Obstructive onboarding, pseudo-technical gatekeeping, and poor accessibility

I registered for an account with Telxi (the enterprise voice/SIP brand operated directly by Intergo Telecom Ltd, the parent company behind SMS.to) to set up a low-volume, inbound SIP trunk for home use. Because I live in a basement flat with zero mobile signal, a wired VoIP connection is my only reliable method for receiving calls.

I fully completed and passed their strict identity verification via Sumsub and submitted all necessary service orders. Despite being a fully verified, legitimate user seeking a single £1.00/month line, my onboarding was repeatedly blocked by a support engineer named Sebastian.

Rather than conducting a genuine engineering review of my connection, the support team subjected me to rapid, textbook lectures on network jitter and bufferbloat. In my opinion, these responses appeared to be generated by an AI assistant rather than a human engineer. They asserted that my basement location would cause network connectivity issues—completely ignoring the basic technical fact that a basement blocks wireless cellular signals, not a physical, hardwired 273 Mbps fibre broadband connection.

The underlying product or network itself might be completely fine, but you run a high risk of being held hostage by highly irrational support staff. Alarmingly, their internal escalation system lacks any real oversight; when I filed a formal complaint about this engineer's obstructive behaviour, their ticketing system simply routed the complaint straight back to the exact same agent I was complaining about.

As an autistic individual, I found their rigid, pedantic, and argumentative communication style incredibly difficult to navigate. A stable landline is a necessary accessibility requirement for me, yet they refused to make any reasonable adjustments to facilitate my onboarding.

When I formally escalated the matter further and requested a GDPR Subject Access Request (SAR), their immediate reaction was to close my active support tickets, terminate my account, and issue a refund rather than address their systemic customer service failures.

If you are a developer, an independent user, or neurodivergent, be warned: this group (Intergo Telecom / SMS.to / Telxi) will happily harvest your sensitive KYC data, only to arbitrarily deny you service and shut down your account the moment you challenge their support staff's technical claims. Truly shocking customer service.

Successfully completing identity verification is one part of our onboarding process: it does not, in itself, qualify an applicant to receive service. A verified business case is equally required, and in this instance, that requirement was not met.

For transparency: the decision to close the account and issue a full refund was communicated to the applicant before any GDPR Subject Access Request was submitted. The two are unrelated. The SAR has since been acknowledged and is being handled by our Legal and Compliance team within the statutory timeframe and this was also communicated to the client.

Deciding not to provide service to an applicant who does not meet our eligibility criteria is not poor customer service — it is responsible business practice. We refute any suggestion of GDPR non-compliance or discriminatory treatment.

We are unable to discuss account-specific matters in a public forum. Our Legal team remains the appropriate point of contact.

Couldn't even get into the platform!

They automatically declined my sign up, had to contact support for which every time I wrote an email there was 1 day delay for the messages, once they thought they had resolved the problem closed the ticket but the same issue prevailed. Had to contact again where they asked for personal information just to verify the initial sign up which did not require any of that information.

Mediocre and Untrustworthy

I've created a new account and I tried to send a test SMS, but it did not work; the message never arrived. Support said they were looking into it. They asked their provider, and it's been a month or more since this happened. I've never heard back from them. This is really an unreliable service.

I’ve been trying to reset my password for over two months. The support team keeps sending me a password reset link that expires in one hour, but the link never works.

I’ve explained the issue several times, but nothing has been fixed. Very poor support and frustrating experience.

One of the Worst SMS Service Experiences – Undelivered Campaign and Partial Refund

I paid $50 to SMS.to for a bulk SMS campaign and had a truly disappointing experience. I launched a campaign that cost $25, and not a single SMS was delivered to the intended recipients. There was no clear explanation excepted that the process was being reviewed. Bespoke review taking weeks and their support offered minimal assistance.

To make things worse, when I requested a refund for the remaining $25 credit that was unused, they only refunded $15 — without a clear reason or justification.

This experience was both frustrating and unprofessional. I lost money, time, and trust in this platform. I would strongly advise others to avoid using SMS.to, especially for important campaigns. Poor delivery reliability and partial refunds are simply unacceptable in this space.

Bad attitude, dishonest, penny pinching

They shut down their fax service and then refused to refund a few dollars of credit I had remaining in my account.
I did all the research and work to find the means that would have enabled them to easily do that free or at a cost of only a few cents, but all I got was every excuse in the book for why they would not refund what belonged to me after they cut off the service I paid for.
Cheats who are to be avoided and who do not have the good sense to know bad reviews are more costly than a few dollars that did not belong to them.
I was just reminded to leave this review after they contacted me to say my SMS account will now also be suspended.
These people are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Update 20/05/2024: Reply noted. I am happy with my review as it stands. I would have left it for Intergo Telecom, the overall controlling corporate entity, if it had an active profile here. I gave you a chance to be reasonable and refund my funds after you discontinued the fax service, but you baulked at the chance and concocted excuses.

Our Fax service was operating from 2015 until 2023 where it reached its end of life. We tried hard to maintain the service but the commercial cost of maintaining it outweighed the benefit.

You had $3.87 in your account that you paid back in 2019. Past 6 months we can't refund to the original payment method as its practically not possible via the processors we are using.

Since you are a customer of also our SMS.to business you received an email that your account will be inactivated for your security because there was no usage for over 6 months.

We can transfer your $3.87 as credit to your SMS.to account and you can use it as you please. To do this please open a new ticket at support@sms.to
