I had an exceptional experience with Bridget

I had an exceptional experience with the reimbursement process following my flight cancellation during the winter storm in New York. Given how chaotic and stressful travel disruptions can be—especially during severe weather—I was genuinely impressed by how smoothly everything was handled.

From the moment I submitted my claim, Bridget ensured the process was clear, transparent, and efficient. She was responsive and empathetic, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the storm while guiding me through the necessary steps. Communication was timely, and I always felt informed about the status of my request.

What stood out most was the speed and fairness of the reimbursement. Despite the high volume of cancellations during the storm, my claim was processed quicker than expected, and the reimbursement accurately covered the eligible expenses without unnecessary delays or complications.

Overall, this experience turned what could have been a frustrating situation into a positive one. It’s reassuring to know that in times of unexpected disruption, there is a reliable and customer-focused system in place. I truly appreciate Bridget’s professionalism and efficiency throughout the entire process.

So tripmate got back to me.

So tripmate got back to me once again and insisted that I get a definitive reason why my United flight was canceled... Unfortunately United has a uniform reason why they canceled the flight.. no exact reasons but the flight was canceled. Unfortunately tripmate wants a decisive reason why they canceled the flight and that's how they get out of paying you. Beware.. they have all excuses to not pay you

Let me start with the good news

Let me start with the good news. Today, Ethel from TripMate called, and she was positively delightful and helpful, and helped us recover expenses that TripMate had earlier said were not reimbursable. So it was a relief to talk with someone as competent and service-oriented as Ethel.

Why only 3 stars? A bit expensive. At $450 per passenger, it was nearly $2000 for a family of 4. AllianzTravelInsurance.com charges that for an entire year of travel.

When we were stranded in a closed airport, we called to notify TripMate of the incident. The woman answering the phone made us feel like we were just another problem for TripMate.

When we initially submitted our claim, we received a long, long list of additional information to gather, such as a letter from the airport confirming our flight was cancelled! It gave us heartburn to learn that a photo of the airport's cancellation board did not suffice. The fact that the Amsterdam Airport made the news did not suffice. The fact that we had called from the closed airport did not suffice. FOR THAT MATTER, why couldn't TripMate just check with Viking because Viking helped us board alternate flights to get to the ship. Neither the boarding passes of our rerouted flights, nor the hotel receipts for staying at the airport were sufficient. We had to get a letter from the airline. Once we figured out how, it was actually easy. So why didn't TripMate simply request the letter from the airline instead of giving us so much anxiety and stress?

We selected TripMate because that is what Viking offered and we paid Viking directly. We assumed there would be some coordination, but we had to submit even Viking's final statements to TripMate.

We did a fairly good job of asking for receipts, but then I lost them. We were told that credit card statements were not sufficient! Thank goodness my wife found the receipts, because otherwise we would have been out of luck.

I lost a lot of sleep over this, having to do battle with TripMate. Thank goodness, in the end, Ethel called. She had reviewed all of our documents, statements, receipts and understood what needed to be done.

We expect checks to actually be sent to us. So thank goodness TripMate is not a scam, like the insurance company portrayed in the film The Laundromat.

Do NOT use this company!!

Do NOT use this company!!! We were stranded in Grenada at a Sandals Resort because AA canceled our flight at 3 am of the departure date. Sandals was very accommodating to let us stay an extra night. There is only ONE flight in and out of Grenada daily. We had NO option but to stay. We have had an absolute nightmare trying to get reimbursed from this company. They sent us a check for $150 pp when they have our receipt for $1030. I have contacted Sandals corporate office to request a refund for this insurance for next year as they are a scam!!!!!

Working with Trip Mate has been a most pleasant experience.

Working with Trip Mate has been a most pleasant experience - my wife and I had our 02/16 - 02/22 Aruba trip interrupted, in not being able to travel back home to New Jersey, due to suspended air travel / storms in the Northeast. We had to spend an additional five days / four nights, before traveling back to New Jersey. We take travel insurance, as we always purchase, and have never had to file a claim ... this trip, we did. The ease of the claim(s) process, and working with Ethel, really did streamline the claims / payment process. I would highly recommend this company.

Terrible Experience

I filed a claim with TripMate for a trip to Atlantis at Nassau Bahamas. The day I was scheduled to leave, on Sunday, 09.28.25 there was a verified storm which closed the Nassau Bahamas' airport. All fights there were canceled. Delta rebooked me and my travel companion the next day with no hassle or charge. Atlantis would not refund or extend my booking for the lost day, and advised me to utilize the travel insurance I had purchased. My experience with TripMate was frustrating. I was transferred to numerous representatives over the course of six months only to receive half of the cost of the day I lost through no fault of my own. Even through the entire hotel bill was on my credit card, I was told my travel companion had to file a separate claim, which was denied without explanation. Additionally, the claim was closed! My claim was straight forward. I only claimed the lost day, no other expenses. I do not recommend utilizing this travel insurance!

I would not never use the company

I would not vever use the company . My wife was daignosed with a severe contition 4 days before travel . Her doctor said absolutely no travel . Trip Mate was given good documents after her surgery with Doctor documenting and stating no travel .Trip Mate declined the claim . After 10 to 15 phone calls to AAA and more documentation Trip Mate said it was "under Review " We placed the claim end of June or beginning of July and the review took 8 months to FINALLY recieve a check
We had the stress of the medical condition and Trip Mate did a great job of increasing that strees for both my wife and I

This is legit a scam

This is legit a scam. I was stranded in NY and filed a claim and was reimbursed only about a quarter of what I had to spend on hotels, clothes, and food. Then I went to go get the measly amount they reimbursed me, I log in to find the payment canceled!
-100/10 will never go through them again and will tell everyone who will listen to not go with them. It’s a scam.

