Today I visited my favourite perfume store at CR0 1UT in the Whitgift Centre, Croydon, and had such a wonderful experience. I was helped by Kriya, who was incredibly kind, cheerful, and helpful throughout my visit. Her warm smile and friendly attitude made the experience even more enjoyable.

I also want to highlight the store’s manager, who clearly leads by example – very customer-focused and committed to delivering great service.

This store never disappoints – from the wide selection of fragrances to the fantastic team. Highly recommended!

Trustpilot Review: The Perfume Shop – Croydon, Whitgift Centre

The only reason we went into the Croydon branch was to ask for a refund on a faulty perfume bottle purchased from a different branch. We were within the two-week return window and had the receipt. Straightforward, right?

Unfortunately, what followed was one of the most unnecessarily unpleasant customer service experiences I’ve ever had.

A male staff member, seemingly in a supervisory role, immediately dismissed the idea that the product might be faulty. Instead, he accused us of damaging it, claiming we must have dropped it and that the visible scratch proved this. He refused to consider any other explanation and proceeded to compare our request to someone crashing a car and then expecting to receive a refund. Yes, really.

This analogy wasn’t just ridiculous, it was patronising, inappropriate and disrespectful. Rather than listen, he doubled down, talking over us and insisting the item wasn’t eligible for return because it couldn’t be resold. That in itself was baffling: faulty items are returned to suppliers, not reshelved.

To top it off, both he and a colleague casually sprayed the perfume in-store while trying to “diagnose” the issue: spraying our bottle, which they were adamant we had ruined. The irony. But before this point, they attempted to fix the issue by simply replacing the nozzle. Note that the issue was a faulty atomiser, and merely replacing the nozzle was not a resolution for the issue.

At no point did they approach the matter with even a trace of care, respect, or professionalism. Just an unpleasant mix of arrogance, defensiveness, and zero interest in customer satisfaction. We eventually walked away, and not because we accepted their verdict, but because the entire exchange had become needlessly combative, upsetting and emotionally draining.

Update: We later visited a different branch, where we were met by a wonderfully kind and helpful manager who apologised for the inconvenience, confirmed the item was clearly faulty, and replaced it immediately. She sprayed it once, made a quick assessment, and at no point tried to flip the faulty product on to us. There was no drama. No suspicion. Just good service and common sense.

The stark contrast says everything.

The Croydon team we encountered should not be in customer-facing roles if this is how they handle a simple return: by blaming the customer, ignoring the facts, and turning an already disappointing product experience into something actively hostile.

A memorable experience, disappointingly for all the wrong reasons. If you ever need to return a faulty item, avoid this branch entirely.

The customer service was amazing. A very special thank you to ‘Roxy’ for all her help and she made perfume shopping a great experience. I would highly recommend anyone to shop there.

I went into the perfume shop looking for a floral fragrance for the summer and wasn’t really sure as there is soooo many. I asked a member of staff called Estrella who recommend so many lovely floral scents. I was so impressed by her knowledge of perfumes it was so vast. I have spoken to others (not from your store) in the past and they have not had the same knowledge and I have left with nothing.

I definitely will be returning and I am excited to ask Estrella about more perfumes. She is also very polite, patient, kind, professional and a pleasure to be around

The perfume shop in central Croydon was amazing . Nashad and kriya made shoping for the fragrance I want very fun and easy. Can you imagine nashad knew all the perfumes scent all from her head. I could not believe it.
