Worse than a low cost airline

This is one of the worst airlines I have ever flown with. Worse than a low cost carrier. The first and last time. Customer service is the worst. Not possible to speak to a live person and no one answers the calls. Less than 24 hours after booking my flight, the times had already been changed. I should have cancelled then. The flight times were changed 4 more times in a space of 2 weeks! The flight was delayed and I nearly missed my connecting flight as a result of that. I was overcharged for my baggage and the seats I had initially booked, I lost when I changed the date. I was told the money would get refunded but a month later and I am still waiting. The missing points I claimed a month ago and they have not been applied to my account yet. At this point it does not matter because I shall never fly with this airline again. I have disputed the charges now with my bank as I cannot sit around and wait for the airline to get back to me which they probably won’t. Horrible airline and horrible customer service and service onboard.

No customer service - Do not respect Montreal convention

@Etihad Airways – Real Customer Experience ✈️

I am sharing our experience here, transparently.

➡️ Return flight Bangkok → Brussels cancelled on Feb 28th ❌
➡️ 4 consecutive cancellations 🔁
➡️ 17 days stranded without a solution ⏳
➡️ Assistance stopped after 2 days while we were still stuck abroad 🛑

In the end, we were only rerouted to London after so many hours chassing them for a solution 🇬🇧, and had to make our own way back to Belgium at our own expense 💸.

For one of the passengers, the return journey had to be arranged via another airline, entirely at our own cost ✈️💸.

📅 As of today (April 29):

no refund for the cancelled flight ❌
no reimbursement for the alternative ticket ❌
no coverage of additional costs (hotel, transfers, etc.) 🏨🚕❌
no respect for Montreal convention
no response to our complaint 📭

👉 The most difficult part is not the initial cancellation, but the complete lack of follow-up and the extremely bad customer service:

no replies ⏰
conversations repeatedly interrupted 📵
customer service not providing any solution 🚫
repeated requests to move to private messages… with no outcome 💬❌

✈️ We did everything possible on our side:

accepted flexible destinations 🌍
agreed to be split into groups 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
asked for alternative routes via other airlines 🔄

I want to stress that all of this is fully documented 📄.

Today, we are simply asking for:
✔ proper handling of our case
✔ reimbursement of the expenses incurred 💰
✔ a clear and concrete response

I am extremely disappointed with Etihad !

I am extremely disappointed with my recent flight from Abu Dhabi to Cyprus with Etihad Airways.

For a 6–7 hour flight, I received:
- NO functioning in-flight entertainment (even the QR system did not work)
- Air conditioning was NOT turned on at the beginning of the flight
- Seats were extremely uncomfortable, with visible damage and exposed foam
- Food consisted of ONE sandwich only (cheese). I do not eat cheese, so I was effectively left without a proper meal for the entire flight

This is not a low-cost airline. Tickets on this route are expensive—yet the service was worse than budget standards.

What is even more disappointing is how Etihad handled the complaint. They dismissed everything by saying “no issues were reported onboard” and refused compensation without proper investigation. Then they simply closed the case.

This level of service and customer care is completely unacceptable for an airline that claims to be among the best in the world.

I have photographic evidence of the seat condition and the overall situation.

I would strongly advise others to reconsider before flying this route with Etihad.

Surprise visit to Paris

Surprise visit to Paris. Lisa had no idea I was taking her but funnily I had no idea either. Thanks Etihad for the free trip and putting us up for the night in the Charles de Gaul. It’s a lovely comfortable hotel where we’ve been meeting the many international doctors and engineers who stay here. It’s obviously fully booked so the hotel have kindly let them all sleep on the floor! It was a really enjoyable night and the way Etihad gave us our free flight to Paris by refusing us entry to our flight in Abu Dhabi to London has been greatly appreciated. Donating our seats to someone else in a random lottery they run has also been greatly appreciated. Lisa was so thrilled and happy she told the girl at the boarding desk she wanted to kill her, I mean kiss her! Etihad were so sure we’d love Paris that they didn’t think it necessary for us to go home to London so they really kindly told to arrange our own way home. This is probably just due them being an international airline which makes it quite difficult for them to put passengers on planes to destinations they’ve booked. If we do decide to return we will probably just get the Anglo Frano inflatable ferry service over. It will take less time and I’m hearing our government have a wonderful welcome package. We might even get 40k if we decide to go back to Charles de Gaul where we can stay at the lovely Sheraton hotel here in the Charles de Gaul. Very conveniently you can book a room by the hour. I don’t know why anyone might want a room by the hour but at 600 quid a night I guess on hour might be all they can afford. Anyway with the 40k we can stay there for quite a while.

