The Good-Less than Perfect ideal Somnee sleep device

Disclaimer, I am a fan of Dr Matt Walker.

I like somnee technologies and transparency but it’s far from perfect from my perspective.

I am using Somnee to help manage COMISA sleep maintenance. I don’t have issues to fall asleep but difficulties stay asleep and get back to sleep middle of the night.

Somnee device improvement suggestions:

1 headband is too bulky, try to use slim adjustable straps

2 option to integrate with black out mask (preferably cushion for eyelashes)

3 the small gel on EEG tends to falloff easily, not sturdy design; also the 3 metal spots is causing some bruising, use smooth metal interface instead

4 headphones are good; further refinement (a) continuous play and link to sleep signals to automatically turn off (b) option to program different tone/music/podcast

5 the app interface not as user friendly as I expected

I appreciate that the customer service…

I appreciate that the customer service is a person and not an auto response. App is easy to navigate. I like the ability to look at past days for overnight reports and have the option to see my sleep change has been helpful on my wellness journey.

Horrible company

Horrible company. I had to email them 4-5 times and report them to the bbb to even get them to give me a return label. Then they called me a liar. Worst experience. DO NOT BUY from them.

As we communicated then and is noted in our return policy, refunds are initiated once we receive the return at our warehouse. We received your package March 19th and sent a confirmation that your refund was now being processed.

They tried to scam me

They tried to scam me. I reached out to them within 45-day risk free return trial period - they just did not respond. I had to raise a dispute with my bank. Stay away from them!

We let you know that Somnee is currently only available within the U.S. As outlined in our return policy, devices purchased domestically but shipped internationally through third-party services aren't covered by our 45-day risk-free trial.

Repeated emails and no resolution

Repeated emails and no resolution. I have asked for invoice and help with the order numerous times. They said that I need to get invoice from shop pay. There is no invoice in shop pay. I contacted them again and again and they say that they don't have access to my order, which is nonsense. Said that I have to contact shop pay. I contacted them and got the response ,,If your order still doesn't appear, you should contact the store you purchased from directly, as they are responsible for fulfilling your order and providing invoices or receipts. You can also contact the shipping carrier if you have a tracking number." SO WHAT IS HAPPENING. I lost my patience, I am no negative review writing type, but they made me so angry. ANDDD because I cannot see my order in shop pay, there is no availability to cancel their stupid subscription if I want to.

The product is amazing

The product is amazing - after having tried multiple different approached for improving sleep quality - Somnee has made the only long-lasting impact. The support team is very helpful and friendly.

Love my Somnee a lot! Recommend

I usually don't write reviews for products, but I couldn't help but write something for Somnee as it has had quite the positive impact on my sleep.

I am someone who doesn't necessarily struggle with bad sleep, but their are definitely some nights where I toss and turn more than I would like, and when I saw Somnee was developed at UC Berkeley, I figured why not give it a try.

At first, the headband took a little getting used to, but after probably just the 3rd night, I would fall asleep and forget it was even there. The stimulation has become a pleasant staple to my nighttime routine and the bone conductive speakers really give quite the unique meditative experience.

My Oura ring has shown improved deep sleep and higher quality of restfulness, and I can definitely feel it. I feel more energized in the mornings and by the time bed time comes around I am excited for my session. I full recommend to anyone who wants to take their sleep to the next level.

The biggest difference I feel is in my level of focus and patience the next day. I can focus more at work and I'm more patient with my kids. I might not have picked up on this if not for noticing that I feel like when I *don't* wear it. I'm not really one that cares about sleep scores or anything like that, so I was actually really impressed that something improved my sleep without making me groggy the next day and in fact, does the exact opposite. Like we're supposed to feel when we sleep well! It's pretty remarkable. I also had a question about the app and the support team was really helpful, so that's cool.

Somnee helps with sleep, but stopped working. Company does not provide support.

The Somnee headband actually helped me with sleep. Unfortunately it stopped working after about 4 months.

I can’t get any help from Somnee though. Somnee doesn’t have a phone number to call. I’ve emailed them three times now. I’ve emailed with their online support email address and through the app directly. I have yet to receive a response. I got the full year subscription so most of that will be a waste it would seem.

edit: they did reply that they looked into it and did email me back. I can't find any reply in my spam or other folders, though. If Somnee sees this please send me another email.