Edit: I was called by a customer service agent three times in a row which I missed since I was working. In her voicemail she assured me that the partial reimbursement was not canceled (even though it says canceled). We will see. Maybe I have this totally wrong. I’ll update when I get more information.

We got stuck in North Carolina airport

We got stuck in North Carolina airport, spent the night on the floor. Extended our stay by 1 night so we still got our 6 nights of vacation. All they reimbursed us was $117. The cost of our extra food. Our total request was around $600 & the insurance was $500. This was our 4th year purchasing the insurance and 1st claim. We will not be getting insurance next year.

This company and their so-called travel…

This company and their so-called travel protection is useless. I'm out $1700 for crappy service. Called up and waited 45 minutes on hold only to have the person hang up on me when he realized the claim would require more work than normal on their part. Called up on the next day. Person said he would have claims person who signed e-mail call me back. Never got a call back. Their business model, like so many other insurance companies, is obviously just to delay and deny. Have appealed but more information was supposedly needed. Have provided that information and am waiting but not holding my breath.
You'll see they respond on Trustpilot but it's the same stock phrase for everyone. Big promises but no delivery. One letter from them had the closing, "Warmest regards" like they were a long lost buddy or something. What bull****! Faux politeness doesn't equal service. Unless I can get some satisfaction, I will contact cruise line executives and discourage them from using this so-called insurance.

Nothing solved

It has been several months since I reviewed Trip Mate. My feelings haven’t changed. After my negative review I received a call from one of their adjusters telling me they never recieved the necessary documentation to review my case. I sent EVERYTHING to them they requested and nothing showed up even though I got emails they had received my information. She told me to resend what I had sent. She also told me to call if I had questions. I did, almost after I hung up. When I tried to contact her at the number she gave me it went directly back to their customer service people. They said they couldn’t connect me with Vanessa since she was an adjuster and they don’t let people directly speak with them. I was told she would call me back. Never heard another word. So I guess the only way to get their attention is to write a negative review. This ticket with CheapOair was a lot of money. I had insured the ticket. Shortly after my purchase I was told by my doctor I couldn’t fly. I sent the doctor’s paperwork with the information I needed. Now i only have a copy of that which I am told isn’t acceptable. What a runaround.

POOR communications - Trip Mate

My wife & I had a flight booked to Germany in late 25 out of LAX. We had our boarding passes but were denied access to our seats (business class) when we attempted to board. For some unknown reason our tickets had been cancelled and nobody could explain why. As a result we missed our flight, lost 2 paid hotel nights in Germany ($500 per night at least), transfers, and more.. We eventually were able to get a flight to Switzerland and on to Greece where we had to pay another night for hotel.

Filed a claim with Tripmate… provided email from Airline confirming we did not board….

Rec’d NO communication from Tripmate after calling them about our claim at least 6 or 7 times. No emails.. no calls…

After complaining to our travel agent about no getting any response from Tripmate, we finally got an email telling us they would “review” our claim.

Another month passes with no communication (email or phone).. went to their website and pulled our claim.

It said our claim was denied…. No reason given. Just TO bad!!!

Personally, I would NOT use this company for travel insurance… We paid over $3,000 for a recently trip to SE Asia for coverage and had no problem.

Large company who does not seem to well organized at all…. And will work to deny your claim if given the opportunity.

Very dissatisfied comster.

Trip Mate paid me zero, zip, nothing...

I paid Trip Mate $549 for insurance for my trip to Tunisia. While there, I passed out sick, hit my head, was unconscious, was seen by a doctor, had to be driven from Kairouan to Tunis and spend two nights in a hotel there before I was coherent enough to fly home. I lost $1,293.30 in airfare costs by having to fly home early and also had to pay for the additional early flight home to SFO. Do you know how much Trip Mate paid me? Zero, zip, nothing. They even questioned the $30 I paid to the doctor -- which is crazy-cheap compared to American doctors' prices for house (hotel) calls. And I documented my expenses too. I travel a lot. Next time I will use Allianz instead.

PS: Tunisia is WONDERFUL! I went on the Overseas Adventure Travel tour. Highly recommended.

Absolutely bad experience with medical…

Absolutely bad experience with medical claim. The company is trying continuously request more and more additional information until a customer is sick and tired of it and just stop loosing his time. Will never use this insurance again or recommend to anyone.

TripMate = TrustMate

I submitted a significant medical claim for a required shipboard hospital treatment and quarantine. After Medicare and Supplemental Insurance did not cover 98% of my expenses, I submitted the reimbursement request to Trip Mate. They reviewed the medical record that I sent them. Within a few short weeks, they approved my reimbursement, and I was paid. I could not be more pleased with the way they handled this.

Frustrating

I had a very frustrating experience with Trip Mate, spending hours on the phone repeating the same information and being shuttled to the tour company without being able to clarify the status with them. I received an email saying they were processing my claim a week after I received a letter saying they had sent the processed claim to my tour company, which had not received it from them. No one I spoke to could clarify anything, perhaps because the company is so disorganized. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but was told "she was not on the floor." I asked her to call me because I wanted to know what was going on, but never received a call.
