I was able to open a checking account with extreme ease on line. I was also able to get my SSI Disability transferred from my previous bank to my new bank without having to call the IRS!!!

Data breach reveals personal financial information to cyber criminals including SS numbers, etc.
I was just informed by South State Bank that there’s been a data breach and that my Social Security number, account number, and other identifying information was accessed by cyber criminals. This is not so awful in this day and age given that Equifax has already exposed 145 million of us to cyber criminals; nevertheless, South State Bank has failed in the most basic of ways — by failing to protect customers’ personal financial and information, earning them a one star review.
In all fairness, I must say that they offered me “compensation“ in the way of one year of identity theft protection which is worth about $4.99 a month retail, which is really not much in the way of compensation given a data breach of this nature.

You aren’t just another account
I had a bad experience with a massive, large-market bank so I moved all of my assets to Southstate. I have been to s few of their branches across the southeast and the one in Mooresville NC is the best. The folks there know my first name and go above and beyond to make me feel like a friend instead of just another account.

They suck
They suck. Move you transactions around which only messes up your money a tiny bit but all that adds up. They charge unfair fees. Customer service SUCKS. Watch them very closely if you bank here.