Do not trust Etihad Airways

Do not trust Etihad Airways. When things go wrong, their true colors show. On Feb 28, flight EY102 departed Madrid but was forced to divert right back to the origin. Did Etihad step up to manage the crisis? No. We landed to find abandoned counters. Their ground staff literally hid and vanished to avoid dealing with stranded passengers.
​Is this the "premium" global airline experience they constantly advertise?
​They only crawled out of hiding 5 hours later because they had to dispatch a different flight. We were given absolutely nothing. No hotel accommodation. No food vouchers. Not even a bottle of water. Instead, their staff desperately handed out empty promises of a "100% immediate refund" just to pacify the crowd and clear the terminal.
​It was a lie. I am still waiting for my money. You failed to fulfill the carriage, you abandoned us at the airport, and now you are holding our funds hostage.
​PNR: ####. Have a corporate escalation manager contact me immediately, or my next step is a formal EU261 compensation claim with the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA) for severe regulatory violations.

Personnel incompétent.

J'avais acheté un billet d'avion pour le Cambodge. En arrivant à l'aéroport de Bruxelles avec 2 heures d'avances, je me suis rendu au guichet d'Etihad Airways pour faire enregistrer ma valise. C'était le soir et il n'y avait personne. L'employé (très sympathique au demeurant) m'a demandé si j'avais une escale. J'ai répondu que oui, à Rome. Alors il m'a dit d'aller au guichet pour Rome, ce qui était absurde mais je n'ai pas réalisé sur le moment. Le guichet italien était fermé. J'ai patienté pour m'entendre dire que je devais m'enregister au guichet de la compagnie avec laquelle je volais. Malheureusement il était trop tard et j'ai loupé l'embarquement. J'ai dû payer un supplément de 250 euros pour prendre un autre vol le lendemain. Le vol s'est relativement bien passé (temps de vol respecté) mais le personnel de bord semblait totalement blasé et pas du tout à l'écoute des passagers. Je me suis senti comme une simple marchandise à transporter d'un point à un autre.

Etihad is a FRAUD Airlines & they are CHEATING their customers. (PNR DUR6BJ)

I had booked a flight for my wife from Mumbai to London on Etihad Airways for the 3rd of October & return on 13th of October. The fair booked did not have a check-in luggage included & nowhere on their website were we able to add the check-in luggage. On contacting the airlines, we were told that the check-in luggage cannot be added in advance & we will need to do the same at the counter. On enquiring about the cost, we were told that the cost for the luggage would be max. 200$. We found this price very high & we could have booked an AirIndia or British Airways DIRECT flight for this extra, but did not have much choice as the travel date was only few days away.
On reaching the counter for the Check-In, we were informed by the staff that it will cost us Rs. 55,000/- (USD 650$) for check-in bag weighing 20 Kgs. This was ridiculous, but even after arguing with their manager for an hour, they did not even budge & as my wife was travelling alone & had a schedule ahead, we had to pay that amount.
Next day I talked to Yatra & my travel agent to cancel the return flight so that I can book another flight, but was informed that the cancellation fees is 100% & I will not get any refund, nor can I upgrade the ticket to a higher class which will include the luggage.
This means that the Etihad Airways wants me to pay a total cost of Rs. 1,70,000/- (USD 2000$) for an Economy class return flight from Mumbai to London. I can easily get a BUSINESS CLASS ticket on any reputed airlines for that price.

I have travelled the world to more that 70 countries, but have never experienced this type of shameless THEFT. This is absolute FRAUD being committed by ETIHAD AIRWAYS on unsuspecting customers.

