Okay budget option for single household

I've used southern phone for about a year now and haven't had the best experince with them. They were the cheepest provider at the time and the plan came with a free router so that was a big plus at the time, so if you are on a tight budget, this isn't the worst option.

In my first month, I had a lot of contectivity issues. I called to complain and a services representative was able to assist me in editing the optimisation settings and then internet worked much better through the period.

There were some issues where the network would be down on some days for 2-4 hours. Whilst infrequent, it was frequent enough to be a nuiscenes for someone who works from home.

My main issue is at times, the live chat customer service is quite poor. I was advised that I can cancel my plan on a particular date and not receive any charges. I cancelled on the date but still received a bill for the full month. After requesting a refund, they completely ignored my initial questions and advised that they can only give a partial refund. So I'm quite dissapointed with the customer service.

Regularly getting below 1Mbs on a NBN 50 plan. Their technician said it’s because my modem was plugged into a 4x power outlet…. Ridiculous! They would not admit it was there congested system. I’ve had much faster NBN before and after. I gave them three weeks notice of a cancellation date… They did not cancel the plan and kept debating my account. I complained and was eventually refunded but then they sent me over overdue payment notices and threatened me with a bad credit rating. This company has no systems in place to deal with something as simple as cancelling a service. And guess what… They say it’s my fault they didn’t cancel the service, I need to tell them more often.

If there was a zero I’d provide them zero. I had a plan with 45$ per month. Initially, I paid almost around 70$ even though the plan was of $45 as it was initial cost for the plan then plan would be of $45 was told by the company. I closed my account with 1 month earlier before my next pay date but they said I need to the closing account fee and and i paid 99$ and still i have move out place have not used any internet and they sent me $24 bill. Nobody should use this internet.

From good to terrible

I pay for a bill to be sent to me. I also inadvertently get charged for paying at the pist office. My bill this month turned up 4 days late. I had to use an old bill to make a late payment. I rang and spoke to a service operator, couldn't understand a word he said and be ause of that he hung up on me. When it was owned by Southern Phone many years ago it was a great company with Australian employees. As soon as AGL took over the service went to crap.Been with them 19 years. Seriously, fix your service.

The demise of a once great phone providor.

I have been with Southern Phone for 20 years back when it was an Aussie company. After leaving Telstra the service was amazing. Their call service was staffed by australians who cared enough to want to help you. Since AGL took over this has changed dramatically. Their customer service is non existant , only a pretend effort at best.It is now worse than telstra ever was. Their internet is terrible. You get cut off regularly. They have too many customers and the banswidth cant cope. They are charging you for a service that they cannot provide fulltome.

Robbing my money

Robbing my money, charging my account again and again. Called for a refund, they said to contact my bank. Keep taking money. POSSIBLY A SCAM COMPANY. ACCC need to investigate this company for robbing customers and dodgy contracts + no communication

Do not use Southern Phone as an internet provider

After switching to Southern Phone we have never regularly received the download speeds we pay for, spent hours on the phone on several occasions and followed all advice re reset, with no obvious fix.We were told we could request a technician to check the set up, this was cancelled after being told the NBN had remotely resolved the issue. The issue has NOT been resolved I am currently receiving download speeds of 50% of what I pay for. I keep requesting a technician to attend onsite with no success. My advice would be DO NOT get satellite NBN via Southern Phone. It could be that the NBN satellite service is just poor but I also received poor customer service from Southern Phone.

