A positive review
I was in the market for a pair of everyday wear boots that look decent and wouldn't make me cry if they were scuffed. I found some on simplwear.com.
Did my due diligence and looked them up on Google who said they were reputable so I went ahead and ordered. My receipt, however, came from Ash-New York. Upon looking them up I was met with a deluge of horror stories. The next day, no joke, I looked up simplwear again and Google said they were likely a scam. Thanks Gemini.
My first thought was, "oh God, did I just give my card number to scammers?" So I did more research. I have not seen any indication they are misusing peoples' cards.
My boots arrived today and I'm pretty pleased. They look good and look like the picture. They seem well made. My only complaint is that they are a little small. I take a size 9 US, but the charts on the website were all European. Had to measure my foot and pick a European size. The boots I received are labeled size 8 US. They fit, but are a little tight. Good news is they are real leather so they should stretch with time, but I wish simplwear would just use US sizing.
Now, I paid $60 for these boots with no sales tax and free shipping. They came all the way from China. So somewhere along the way tariffs and shipping were paid, so the real value of the boots is likely less than $60. But I'm happy. They're comparable to something one would get from Target or Walmart. The leather, while real, is not very thick. It's similar to some expensive dress shoes I once owned. If you want $300 quality boots then pay $300. For what I paid and what I wanted, I'm satisfied.
As for the company, I've seen no indication of fraud and received what I ordered. My order also arrived quickly considering the distance shipped. A YouTube video about Ash-New York indicates they are a new company trying to find their feet and may be having issues with consistent manufacturing.
Would I order from them again? Yes. But just be aware that you should probably order a size or two larger than what you actually wear. The size issues people have reported may be linked to the difficulty securing a consistent manufacturer.
I can't speak for other people, but I am happy. Had the boots been one size larger I'd have given simplwear 5 stars.