All flyers kindly beware of ETIHAD & use it only if you want to be CHEATED. We will never use this airlines again as they are absolute FRAUDS.

Thrown off the flight

Only book with Etihad if you don't mind being thrown off your flight a day and a half before departure and rebooked to another airline. We deliberately booked an Etihad flight from Amsterdam to Phuket six months in advance because of the halfway stop in Abu Dhabi. A six-hour flight, two hours to stretch our legs, and then another six-hour flight. Ideal for older travelers like us.
However, Etihad sent an email a day and a half before departure that we had been rebooked on a Turkish Airlines flight, via Istanbul. Cancellation or rebooking was possible, but AT A CHARGE. The good news was that we were eligible for compensation. At least the final destination was the same, but the break with Turkish Airlines came after just three hours, meaning we had to fly for another ten hours straight. Canceling at such short notice wasn't an option for us, nor was rebooking. Besides, try contacting someone smarter than a chatbox! We had a rather stressful last day at home, having to reschedule taxis we'd already booked, as we were now flying and arriving three hours earlier.
Immediately upon arriving at our final destination, we contacted Etihad customer service, who simply told us that we'd accepted the Turkish flight and that the promised compensation was therefore excluded. Incidentally, to our great frustration, the flight we'd originally booked departed that day as scheduled!

The website gives ERROR - unable to change a flight which I paid for

I paid extra so that I could change my return flight, ref 9O98DW however I called like 5 times or more the customer service team and no one is able to help. They tell me once that the price shows only in local currency which is THB, then that there are not sits, than then they get error. Every time is a different story...
I was able to see the price to change the flight in EUR, so their information is not correct but when I try to make the change I keep getting error! This is a JOKE, how can your website give ERROR ? you are a big company that earns a lot of money and your website does not work? so I can not change my flight now ?
if you cannot invest in your website to have it work, how are your plains meant to be safe ?

Extremely Disappointed by Etihad…

Extremely Disappointed by Etihad Airways – Premium Fare, Poor Service, and No Accountability

I am writing this review to share my disappointing experience with Etihad Airways, following months of unaddressed complaints and an overall lack of professionalism.

In July 2025, I purchased an Economy Deluxe ticket (Booking Ref: 9GD9B3) for my flight from Bangkok to Paris via Abu Dhabi.
The ticket cost THB 31,950, significantly higher than the standard fare, as it included extra legroom, free date change, refund option, and priority services.

Unfortunately, the reality did not match what I paid for.

❌ No Extra Legroom

On both flights, I was assigned standard seats instead of the extra-legroom seat I paid for. Etihad later justified this by saying such seats are “subject to availability” — something that was never stated during purchase.
This is misleading and unacceptable when you pay extra specifically for that benefit.

⚠️ Cabin Discomfort and Safety Concern

On the Abu Dhabi–Paris leg, a plastic floor panel came loose near my seat, making the flight uncomfortable and unsafe. I reported it immediately and filed a complaint with photos attached, but no corrective action or apology was ever received.

💸 Free Change That Isn’t Free

When I tried to move my return flight from October 14 to October 12, I was told to pay THB 17,100, even though my ticket clearly stated “Free Change.”
Ironically, Etihad’s cheaper Comfort fare lists a maximum change fee of THB 12,350, proving inconsistency and lack of transparency.

🕒 Months of Silence and Inaction

I have now submitted three complaints:

#2507244808219 – closed without responsibility or compensation

#2509304917822 – no written reply despite multiple reminders on Facebook and X

#2510214955867 – submitted on October 21, 2025, still awaiting a proper answer

Etihad’s last response was a short, generic message that ignored the main issues and failed to offer any meaningful resolution.

⚖️ A Matter of Trust

This experience shows a serious lack of accountability from an airline that claims to offer premium service.
I expected professionalism and fairness — instead, I received excuses, silence, and broken promises.

Etihad Airways has lost my confidence.
I am still open to an amicable settlement, but until they take responsibility and honor what passengers pay for, I can only warn other travelers to think twice before booking “Deluxe” fares that may not deliver what’s promised.

