Incompetent, Dishonest and Utterly Shameless

If I could give zero stars, I would. This has been one of the most frustrating and unprofessional experiences I’ve ever had with any company.

Last year, 2024, I paid a £25 deposit with Lok’nStore Harlow in good faith while planning a house move. The sale fell through, so I didn’t use the storage. Fast forward to this year — the branch was taken over by Shurgard, and when I returned after finally selling my house, I was quoted a price more than double what I was originally offered. That was outrageous enough, but what followed has been a complete farce.

I declined the inflated price and politely requested my £25 deposit back. That was months ago. Since then, I’ve chased the refund in person — I’ve now been to the office more than four separate times over three months — only to be fobbed off every single time with the same lazy excuse: “We’ve requested it from head office.”

Apparently, because their HQ is in Brussels, no one at the actual branch has the power (or will) to take responsibility. What a joke. A multinational company that claims to provide secure storage can’t even process a £25 refund without a game of email tennis across countries?

Let’s be honest: this is not about red tape — this is about wilful negligence and a total disregard for basic customer service. It’s a pathetic way to operate a business. And yes, it’s only £25 — but if this is how they handle small sums and simple queries, imagine what happens when you trust them with your entire household contents?

This is not just incompetence. It’s dishonesty, delay tactics, and corporate cowardice. I would never, ever trust Shurgard with anything again.

Avoid them like the plague. You’ll get better service from a rusty shipping container on the side of the road.

Excellent facility- clean and plenty of trolleys. All lifts working. Excellent customer care from on site staff. Reasonable prices.

Very easy and straightforward

Recommended by a friend, this was our 1st experience of using a Self Storage unit. We needed local, regular access availability at reasonable costs. Callum made us very welcome and put us at ease by supporting very well throughout the registration process. He gave us a tour and a step by step explanation of the process we need to follow. We have found the entire process simple and easy to use, it has lifted some of the stress of moving for sure. Highly recommended.

Easy to setup and great customer service.

Storage solution is good, however let down by slightly clunky security sign up process using the provided link. Took me 4 or 5 attempts before it wanted to work.
Prices appear cheap but have tiers for selection and then added insurance which bumps up price.

Very polite, helpful, efficient staff on reception who made it really easy for me to store my stuff, especially as it was my first experience of using self storage.
