Shurgard Self Storage - Hedge End Recensioni 

We initially called in a few weeks ago to chat face to face about our storage needs, which we would have in a few weeks time. We are moving house and downsizing and will need storage capacity while we decide what we have space for in our new house. Our experience was very good. The staff were very helpful and we were able to look around at the options for storage size. We eventually booked our storage unit online 9 days ago which was a very straightforward process. We downloaded the App and got ourselves registered with ease. On Monday we took our first load of stuff to the unit. We were helped to navigate our way through the initial process by the staff on duty. It all worked very smoothly and we are now able to continue to load up the unit over the next few weeks. The facility is clean and secure. We are very happy with our choice.

Made life so easy to store our goods when moving house. The store I had was very clean and well looked after, access was so easy so would definitely recommend them.

Some initial issues reserving our unit that left me frustrated and stressed, but all good on the day of moving in. Staff are lovely and the app works well.

I have nothing against the team at Hedge end Shurgard- I do have a thing or two to say about my experience overall with this company.. I am only giving one star because I am thoroughly ticked off about the extortionate and completely greedy price rises during my just over year long unit use.
I initially felt that at £79 a month for a 50 sq ft unit was okay.... Then the interim price rises crept on with sneaky letters saying " important information about your invoice"...
The first rise was from £79 to £98.25... that's a 25% increase! For what exactly?!
So okay, I thought, I'll soak that one up... Then another rise from £98.25 to £128!!!!!
That's another 30% price rise. OUTRAGEOUS.
In my time renting this unit, that was equal to a 62% percentage increase on my initial rental.
How can you get away with that, Shurgard?! It defies justification... Everything has gone up but that is pure greed.
So I made space in my garage and decided it was time to leave.
If the ridiculous price rise had not come, I'd still be renting. Makes no sense to me at all. I can only assume they bank on the fact that people cannot move their stuff to another location, or it's a lot of hassle so take advantage.
If I need storage again in the future - I will not be using Shurgard as a result and will actively avoid.. Loyalty works both ways.

Edit in reply to Shurgard: My unit was always full..I had no need to change or downsize my unit. My issue was very unreasonable price rises over a short period for something I needed and was the correct size. Shurgard does not address the concerns contained in the review at all.

Renting a unit from SHURGARD in Hedge End online was incredibly easy. All the information I needed to rent, the moving in process, app, invoices/payments etc was clear to see. The email correspondence to confirm the rent, the contract, how to access unit etc was incredibly straightforward and helpful. I received a call/voicemail from Karen the following day of moving in to check if everything was ok with the unit as well as the move in and if I needed anything to not hesitate to ask - this was a nice courteous touch and made you feel that you can reach out to the Team at Hedge End with anything no problem.

I would wish to point out that I had no problem with the staff on site at Hedge End who I found courteous and helpful. My low rating is against Shurgard the company.

Last December I rented a 200 sq ft unit at just over £300 per month which was inclusive of insurance. Within a matter of months this had mysteriously risen to £338 per month without explanation, which was my first concern with this company.

Back in October I was persuaded by my son to investigate moving to a smaller unit to reduce my costs. On the 6th October I obtained a quote from Shurgard to transfer to a 100 sq unit at £244 per month inclusive of insurance which was worth the effort

You are not permitted to make a transfer during a weekend so the earliest my helpers were available on a weekday was the 19th November. So on the 17th November I checked to ensure there were still 100 sq ft units available and what the price was now. I was shocked to learn that the price including insurance had risen to £328 per month meaning I would save just £10 a month for all of the effort of transferring my storage.

I therefore decided to vote with my feet, hired a van, cleared out my unit and moved to a smaller unit with a competitor for just £150 per month including insurance for 3 months rising to £240 per month. You can do the maths on the savings I will make once the van rental has been paid!

To add insult to injury even though I paid my last £338 monthly fee to Shurgard in advance back on the 6th November and had freed up the unit 16 days in advance, there was no rebate forthcoming, which was implied by their stating you can cancel at short notice and was probably hidden in the small print.

To be fair to Shurgard the quote I received on the 6th October did come with a warning that prices might rise but by nearly a £90 per month in just a few weeks?

Everything went smoothly. The first unit alloted was not good as it had an I beam in it. They mooved my booking to another unit which was the correct size.

I had excellent and friendly service from Jeff on my visit. I had mislaid my keys and he cut off the padlock and provided a new one. He gave immediate service on production of my ID, and I was able to access my locker within about 5 minutes of my arrival. The staff are always friendly here, and keen to help.

I needed a unit to store personal items long term at a reasonable cost. It was a quick and straight forward sign up process. All prices are visible on their website and what you see is what you pay. Account and access to unit can be managed via app. Friendly staff are on hand during office hours for any help or queries if needed. Access hours are generous and is available all week. Recommended for any storage needs.

Getting to the venue of the storage was easy, packing the items to the storage room was so easy for me. I was glad .