The internet service was unreliable

The internet service was unreliable. The connection was slow and frequently interrupted without notice. I work from home, and this affected my work many times. On one occasion, I had no internet for two days and was not informed of any outage. I only found out after calling customer service for clarification.
I also missed a payment before the due date. A few days later, I called 13 14 64 and made the payment through their system. Despite this, I continued to receive SMS messages saying the payment had not been made and asking me to pay double the amount ($140 instead of $65).
I contacted them and emailed a screenshot of the receipt showing the date, time, and reference number, as requested. However, they did not accept this and asked for a bank statement to prove the money had been deducted. I then had to contact my bank to request an up-to-date statement outside the normal cycle. I don’t like this idea at all cos I don’t few comfortable to share my daily uses.
Couple days later, the bank got back to me. I reacted all my other personal transactions and forwarded the bank statement to the email that I sent the receipt earlier but no response. I later discovered that the previous email address was for one-time use only, so I had to resend the statement to a new email address that they gave me. Even then, it was still not enough. They then asked for the first 6 and last 4 digits of my bank card used for the phone payment and asked me the receipt again. I was so upset but still have to provide the details of my bank account to get things done.
The entire process was extremely time-consuming and frustrating. If the company does not trust its own payment system, they should not use it.
I rarely leave feedback, but this experience was an exception. I do not recommend Southern Phone and regret not reading their reviews before signing up.

Poor unreliable customer Service from there call centreer on the…

I called there support Center on the 26thDec to have my Sim card reset as it was asking for a PUK code. They advised me this would be possible as it was a public holiday and would not be able to reset my phone until Monday. This is poor customer service to expect to be with out a mobile until Monday a working day. Southern Phones you need to raise our expectations to Australian Standards and not overseas standard. Your lost a customer for Good.

Dial up is faster than Southern Phone

For many months now I have put up with the BS of their poor customer and support service. There is always no problem on their end to the fact that they advised me to get a new router but still had connectivity issues. Wish I had come here to read before connecting with Southern Phone.

Do yourself a favor, look elsewhere,. . . . . . anywhere else

My 80yo mum has been with Southern for years. They recently upgraded her NBN in the area. Her landline phone stopped working bc of it. For a couple of weeks she hadnt noticed, I thought her handpeice was the problem, so went and spent$108 on a new one for her, this didnt work either, after 3 or 4 phone contacts with Support, and the promise of tomorrow tomorrow, it has now been over 2 months of waiting for some so called specialist to call us back the next day. It never happens. I cant imagine what sort of headaches theyd give her if we didnt pay our bill for a couple of months. As far as Im concerned they owe her for the landline she pays for but hasnt had now for months, they owe her the $108 for a phone that she didnt need to replace, and theyve endangered an 80 year old widowers health, which is the main reason we have left the landline on for emergency contacts and alarms etc. STILL SHE HAS NOT HEARD FROM THEM, 3 MONTHS ~ If I have my way the minute I find her a better Telco shes changing from this pathetic mob of pirates

Over 2 weeks for a Static IP

Southern Phone is taking too long to give my my Static IP address. I applied for it 2 weeks ago. Multiple chats, 5 phone calls, and many broken promises. I can't see our relationship lasting beyond the current contract term.

Great new change to Southern Phone

I recently changed from Superloop to Southern Phone and had a good experience from the SP team to do this.
Onboarding was quick. I had a few issues with my EERO modem setup (mainly due to my previous setup) But the SP team worked tirelessly to get it sorted I was up and running by day 3 as it was a weekend.
Today is nearly around two weeks+ since i had been using the service and it has the perfect speed as i have subscribed to Upload/Download.
I would highly recommend those who wish to either give them another go. The price is very good and the new EERO 7 that you can also get as a bonus if you keep them for 12 months is awesome.

These USELESS CLOWNS should be banned from advertising internet "services". We have had nothing but frustrating, time-wasting from each and every one of Southern Phones employees. They are frighteningly incompetent. ENGAGE THEM AT YOUR PERIL.

Terrible and left me without internet and are uncontactable on the weekend

Couldn’t get payment to work on the website so ordered through the live chat so went through everything again ordered to take over my existing service and upgrade to hypefast. Instead I got cut off on a weekend with no way to contact anyone and no communication to tell me what was happening. Signed up with launtel instead yes they are more expensive but they actually have people who know what they are talking about manning customer services and are contactable on the weekend. Contrast the experience I was able to get connected immediately and had my NTD upgraded three days later.

Reduced the speed after promotional nbn service…

After recent promotional nbn service purchase they have reduced the speed. When i contacted technical services, the waisted my 1 hour of time telling me they will remotely resetting NBN box and modem. Now they try to justify that by mentioning you need to upgrade your connection. Now connection is lagging and video is buffering always. Technical team is worse to provide service to the customers