Tech did quite work, excellent customer support

Overall I am very impressed with Somnee from a customer support perspective, optimistic for the tech, but the v1 design was not for me.

I used their first version with the manual electrodes, with mixed success. When I could get the electrodes to stick properly the tech for sure had a positive influence on my sleep. However, the design was tough to use and it was very difficult to get a good connection. This lead to missed session recording and an ineffective experience.

I had passed the 45-day window and was very nervous they would reject any request for refund. I was very pleasantly surprised when they were very helpful about the return. The support I received was top notch and I felt like they were interested in doing the right thing for their customers. It gave me the confidence to try their products again in the future.

They have since released a v2 which looks much more robust. I will probably try it after the holiday season rush is over.

Not worth it…

I decided to return the headband after one night. This product may help some, although I suspect this may be partly due to just feeling like the device might help. I just realized that the tech is probably going to annoy me more than help me. The customer support is also not great and that is what ultimately convinced me to return the headband. They also never sent the travel case.

First off, thank you for sharing your feedback. We try our best to ensure every customer has a seamless journey to better sleep with Somnee, and are sorry to hear this was not your experience.

Our approach to personalized neurostimulation has been clinically validated to improve sleep onset, depth, and wake-ups — beyond the effects of melatonin, sleeping pills like Ambien, and placebo.

For this reason, it’s understandable why you didn’t see benefits on night 1.

To decode your brain’s unique sleep ‘sweet spot’ and build your personalized neurostimulation, Somnee needs 2-7 sessions to establish a baseline for your brain’s optimal sleep signals, and between 14-21 sessions for personalization. So while some sleepers may see benefits after just one night, the majority of our community see the biggest improvements after 14-21 sessions.

If you’re not used to wearing a headband overnight, it can take a few nights to adjust to the feeling. That being said, we understand that Somnee may not be right for everyone.

Regarding our travel case, we communicated the 2-3 week delay on our website and comms, but are sorry we were not able to deliver your case sooner.

Support and Return Positive Experience

I ordered my Somnee 8/26/2025. I received it 9/2. Support has been very helpful and responsive. I had been using it consistently when I received an email about upgrading to the newer version. Now I was faced with the decision about returning my recently received device and ordering the newer version. I chose to return my device since I was still in the refund period. My only recommendation would have been to let me know there was a new version on the horizon when I initially ordered. Support was, again, very responsive and I now await my new device. I have not reached a final verdict on whether it is helping me sleep but I have not fully gone through the Personalization phase yet. Happy so far….

Prompt & helpful customer service!

I placed an order. Then, while waiting for the device to arrive, I had to make changes to that order. I contacted customer service and heard back from a very knowledge and helpful person the same day. How refreshing! Prompt and helpful! Chris went above and beyond to address my issue. I'm looking forward to receiving and using the device. I'll leave another product review later.

I love my somnee headband

I love my somnee headband! Their customer service is attentive and quick. They are very understanding and eager to help when anything is wrong. At first I wasn’t feeling like somnee was helping and I almost returned it. They asked why and I explained. They offered to change some settings on their side after hearing my specific issue and it worked. Before somnee I was sleeping 2 hours a night and now I think I probably get a total of 6 hours! Highly recommend! And if you have any problems at all, before you give up on it send them a message and give them a chance to help!

Somnee has really improved my sleep

Somnee has really improved my sleep, increasing it by 1–2 hours each night. It did take some time to calibrate to my individual brain patterns, but once that was done, the results were excellent. I now use it just before going to sleep, and it’s made a noticeable difference in the quality and duration of my rest.

Somnee headband

Somnee headband: total scam.

Paid $400, got a dead hunk of plastic after three weeks. It won’t power up and won't connect.

Support? A broken record. Same “try charging it, schedule a 15‑minute call” copy‑paste every single time. Change the electrodes. I already jumped through every hoop. The thing is still a corpse.

Asked for a replacement or a refund—straight‑up stonewall. They won’t do either unless I waste more time on their pointless video call.

Hours lost swapping electrodes, hard‑resetting, and arguing with canned responses. Zero help, zero accountability.

Save yourself the headache: avoid Somnee.
