Week complemented by monthly Founder’s Friday events. Always great up-to-date insights and the support & network is invaluable.

Paul is doing absolutely fabulous work with Newcastle Start Up Week. It was a joy being a guest as he is a great host, very welcoming and relaxing and easy to talk to. He also kept the session on track so ensured that it delivered value to the listener. He was having a busy time with many other excellent people on - so altogether well worth signing up for.

I recently joined the Startup community after leaving the corporate world and taking the leap into becoming an entrepreneur, and it has helped in so many ways. Giving access to an amazing network of small business owners, with such a depth of experience and knowledge, and Paul is a great source of inspiration.
Having a support group like this if you're starting out in business is invaluable, I would highly recommend it to anyone feeling they need a business community of like minded people to help drive thier own business forward.

Love NSW and the monthly Founder's Friday/wider events. The community is great, supportive and positive.
I never hesitate in signing up for these events. Entrepreneurs/pre-startups will find it great but the networking and connecting is great too. Not only 'startups' will get a great deal out of Paul's events and community.

I attended my first Newcastle Startup Week in May 2019, and it was great! Each day had a unique theme starting with 'Day One Inspiration', and ending with 'Day Five Keep Going or Pivot?'. The after-parties were superb! A lovely chance to network with entrepreneurs at different stages in their start-up journey. They were informal, and I made some excellent contacts whom I've stayed in touch with to this day.

Due to COVID-19, Newcastle Startup Week pivoted to online events. You can see the talks from these events over at Newcastle Startup Week's YouTube channel. Paul Lancaster, the founder, created a supportive Startup Week Community, and I'm grateful to be a member. Paul posts daily to help inspire, connect and support the members. He also offers a 1-2-1 Welcome Chat / Business Consultation, that is priceless!

There are countless benefits to joining; some are raising your profile, finding potential new clients, and saving money with the exclusive offers shared within the group. I can't stress how much you should join! Starting a business can be lonely and challenging. But it doesn't have to be that way. By joining this great community of people who support one another and aspire to help each other succeed, you can achieve your dream of starting up a business.