I would like to share the worst…Worst and Anoyed Attitude from Etihad Lady manager at Dublin Airport

I would like to share the worst experience from the Ireland Etihad Dublin Airport to make travel to India with Family😥.Due to the Sure Name missing of mine, Myself and family was not allowed to travel on 20th June 2025, This was by the Dublin Lady manager at Etihad and I was the victim for racial discrimination. I have to book additional ticket and I have spend around Euro 4500 on top of that I have proof with me so Request Etihad team to investigate my case and looking for compensation in terms or Travel credit. Already 2 cases are open and several e-mail has send and no responses received so far.

Fantastisk personale

Jeg blev ombooket til Etihad via vores forsikringsselskab og blev noget nervøs da jeg læste anmeldelserne her. Jeg havde dog en særdeles positiv oplevelse hos Etihad. Virkelig lækre og nye fly. Personalet leverede en ekstraordinær god service og var meget hjælpsomme da jeg blev syg på flyveturen. Jeg rejste alene med to børn og til trods for sygdom var det trygt takket være personalet hos Etihad.

This used to be the best. I think it still is theNational Airline of U.A.E. but it is now disgusting.
STAY FAR AWAY!
In April 2024 I booked a ticket from South Africa to Thailand where I am a VOLUNTEER English teacher. No pay.
When I wanted to extend return date I was told I could not by Gotogate.com because I had somehow purchased a 90-day ticket so had to retun home or throw the ticket in the dustbin. Gotogate sent me to Etihad Airways because it was their ticket. Etihad Airways just kept on sending me back to Gotogate.com. I sent several emails of complaint to Etihad to ask how it could be possible that I bought a ticket for only 90 days, at full price, no discount, and now that I need to extend my return date I had to either use that part of the ticket or throw it in the dustbin. They refused to communicate with me and now I see that my emails are returned as "unread" which means they have now blocked me and refuse to even communicate.
I urge you to stay far away from this airline as the service onboard is also bad. Dirty toilets and unfriendly (self absorbed) cabin crew. Oh I know they are very busy but a smile or happy service when you ask for something goes a long way. From me a big GOODBYE Etihad.

I did as told and then it cost me 100 dollars to get it changed. These hidden fees are terrible and enough to make me dont wanna support Etihad.

Not the best Airline, but the worst airline.

I have never came across an airline which you con not contact the staff via phone. They say they are the best airline in the world, but my experience is nowhere nearer that. After trying days to contact the airline staff on the phone from Melbourne, I travelled to the city looking for their office. Their website sad the office is at Bourke Street in Melbourne, when I went there there was a sticker saying they have moved to Willians Street in Melbourne, and when I went there, no one was there. There was a 1300 number and that number won't get you anywhere. Their number-1 status is misleading. Very poor customer service. I will not recommend to my family and friends.

The worst experience ever

The worst experience ever . My both flight departure and return were delayed and we had to lay on the floor for 7 hours waiting for the alternative flight. Customer service is terrible as they don’t have a phone number to call and they do not andito any emails or complaints!!!

Ma PIRE experience en BUSINESS Class

Vol depuis Bangkok pour Abu Dhabi avec plus de 2 heures de retard,
30 degrés dans l'avion avant le décollage, obligé de relancer pour avoir enfin une coupe de champagne même pas fraiche, service nul en Business class,
donc connection impossible avec le vol pour Paris...obligé de rester 24 heures à Abu Dhabi sans valise car ETIHAD l'a conservé jusqu'au vol du lendemain.
Résultat: 40 heures au lieu de 16 pour rejoindre Paris!
Lounge petite à Abu Dhabi, impossible de trouver un siège ... et c'est leur hub !!!!!!
Retour ,premier vol de Paris à Abu Dhabi correct MAIS la suite a été un vrai cauchemar .

Le siege business 6D en plus d'être ferme c'est bloqué et impossible après la position laborieuse en lit de le redresser; le chef de cabine a fini par dire :il est cassé...impossible de se reposer et de changer de place car le vol était plein.
J'ai demander une compensation financière et le service et comme le reste déplorable et vous ballade tout le temps en faisant croire qu'ils comprennent le problème.
A FUIR ABSOLUMENT...
