No policy or awareness to address coercive behaviour among students. In fact those who openly coerce and bully other vulnerable students are lauded for being "exceptional role models" and given awards !!
I am one of their student for their Online Adult Courses Programme Learner under Adult Education where a £50 voucher is offered on completion of course.
Yet the efficiency of delivering this voucher as promised to learners like me is extremely appaling. I should not be having to do repeated follow-ups on this simple matter and as such am greatly disappointed.
If we are to have deadlines for your courses, I do expect that you respect your committed deadlines to learners like us. I will not recommend.
My biggest mistake was training here! I am now a fully qualified hairdresser thanks is to another training company. Teachers don’t know what’s going on and they judge you for not knowing something. No support during your training and left in the dark during covid. Older students took time to teach me as the tutors didn’t have the time of day. Made me completely fall out of love with my career. Avoid.
Hairdressing course: don't waste your time joining your daughter on this course. It is the most disorganised setup causing confusion for students with teachers not turning up, no set timetable, paperwork not done. Tests results not given out on time.
I tried myself organising a model haircut with the college myself and despite several phone calls I still cannot book in a hairdo in their salon - so my daughter cant even practice! She is passionate about hairdressing but is starting to go off the idea having experienced this messy setup. What a shame. An Apprenticeship it appears is far more useful. If she had known this at the beginning she would not have wasted a year.
Retaking my GCSE as an adult was a daunting prospect but Helen my maths tutor is a dream! I’d recommend this course to anyone! She’s a fab tutor and the course is, dare I say it, quite enjoyable!
The college itself has a very easy joining process and keeps in contact with you throughout the sign up phase. Excellent location and a lovely building. No complaints here at all.
Although I know of some great staff, in my opinion there are significant question marks over the current governance and culture at the College. In my opinion it has been excessively secretive (refusing to answer reasonable questions, then reluctantly providing them - sometimes very late, and in several cases inconsistent and incorrect- under Freedom of Information (FoIA) requests, finally refusing to provide answers to such requests). I also have very significant concerns over the fairness and fitness of the current operation of the College's Complaints Policy. In a recent case: a refusal to consider some items complained of, an insistence on binding all parties involved in the complaint to secrecy (I did not agree to this as no mention was made of this in the Complaints Policy), closing the investigation early without notice, an outcome letter which stated that no witnesses had come forward to support my complaint (I had provided details of several who had NOT been contacted by the College or investigator) and that email evidence (which I had provided) was unreliable because "Email communication invariably results in misinterpretation as there is no body language to support its content." (That is an astonishing statement: courts of law would beg to differ - email and other written evidence is often more reliable than verbal evidence). Despite this (in my opinion) extremely unsatisfactory process, the College refused any appeal. When I protested about the lack of fairness in the process, the College refused to consider the matter any further, said it would ignore any future correspondence from me, and refused my request to pass on my concerns to its Board, and has twice threatened me with litigation! In my opinion this behaviour is inappropriate for a publicly funded body and charity. I feel a duty to speak out about this very unsatisfactory experience so that others can be forewarned.
As one simple example, my wife was dismissed in May 2017 after 13 years of dedicated service, without thanks or notice or explanation, a day after raising concerns informally about the behaviour of her line manager. She felt that her concerns had been listened to and that things were going to improve, but was dismissed in this callous way, much to the dismay of several pupils and their parents. To add insult to injury, to this day (13 May 2018), more than a year later, the College still advertises her as teaching that course on their website! This is despite my asking them several times to correct this false advertising.
The College's staff, students and parents deserve far better than the current culture which is rotten and toxic in my opinion.
